I've been to the Big Dipper dozens of times over the past several years (most recently last night!) It serves its purpose, which to me seems to be ice cream/food spot in the middle of nowhere! I will say that the hot food is just ok. Ive had burgers, hot dogs, fries...none of which i'd say were memorable. The hot food always seems to take quite a while to make. On a 1-5 rating scale, I'd give the hot food a 2 1/2 score, at best. They have cedar crest ice cream by the scoop. Probably 10-15 flavors to choose from at any given time. This is a plus for me....love cedar crest! They also have soft serve ice cream. My kids always get flurries (the Big Dipper version of a DQ blizzard). I've also gotten a root beer float several times. All of these are big pluses for The Big Dipper. There is seating outside and inside, which is convenient. You can also order either from a window outside or from the counter inside. The employees are always friendly. Seems to always be alot of younger folks working, with one or two adults. Inside the establishment they used to have an arcade and a small store with fireworks and camping-type accessories. Now they got rid of the arcade and only sell small wooden signs with silly sayings on them. And...there are an obnoxiously excessive amount of these signs!! I'm sure the wooden signs have a huge profit margin when someone actually buys them, but in several years of frequenting this place, i've never seen anyone buy one. I wish they'd cut back on the wood signs and go back to selling the camp-style stuff. I like this place and I come here often. The ice cream is good and the food is ok. I'd recommend it to anyone spending time in the area. read more

Best ice cream place ever!! So many flavors and toppings to choose from I've never gotten the same flavor twice. Also so many ice cream styles and combos! Good vibes here and this place has made my summer so much better considering there isn't a whole ton of things to do around here besides try every ice cream flavor you can before the weekly specials switch up. LOVE THIS PLACE. But be careful of the portion sizes! A small is HUGE. They have about a ton of flavors of hard scoop ice cream, plus soft serve flavors. They offer dishes, cake cones, waffle cones, and sugar cones. Friendly people, clean place, outdoor seating. Prices are awesome, too. They are very understanding, and will replace ice creams in the case of an accident. (My niece knows from experience.) I can't offer any insight into anything other than ice cream. But I do remember seeing that they had a lot of selection... fries, burgers, chili dogs, Collie flower buds, lemonade, all kinds of stuff. read more

A roadside stand with really nice outdoor seating and six big tables indoor, Big Dipper is the only ice cream shop around - so thank goodness it's a good one! A notch above standard roadside fare, they make a pretty fair double cheeseburger alongside other expected kid-friendly menu items. Ice cream is Cedar Crest, served in big portions in about 20 flavors. Frequented by locals and tourists alike, it's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. The five stars, though, is for the people. Beyond friendly, though they were that and plenty, we had a car break down in the parking lot. The grillman first took advantage of a break in the crowd to come take a look at it with us. When the wrecker took its time, they kept our open for us an extra half hour so we weren't carried off by mosquitoes. Then the guy took the trouble of driving us back into Crivitz, out of his way. AND THEN he found my wife, lost and waiting for us at the wrong garage, to point her to where we were. Good people are out there; they're working at Big Dipper. read more

A truly wholesome dining experience for the entire family. Situated right on the forest's edge on County X near the High Falls Flowage and Tommy Thompson State Park, the Big Dipper's portions are very generous and always freshly made to order. The menu of goodies is huge, and there's even a nice selection of camping supplies, t-shirts, sweatshirts and a variety of swimming and other water sports related gear. Get your classic "diving mask and flippers" here! Not to be missed is the Big Dipper's grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich. This thing is huge...just one oughta take care of even the largest appetite. Get it with a side order of curly fries or one of the 11 other sides...yum! Or, try one of the Big Dipper's tasty cheeseburgers or scrumptious hot dogs with the works. Top it off with a scoop (or two!) of Cedar Crest "Chicago Dark" hand scooped ice cream. It's the best I've ever tasted, period. Chocolate not your thing? They've got another 15 flavors of Cedar Crest Premium Ice Cream, 24 flavors of soft serve and 20 plus toppings to boot...Whew! The Dipper's grounds can be best described as clean, well manicured and park like. The parking is ample as is the availability of outdoor (shaded) seating with plenty of space to mingle. Indoor seating is provided as well. There are two ordering stations, one outside, one inside. The staff is courteous, attentive and friendly. And now for an added plus. The rest rooms at the Big Dipper are immaculate. It's very plain to see that the proprietors of the Big Dipper have gone the extra mile to make your experience there an enjoyable sensory experience throughout. Don't pass this one by!
