Would not take my bike anywhere else to be fixed. Got an E-bike for Christmas from The Bike Link and just took it in (5 months later) to learn about the E-bike system. Sam spent the better part of two hours setting the bike up and explaining how everything works. He adjusted the pedals, seat, and handle bars. He had me ride it outside so he could see if everything was in working order. Also sold me a bike pump that is much easier to use than my old one. The entire staff is awesome! read more

When passing by this shop on my e-scooter I noticed that they sell e-bikes, these e-bike contained the exact same hydraulic brakes as my e-scooter. I decided to walk into the shop to see if they could bleed and replace the oil in my brakes, before I even stepped foot in the shop the older gentleman's head turned sideways and gave me a funny look, he asked me what I was bringing the scooter into the shop for and I replied I would just like to have my hydraulic brakes bled and oil to be replaced which they offer as a service. He immediately told me no and when I asked why he said the batteries are too complex on the e-scooters, I simply and not rudely replied that there was no need to go anywhere near the battery to do the brakes as I've seen in videos and that I would have attempted to do it myself if I had the proper tools to perform with, he then told me that if I knew so much about it I should then do my brakes myself, which I found to be very unprofessional, at the very least he did not even attempt to look at the brake system and rudely kept saying they would not do the brakes for my scooter, I understand that this is a bike shop at the end of the day but to not even attempt to look at them or even offer a kit to do the job myself was pretty ridiculous I will not be stepping foot in here again read more

Just got back from The Bicycle link. Never been there before. As I am typing this, the time is 3:30 pm, Saturday, July 3rd. I left the shop 20 minutes ago (meaning I arrived there at 3:10 pm).. The web site says they close at 4:00 pm. The "hours" sign in the door said they close at 4:00 pm. The lights were on, the door was open, and two employees were in the store with no customers (one in front of the counter and one behind the counter). But they had turned the closed sign on the door. I stepped in and asked if they were open. "No we're closing early for the 4th of July weekend". I said "well, I wanted to buy a new bike". Bottom line: They lost a sale, and I don't have a new bike. read more

I went here for a tune-up from a friend's recommendation. I had a bad experience from a chain bike shop where they laughed at me (obvi I know little about bicycles) and tried to sell me stuff and overprice service. When I went to the Bicycle Link, I told them I needed a tuneup for my road bike which they did a great job and that I needed some stuff, without mentioning the other bike shop asked me to get it. I was told I didn't need any of those stuff as my bike's gears are still in good shape. I was surprised of their honesty and that they did not take advantage of the situation for sales. It's so rare to find a shop with such integrity. I went and took my mountain bike for a tuneup and went a third time to buy a bike rack. I was shown different types of bike racks. I bought the cheapest one, which the guy said was just perfect for me since I won't be taking it on and off. He was more than happy to put it on my car as well and showed me how to put it on and off in case I have to. Again, we all had an experience at other shops where they force the expensive ones on you, but not on this place. They give you just what you need which shows they truly care for their customers. Everytime I come in, I am always greeted and treated the same as everyone else - with exceptional service. I never hesitated to ask my newbie questions, ask for suggestions or help. They were always very helpful and knowledgeable. I never felt intimidated, because they were respectful. They care more about the relationship they have with their clients more than sales. Had a fantastic experience at The Bicycle Link! Showed up today (the Sunday before Memorial Day) with my two kids to get us all outfitted with new bikes. Ended up with a Trek for my son, a Specialized bike for my daughter, and the prettiest Electra cruiser for me! Jim Quinn and his team took excellent care of us and we are all so happy with our bikes. Dropped my bike off for a few simple repairs and when I picked it up my very clean red handlebar tape was *covered* in black grease. Completely filthy. When I asked them what was up, they miserably brought it back downstairs to clean it off and said accusatorily, "Try not using so much chain grease." Total dickhead. As if him getting grease on my handlebars was somehow my fault. And even if I soaked that chain in full tub of grease, maybe give me my bike back clean and tell me what I did wrong in a helpful way. If you need repairs, I suggest you go across the street to the Schwinn dealer/shop. The guy there did a bunch of stuff on my bike while I waited, was pleasant and conversational, and only asked for "future business" as payment. I still gave the guy $20 because I wanted him to know that kindness goes a long way. read more

If it was an option,I would give no stars.I brought my friend's daughter's bike there to fix the chain and to install a kick stand.My friend had removed a link from the chain to fix a flat tire in the rare wheel,but then decided to have The Bicycle Link reattach the chain.They installed a quick link,which had all the manufacturer's markings on it,and installed it onto the barely used chain on the bike.They charged for a new chain.They charged $67.00 for a quick link and a kick stand.They are deceptive in their dialog.They are like the mechanic one would never bring their car for repairs again after clearly being ripped off and fed a bunch of lines when confronting the owner.Look elsewhere for any bicycle needs! As there are honest mechanics out there,so are there honest bike shops. read more

Unfortunaltely, I bought my bike here so I thought this would be the best place to take it when I need service, I was wrong.. I was happy with the purchase of my bike. I have a Trek fitness bike and love it. But, after I bought it I brought it back them to have a kickstand put on. I had to leave it there for several days to have them put it on which I understand they get busy so wasn't too upset about the wait, but when I got it home and tried it out, the stand was way too short for my bike. It would just fall over, I assume they put a kid's one on by mistake. So, I brought it back and they told me I didn't buy the kick stand from them! Can you believe that!? They said they don't sell small kick stands so I couldn't have got it from them. I had to argue with them and finally get the owner and show him my receipt so they finally fixed it. For some reason I went back to them for my tune up. Took a little over a week and cost around $80. When I picked up my bike it was still all dirty and my tire was completely flat. This time they gave me money back though :) that's the only reason I gave 2 stars Now, I have learned my lesson - Never again!! read more

I purchased many bikes from this shop until I realized they don't take care of their customers and provide terrible tune-ups. There was only one person on the floor who provided any type of customer service but the main goal was ringing you up at the cashier. As far as tune-ups go, many problems and once they put two different size tires hoping it would go unnoticed. My sister recently went for her annual tune up in June and as of August, front breaks are broken, gears don't shift properly all for $120 and 7 day waiting period. Bottom line, if you see this shop keep going as there are plenty of other decent bikes shops around. read more

The 'Link never ceases to amaze me, but I don't mean in a good way. I think I have been spoiled by the Landry's and Wheelworks of the Metro West region. The Bicycle link is good if you need a tube or want to purchase a mountain bike or hybrid. If you want to purchase anything like a road bike or a cruiser all bets are off. They do offer some custom bikes like IF and Merlin, but I'm not sure they use any of the sophisticated fitting methods that other shops use - but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. They generally do not have a large selection of high end parts and take a long time with repairs. I do give them credit for their community involvement of scheduling weekly training races and rides. read more

I found that the older man with grey hair was real rude to me when i asked about a replacement part with a response, "good luck". I haven't stepped foot in there since. read more

I actually stopped into the Bicycle Link for the first time in about 20 years the other day and I must say I quite like this little shop. As far as shops on the South Shore go it's quite nice. Two floors packed tight with a variety of bicycles and accessories. They carry brands such as Cannondale, Trek, Specialized and Felt in both road and mountain. I think what people who are coming from the city should realize is that the demographics of the area don't really support an elite style shop like Wheelworks with fit rooms and high dollar accessories everywhere. Most people in the area are looking for $300 rec bikes so the fact they carry as much high end stuff as they do ($3,000+ bikes) is impressive. They don't sell many but they make an effort. I met the owner who's a white haired middle aged fellow (Jim) who's been racing bicycles since he opened the shop back in the 1980's and still commutes to work sometimes. He'd be the fellow to talk to and he knows his stuff-he's also friendly. If you're in the area I'd stop in and see if they have what you need. Probably one of the best of the South Shore shops. That said, they're not a city shop. No, some of the folks working there aren't part time pro racers or know who Jens Voigt is, and no there's no Andy Pruitt trained fit specialist, but that's OK. read more

I have been to this shop a few times over 10 years. I have been generally happy but ever time I have had survive done on my bike I feel the tech is very rude. I bring my bike in for an issue and when I picked it up the issue wasn't fixed. So I bring the bike back in the next day and the tech tells me it was fixed before it left. This wasn't the case I seen and felt the issue before leaving the parking lot. I didn't bring it back in due to the younger man who gave me my bike back not being the person I normally see or who I explained the issue to. So next day I bring it back in review with tech and he is nothing but rude and after I tell him I don't feel like he actually did anything that I asked he got upset and would not work on my bike. Now thats fine I drive from boston to Weymouth just to give a small shop my business that I have been working with for years. I honestly cant recommend them anymore due to this. No matter how friendly the sales staff might be the tech ruined it. I might not have been the customer buying a new bike every year but I never had an issue paying for work to actually be done. To be clear they did give me a full refund but to just brush a customer away its pretty disheartening. read more

The link is a great local bike shop, I've purchased two bikes from there and they always do their best to keep them up and running, despite my best efforts thrashing around on the trails. Their service department helped my wife out immensely. We bought an entry level hybrid trek and after riding it a bunch she noticed the chain kept jamming/falling off. We brought it in for a tune up (At the time it was free because we purchased the bike there) and they gave her some basic riding tips. She hasn't had an issue since. The point is, I'll continue buying from the link. I am in the market for a new stumpy, and I'll be going here to test ride and buy when Iam ready. When I have kids, I'll buy their bikes from here as well. Like any great lbs, they support you after the purchase and they are always open to random questions, comments and have no problem letting you know the best local trails to ride. I called about a bike fitting and spoke with Sam. He said that they are just doing basic fittings now and I could come in for that any time. Sam set my bike up on the trainer right away, had me ride it clipped in to the pedals, and made a simple seat height adjustment to improve my position. Also lubed the seat tube while he was at it. He also pointed out where I could switch out the handlebar stem to improve the position further. I didn't do that today but likely will when I come in for my next tune up. He also gave me some tips on setting the tension on my bike trainer at home. Prompt and helpful service. And, best of all, it was all free! read more

I go to the Bicycle Link for whatever I need in terms of biking. I've bought both my mountain and road bike there, we bought my wife's mountain bike there. When I was in this process, they asked me how and where I ride, they listened to what I was saying and got me pointed in the right direction to get me what I needed for bikes. I bring our bikes there for service, the turn around time is a few days, but it's usually been ready before they say it will be and they contact me to let me know when bikes are ready for pick up. Earlier this summer, I had a race on Sunday and on Saturday afternoon I had an issue with my road bike that I was going to be riding for the race, I brought it in without an appointment and they got the problem fixed that afternoon while I waited. It was an ongoing problem, and they fixed it no charge! I had a successful ride the next day, thanks to them. The people there are friendly and helpful in my experience, but I also go in with a good attitude towards them, give them respect and I get the same in return. In this day and age, I don't always get great customer service with a lot of companies so always appreciate it when I do, and I appreciate the service I get at the Bicycle Link! Thanks!!! read more

Terrific service at the Bicycle Link! I called looking for a car rack that was out of stock everywhere. The Bicycle Link had it in stock and we made an easy and COVID-19 safe transaction online. When we arrived for a curbside pick-up, Sam offered to install it on our car. Wearing masks, Sam installed it rapidly, instructed us for future use and safety, and then gave backroad directions to our destination. They recently did a fair amount of work on my husbands bike to get it ready for the season and they had it done in a few days, and I was able to pick it up a day earlier than they had promised it. Serious rip off. Unfriendly staff. 100$ to put on a bottom bracket headset and setup a front break. Charging more than a car mechanic. Not the first time I've been thrown off by this shop. I figured my 2grand in bike parts should be put on by a small business hoping they would want to take care of me and my parts. If you want some work done go on Craigslist find a mechanic that will actually appreciate the business. Buy parts on eBay shimano actually sells parts on there for under cost compared to the 900% mark up at the bicycle link. Go to cohasset cycles on 3a. My bike broke down (I would suddenly lose and then regain traction while pedaling) on a chilly night as I was commuting home along Washington Street. With 10 minutes left before they closed, I decided to pop into The Bicycle Link to see if they could help me with a quick fix or at least be able tell me what was wrong. The guys in there were very nice and quick to take a look at my bike. They were able to tell me exactly what the problem was and how much it would cost to get it fixed there. The turnaround was fast! I picked up my bike a day later and it rode like a dream! And when is the last time you got an estimate and the final cost turned out to be less?! Seems like a pretty good sign of honesty and quality to me. I will be back for all my bike needs! read more

I purchased my first bike here in 2000. GT rebound mountain bike. $600 and change was a lot of $ for me at the time. Loved it. Never brought it in for service. Then I purchased two Trek bikes years later for my boys. Bikes didn't hold up that well but they enjoyed them. Did not service these bikes here. Way overpriced for my taste. Brings me now to my son who is 15. June 29, 2018 my son purchased a Trek Mountain bike with his own money from his part time job he saved from. Price was over $500. His friend purchased the same bike two weeks before. He used it less than two weeks and the back brakes loosened up drastically. Brought his bike and his friends in for the 30 day tune up. Dropped them off at service and the boys mentioned the back brake problem on both their bikes. Came back 4 days later to pick up bikes, brakes still not adjusted or fixed. Boys pointed this out immediately and service technician said they work and that's the type of brakes they are. We were shown the door. Owner was not there. Emailed owner explained to him my concerns regarding the brake problem. He told me to bring it back in next week. I couldn't bring it in that week due to work. Received an email from the owner stating that he consulted with service technician and the brakes are working properly, and these type of brakes can't be adjusted much and maybe he is looking for a different feel of brakes. Shown the door again basically. Emailed him back showing him two pictures of my sons bike which he fixed. He went on YouTube broke out his tools and adjusted both his and his friends brakes. Never fixed brakes before, it took him less than an hour start to finish. This is customer service at its worst!!! Nice as pie when you are buying$$$ I guess when you get established like Mr.Quinn, you can lose sight of how you got there in the first place! Customer service and loyalty should always come first! I had a very positive experience with The Bicycle Link recently. I'd been agonizing over buying a new bike for a long time, and finally tentatively decided on a hybrid. I went to both EMS and REI and got TERRIBLE service. When I walked into the Bicycle Link, I was immediately greeted, and asked what I was in the market for. After describing my situation, the guy agreed that a hybrid was the perfect choice for me. I tried out 2 or three, and finally decided on a Trek Neko S. I picked it up later that afternoon, and i haven't been able to tear myself away from it ever since. I'm totally in love with the bike. I'd definitely recommend this shop as far as PURCHASING a bike goes- the staff member I dealt with was super friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I can't comment on the service. With the purchase of a bike came a free tune-up in 60 days, so I'll check back in after that. But for now, I'm totally impressed. read more

On my most recent trip I knew that my bike was going to need a significant tune-up and was considering just purchasing a new bike. The guys told me they could make my bike like new, and the did! Brett helped me out and provided a lot of knowledge and guidance on what would be best for me. He let me test ride a couple bikes and was very patient and informative. Race day came and went and the bike portion was easily my favorite part! After training all summer long with my Cannondale I became quickly obsessed with biking. I came in with my bike for the seat to be tightened into place, and for a new tube in the rear. (Tube costs an extra $6 for tube, $7 for labor) They told me it would be about $70. I was desperate, because of nice weather, so i went with it. They did the seat just fine. The "new" tube popped on the way home. After looking at it, iwe found out they only PATCHED my old tube. Also, my rear brake simply do not work. They were fine when i brought it in The auto supply store down the street has given me better and cheaper service. I reccommend them. The bike was ordered and came in and ready for delivery within the time table given. Upon picking the bike bike up, It needed a few adjustments, told it would be two days! Really? Two days for a few adjustments..... I came in prior to the second day to check on it & pay the balance and was given an attitude that I came in prior to the day dictated. Hey folks, it's a bike and 4 adjustments were needed.,.oh one adjustment was the gears that should have been ready at time of delivery...... I grew up in this area and (regrettably) bought bikes and had service done at this shop many times. Retail: They stock an average selection of bikes. Nothing special, but a reasonable selection. You can expect there to be some teenagers working the floor that will point you towards your price range or type of bike. In my experience, they usually don't know much about the bikes beyond what you would read on the manufacturers flyer. When I was buying my first road bike I was looking at a Specialized Allez that was discounted because it was several years old (I now know it was probably on sale since it was so large). I was around 14 at the time and knew nothing about bikes. The girl working told me, "If it feels good, it fits!" It is an XL (58) size frame and was WAY too big for me at the time. I'm now 20 and the bike is still too big for me (I'm 6 ft tall). Selling a 14 year old way too big of a bike just to make the sale.... dispicable. It led to me having back issues while riding when I was younger. Service: I had many small repairs done there that (I now know) were way overpriced and sloppily done. The last straw was when I had an older mountain bike with a persistent chain skipping issue. I later found out it was due to stretched rear drop-ins, but I had no idea initially what the problem was. I explained to them that I had replaced the cassette and chain, tuned the derrailleaur to perfection, and it still skipped. They said they would figure it out. I came to pick it up and was handed at $130 bill. They replaced all the shifting cables and housing, replaced chain rings that were not fully worn yet, and did a few other unneccessary "repairs". The chain still skipped. I brought it back asking for my money back and they refused and treated me like I was trying to rip THEM off. It got ugly. They accepted no responsibilty and only offered to try replacing more parts for additional $$$. To finish the story, I then took the bike to Rockland Cycles and Dave immediately found the problem, and determined it was not fixable, but still gave me a temporary fix, totally free! This is a bad shop that I have regrettably given thousands of dollars. I was eventually told by a friend to check out Rockland Cycles and I have never looked back. 100% worth the drive to Rockland to have a quality, friendly, and honest experience. tldr; Overpriced, dishonest, worst shop I've ever dealt with. read more

I have been going to this place off and on for the past 10 years. I've had a few experiences where my bike was not ready when they said it would be. For the past several years I've been tossing around the idea of buying a new bike. My birthday was coming up and I was going up to Stowe, VT to ride bikes, so I thought I'd treat myself to my first 29er for the trip. I went in on a Sunday and they didn't have the bike I was looking for, but I was told that it was in an order that should come in on Monday (the next day). The guy went in the back and double checked that. He said it would come in on Monday and it would be assembled on Monday or Tuesday and they would call me to come get it. I reiterated to the guy that I was going out of town on Thursday, so as long as I had it before then. He assured me that would not be a problem. I was pretty excited about it and even paid for it up front so all I'd have to do is pick it up on my way home from work. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday went by without a phone call, so I stopped by Wednesday evening on my way home and dealt with an older guy that informed me that the bike I bought was not in the order that came in on Monday. I was disappointed that I had to stop in the day before I left town to find out that they didn't have it and were not going to get it. I had to ask for a refund. That left a real bad taste in my mouth. Overall, the people there seem pretty knowledgeable. Not the friendliest of service though. I might stop in to pick up some small item of need, like a tube or something. Aside from that, REI's bike department in Hingham has earned my business with their expertise and friendly service. Never thought I'd choose REI over a smaller local shop, but it's been a great experience so far. Really this place deserves one or two stars based on my experience. I'm in a good mood though, so I'm gonna bump it up to three stars on the merit of their rap video/commercial at the Patriot Cinemas. read more

Unimaginably arrogant and rude. I had pretty standard work (for a competent bike shop work) done and I had to bring my bike back multiple times for them to get it right. Their incompetence caused me to be thrown from my bike and rather than apologize these people act like I had done something wrong. JERKS! Do not give them your money. Go to Dave at Rockland Cycle - he is a highly competent guy - this is where the serious cyclists go and his prices are reasonable. Do yourself a favor and read the other "one star" reviews too.
