I will say that the hot food is just ok. Ive had burgers, hot dogs, fries...none of which i'd say were memorable. The hot food always seems to take quite a while to make. On a 1-5 rating scale, I'd give the hot food a 2 1/2 score, at best. They have cedar crest ice cream by the scoop. Probably 10-15 flavors to choose from at any given time. This is a plus for me....love cedar crest! They also have soft serve ice cream. My kids always get flurries (the Big Dipper version of a DQ blizzard). I've also gotten a root beer float several times. All of these are big pluses for The Big Dipper. There is seating outside and inside, which is convenient. You can also order either from a window outside or from the counter inside. The employees are always friendly. Seems to always be alot of younger folks working, with one or two adults. Inside the establishment they used to have an arcade and a small store with fireworks and camping-type accessories. Now they got rid of the arcade and only sell small wooden signs with silly sayings on them. And...there are an obnoxiously excessive amount of these signs!! I'm sure the wooden signs have a huge profit margin when someone actually buys them, but in several years of frequenting this place, i've never seen anyone buy one. I wish they'd cut back on the wood signs and go back to selling the camp-style stuff. I like this place and I come here often. The ice cream is good and the food is ok. I'd recommend it to anyone spending time in the area.

That is the one caution is to be prepared for eating ice cream and smelling the odors of a farm. The ice cream is very good, and there was plenty of seating space for everyone who wanted to sit and eat including some hammock-like seats. After eating the food, you can look at the displays, and climb on the tractors. It is a unique chance to have dessert and a show.

They also had a mechanical bull you could ride, which was super fun. The location was awesome too because they had a mini silo that they made into a stairwell that led into the top of the ice cream barn. Upon entering the ice cream barn it was so cute. They had such nice details throughout and even the bathrooms were painted like a cow. They had a large selection of cedar crest ice cream as well as homemade popcorn. Prices were fantastic! Portions were large. Probably why there was such a big crowd when we got there. I will definitely be back when visiting to try more flavors. Loved the entire experience and wished we had an Ice Cream Barn like this around where I live!!

This is someplace special! It's certainly worth going out of the way to visit, although it happens…read moreto be right in my route to and from the relatives. Everything is made fresh, right here, except for a few Cedar Crest flavors if you happen to be so inclined. There's no indoor seating, but plenty on the porch. Their ice creams and gelatos are openly on display in a glass display case so you can choose from a wide variety of flavors placed in a cup or waffle cone. Standard flavors are available in good old soft-serve. Over 21? You might opt for the addition of adult flavoring (think of the days when you'd spike the punch). Vodka in lemonade seems to be a popular choice, for some reason. The store is located on Neva Road, which is US 45 on Antigo's north side. The sign is a little small, so you have to be watching for it. It's kitty-corner from that frozen custard place that shall remain nameless since I'd rather have Twisted Ice Cream. Try them a couple of times, and you will, too.

This little family owned place is meticulous on the details and their presentation. The "Some More?" Tasted like real toasted marshmallow with actual crunchy pieces of graham. It's only open May thru Labor Day but we will be back for sure. Like another reviewer, they gave me a free treat for my pup... no charge

First of all... when the waitress tells you that the portions are huge... believe her! I ordered…read morethe pancakes with blueberries (so many blueberries) and they were so delicious and massive! It was quiet and slow but this is probably off season for them.

Sunday breakfast. The parking lot was full (with every vacationer going home from their weekend in…read morethe north woods). There was a sign on the door that said something like "we are understaffed, please be nice to those who did show up for work". We were weary that it might be a while, or it may not be worth the wait. Well, it was anything but a long wait. Maybe 5 mins, and we were at our seats. And as far as lack of staff, I sure didn't see it! Looked like (at least in my opinion) there were plenty of staff. I did find it a little weird that our waitress asked us to wait until she got our drinks before we could hit the breakfast buffet. The buffet was $13 (I think) and it was well stocked and the food was good. Maybe 6 main items, but all were tasty... especially the scrambled eggs and bacon. (If you are like me, who likes his bacon a little underdone (not crispy) you will love the bacon.) The buffet itself is a bit of a bottle neck because they have pancakes, fruit and some desserts on an added table on the end, which makes an "L" in the buffet line. This creates a back up at times at the buffet, but it's only a bit of a hold up. One of the people in my group ordered off the menu and she said her French Toast was very good. The food arrived pretty quickly, which was nice because she had food timely enough that she got to eat, and finish eating, with the rest of us. Would recommend this restaurant for its buffet and for those who want to order of the menu. I wouldn't let the busy parking lot keep you away. Things moved pretty quickly.

The Dairy Barn - X-Small Frozen Custard, Pistachio

We wanted a quick snack while driving from the UP to Green Bay and came upon The Dairy Barn. As we…read moredrove in, we thought the place was inside of the nearby gas station, but we quickly found that it was a separate building with quite a number of cars and customers surrounding it. There was a nearby setup of picnic tables and all seats were taken, with people eating burgers, custard, and other treats. To order, there's a choice of either a drive through, or you can queue up at one of the windows in front. We just wanted a small snack and ordered two items. Service is quite quick; everything only took a couple of minutes to come out. Extra Small Pistachio Frozen Custard ($2) - This was the weekly special and we got the very last dregs in the frozen custard machine. We saw the employee using a spatula on the top of the machine to push through the rest of the custard. As such, we're not sure if the custard was the freshest and best churned or not. The sweetness of the custard, mint green in color, first comes through, followed by a bit of artificial pistachio flavoring. The strange thing is that we had pistachio frozen custard from another place the previous day and this tasted exactly the same. I wonder if everyone just uses the same commercial pistachio custard base and churns it differently? This particular one is quite smooth and creamy, but also a bit on the softer side and less dense than other frozen custard I've had. I can't complain when this is only $2 though. (4/5) Fried Cheese Curds ($4) - I read about the curds here on social media and I have to agree that these are quite good. The batter on the exterior is pretty thick and fried to a fantastic crisp. The interior is stretchy, milky, squeaky as they stick to the teeth and have a more firm chew. The exterior batter has quite a bit of salt added after it comes out of the fryer, making this a treat that almost begs for custard or some other sweet beverage/treat on the side. (4/5) I'm not sure there is anything that they actually make in house, but hey, the prices are so cheap and they execute everything well enough that it makes me not care. I wouldn't make The Dairy Barn a destination for food or anything, but it's a solid place to visit while you're on the road. Note that they change the special custard flavor every week starting on Wednesday until they run out, so if you insist on the special flavor don't wait until Tuesday! Bathrooms - One single unisex room located on the right side of the exterior of the building. Overall rating of the food this visit: 4/5
