I wanted a venue that had its' own parking, its' own private space, beautiful outdoor area and a place that did not require that much decorating. I researched over 25 venues and yes I have a list and reviewed each one of them. I found my place here at the Betty H Reckas Cultural Center. It really had everything I needed and was looking for in a venue. PARKING: Tons and FREE and PRIVATE. Yes. It fits over 200 cars and if you still need more - tons of street parking. LOCATION: This is located at a church - no you don't use the church AT ALL. You use the outdoor area in front of the church for the ceremony. It's spacious and the outside area can fit over 300 people. I KNOW! I had a flash mob here and it fit everyone! COCKTAIL AREA: There is a indoor and outdoor area for cocktail. The bar is inside and they also provide standing tables for guests to put their food and drinks. The cocktail area is spacious for a photobooth, dessert bar, appetizer bar and cute decor. There is a giant table in the center for your escort cards. The bar is huge too. RECEPTION HALL: Inside the reception, the place is big. It comes with a dance floor and a fireplace. It's huge! It could fit over 300 people as well. I had 186 and there was tons of space. The lighting is great and the sun shines in along with its own lighting. It didn't need any decor. Other than on the fireplace because it'd look too bare. BRIDAL ROOM: Great bridal room. Clean and has cute decor and great for photos! SERVICE: AMAZING service. The banquet manager Loren (Lauren?) was great. He was attentive and really put a LOT into making sure I had food and drinks! GREAT manager! CATERING: For catering, I used TGIS. It comes with the place. In order to have this place, you have to use them, which they were great. See my review for them. TGIS Catering. LIGHTING: You NEED uplighting. TGIS catering provides that for you. PRICE: Based off TGIS Catering, but their packages are excellent. OVERALL: I loved my wedding! It went smoothly and everyone loved the venue! My dad told me it was such a smart venue to choose!

I had my December ceremony and reception at Betty Reckas Cultural Center, and I would definitely do it again! Similar to the previous reviewer, I'll break it down. Price/Value- 5 stars Very worth it. They had the best drink package - $5.95/pp for unlimited mixers + soft drinks, and we were able to provide our own alcohol, so we were not only able to buy the alcohol we actually like but also cut down alcohol costs by the thousands (compared to venues that charge something like $15/pp per hour for an open bar). We didn't need to spend much money on decorations since the venue was so pretty. We didn't get uplighting, and it was fine. Convenience- 5 stars Free, plentiful parking. There's a great outdoor space for photos pre-ceremony. There are also lots of beautiful locations near this venue to take formal shots: Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden ($200/hr), Rancho Los Alamitos, Cerritos Sculpture Garden (~20min away). The bridal room was small but clean/nice. Food/Drinks- 5 stars TGIS was great! The passed appetizers during were amazing, as was the dinner. Portions were huge, and everyone loved the food. Service- 5 stars Jeremy was SO amazing and very responsive to the massive number of emails I sent prior to the wedding. The day of, the service was amazing. The banquet manager was very attentive and made sure that we ate! Flexibility- 3.5 stars My only annoyance was the Christmas tree they wouldn't to take down. Initially I was okay with it, but now I'm looking back at my photos and it's kind of an eye sore. If you get married there near December, you may want to keep this in mind. This was an issue with the venue itself and not TGIS. However, they did let us use sparklers, so that's a plus. TGIS itself was super flexible and allowed us to make last minute changes to the menu.

Also, the baker for the cake that TGIS coordinates with (Rossmoor Pastries) did a fantastic job with our cake.

The decor is in the style of a typical California country club, in a rancho style with plaid carpets. Food was standard for banquet style events - salad, chicken with vegetables and mashed potatoes and cake for dessert. Wouldn't say it was amazing but solid. Ample parking behind a gate and private, a large shrub covers the sides of the lot.

We got married at Old Ranch Country Club 7 years ago, and it was truly an unforgettable experience . From start to finish, everything turned out beautifully. Planning & Communication: The planner we worked with was excellent -- super responsive, organized, and easy to communicate with . Planning a wedding with around 300 guests can be overwhelming, but they handled everything so smoothly and professionally, which made the entire process feel much less stressful. Scenery & Setting: The gazebo overlooking the golf course was absolutely stunning . It made for the most romantic ceremony setting and incredible photos. The lush greenery and open views gave such an elegant, serene vibe -- we were in love the moment we saw it . Food & Reception: The food was delicious -- and feeding 300 people is no small task! Everything was well-prepared, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Even years later, guests still tell us how much they loved the food . Pricing: This is definitely a higher-end venue, but you get what you pay for. Wedding packages typically range from around $10,000 and up, with per-person costs often around $200+, depending on guest count, menu, and upgrades. For a large wedding like ours, it felt worth it for the service, space, and overall experience . What We Loved Most: * The gazebo ceremony site overlooking the golf course * Seamless coordination for a large 300-guest wedding * Fantastic communication from the planning team * Amazing food that guests still remember * So many gorgeous photo spots Final Thoughts: If you're looking for a venue that can beautifully handle a large wedding, offers breathtaking scenery, and delivers on food and service, Old Ranch Country Club is an amazing choice. Our wedding day turned out better than we imagined, and we'll always treasure the memories made here .

Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is a peaceful hidden gem tucked inside California State…read moreUniversity, Long Beach. I walked into a space that is smaller than some larger Japanese gardens, but the layout feels carefully planned with winding paths, traditional landscaping, a koi pond, waterfalls, bridges, and quiet corners throughout. It is the type of place where taking your time matters more than trying to see everything quickly, and the smaller size actually makes the experience feel more intimate. The garden feels like a world apart from the campus surrounding it, and the transition from the university grounds to the garden is immediate and effective. The koi pond is easily the centerpiece of the garden and one of the most enjoyable parts to spend time around. I found myself lingering by the water, watching the fish move through the pond as the sunlight filtered through the trees. The fish are large and active, and the surrounding greenery, stone features, and water elements create a very relaxing atmosphere. The garden does a good job balancing natural scenery with traditional Japanese design, with each section offering a slightly different view and feeling as I walked through. The bridges and stone lanterns add to the sense of place, and the sound of the waterfalls creates a calming background that stays with you as you move through the space. What I liked most about this garden is how calm it feels despite being located on a college campus. It feels separated from the surrounding area once you enter, making it a nice place for a quiet walk, photography, or just taking a break. The landscaping is well maintained, and the entire space has a slower pace that encourages you to actually stop and appreciate the details rather than rushing through. The garden's design rewards a slow approach, with each turn in the path offering a slightly different perspective on the pond, the plants, and the stonework. The visit is fairly quick since the garden is compact, but it works well as a relaxing stop rather than a destination that takes up an entire afternoon. Reservations are required, so it is worth checking availability before going. Admission is free, although parking is an extra cost and can be the main inconvenience, especially during busy campus hours. The garden's location on campus makes it accessible, but the parking situation can require a bit of patience. Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is a beautiful spot if you are looking for a peaceful escape rather than a large attraction. The koi pond, thoughtful design, and quiet atmosphere make it a place worth visiting, especially on a nice day when you can take your time walking through the garden. It offers a brief but meaningful pause from the surrounding city and campus life, and the care that has gone into maintaining the space is evident in every corner.
