I got a 10 oz Lobster Roll, and corn chowder, on the 4th of July, service was fast and the food was served correctly. The place is as you expect- it is a chain- so it is open and bright. It is a family friendly casual place. The lobster roll was good, plentiful, and didn't have an over abundance of mayo, which was good. It was all claw meat, no tail, but that is to be expected. This restaurant is located in the Tuscan village. It has seafood, burgers, ice cream. You go up to order at the counter and eat at picnic tables inside. , the service was good. They were fast and the food is sooo good! We ordered the fisherman's platter and a cheese burger. The fisherman's platter is huge, and the fries are seasoned with garlic. The burger was really good. I had lettuce, pickles and onion. I upgraded to onion rings and oh they are good! The fisherman's platter is $35 and my hamburger was $17 with the upgraded onion rings. Weak 3, maybe a 2.5. I really wanted to enjoy The Beach Plum, but there was little to enjoy. The oil is obviously not changed frequently enough. While no one is close to the Ipswich Clam Box in this and other regards, a little effort would make a big difference. The clams were plentiful, but absolutely tasteless, but for the grease. The batter is tasteless and the clams themselves had little to no flavor- even the plump ones. This means the clams are old, nippy fresh. I had a fry or two and tossed the rest. Again - no flavor but old oil. The coleslaw was an 8 out of 10. I'll try Kelly's down the street next. I tried The Beach Plum near Hampton and a few years ago, had the same experience and never went back. read more

Had the fried whole clam basket and it was nice that it came with fries (didn't see them mentioned on the menu). My wife had the fish and chips dinner (included a roll and Cole slaw). My clams were just OK, good that they weren't greasy but didn't seem to have much taste, the tartar sauce was pretty good though. My wife's fried fish was pretty good, she got the onion rings too which were ok but kind of plain. We got coffee which wasn't very hot and seemed like they added sugar even though we wanted it black, also they forgot to come around for refills so we had to go back up to the counter for more. Overall, their TV commercials make it seem much better than it actually was, it was OK but probably not going back. read more

Wow.... This place has some serious problems in the kitchen, and with their very poorly trained management. I ordered clam chowder and a foot long hot dog with fries. First of all I ordered the hot dog with grilled onions. Meredith took my order on the phone and repeated my order and repeated grilled onions. Although the receipt just says onions. Not sure if Meredith forgot to key into register or if she didn't relay the info to the kitchen, or if the kitchen ignored her but either way I got raw onions not cooked. The hot dog had one grille mark on it, and it was RAW and COLD.....totally uncooked. I don't even know where to start with the French fries. Now usually a seafood establishment would have great fries. Lets face it...they should sell a lot of them. These had some kind of coating on them, tasted like freezer burn and were cold.....It's a scary thought that these are what they serve with their seafood. The clam chowder was a mix of haddock and clam chowder. I know this because I have tried their Haddock chowder and its minced fish and I didn't care for it. This clam chowder definitely had the minced haddock in it. Clams are not soft and mushy. And the chowder was barely warm. I called and asked to speak to the manager. I was on hold quite a while which was surprising because when I went to pick up the food there was barely anyone in there. I asked her name and she said Christina. She never said she was sorry and didn't seem to know what to do with the problem. I asked her if she was the manager and she would not answer me. She said she could make another for me to pick up. Well I had already wasted my lunch time getting the food and talking to her so she said she would issue a gift card and leave at the front counter. Horrible, horrible experience......What a dirty trick giving someone fish and clam chowder instead of all clam chowder which cost them more. I have had their clam chowder one other time and what I got today was NOT clam chowder. I've also tried their haddock chowder and it's a bowl of mush. Way, way too much money for crappy food. Honestly, if they can't even handle how to cook a hot dog what does that say for the rest of their food?....Never again. And change those really gross french fries. Bob L the owner on here should be more apologetic and address negative experiences instead of promoting his 78 flavors of ice cream. His comment on Mr T's review was strange......"Mr. T, we are sorry that we disappointed you. We hope you spoke to a manager while you were there so we could fix anything for you. Typically people are very happy with our food". Really??? The manager I spoke to Christina had no idea what to do and never said she was sorry. It would have been a waste of time to make a scene and get nowhere. Bob L stats that typically people are very happy??? 2 and a half stars doesn't say that at all. We've been dining at Beach Plum in Salem for years, and we always look forward to finishing our meal with their soft serve ice cream. However, for the past two years, the machine has been continuously broken. Every single time we've gone, it's out of service--and at this point, it's just absurd. How does a restaurant let something so simple go unfixed for this long? The food is still pretty good, and the staff is friendly, but this ongoing issue is frustrating. It's hard to enjoy the meal fully when you know you're going to be disappointed by something that should be easy to fix. We really hope they address this soon, because it's ridiculous that it's been allowed to go on for so long. read more

I went here to grab take out with my family for Mother's Day. We arrived just after 11:30 and it was already slammed! I can't say that I was surprised. I didn't have to wait since I placed my order via phone. Things ordered: Two 8 ounce lobster rolls One haddock sandwich One bowl of clam chowder One bowl of haddock chowder Kids hot dog and a kids Mac n cheese The lobster roll, while plentiful, lacked flavor. It had virtually no mayonnaise, no celery (not all rolls have celery), NOTHING. It was just cold lobster meat scooped into a griddled roll. There are WAY better places to get a lobster roll. The haddock sandwich I didn't sample but my brother just said it was just ok. Since we didn't eat it fresh from the fryer it understandably got a little soggy. The "bowls" of chowder were a JOKE!!! It was more like the size of a cup. I'd hate to see what the cup looks like, perhaps the size of a small can of cat food lol. NOT JOKING. At least they tasted decent. Visited on June 7th, 2021, mid-afternoon. Ordered the clam (bellies) basket with onion rings & a lemonade, to me that's a basic lunch order & it was 6 cents short of 30 bucks. The clams were good & about the amount you would expect in a basket. I didn't really like the onion rings, the coating was bland & falling off the very thick rings. Don't think I would go out of my way to order them again. Food was not greasy, oil was clean. Would like to have gotten a Lime Rickey but they use either sprite or ginger ale, pass. The restaurant was clean but it is an echo chamber, don't expect to have a quiet conversation when there's a crowd. The food was OK, service was terrible. I would not call ahead for pickup again. I ordered 3, 5 oz lobster rolls and a cup of Chowder. When I arrived, I went to the counter and spoke with a girl that was standing around, passing out cups of water. She told me I had to go to the end of the long line to pick up my order. There were only two registers open, one for cash and the other for cc. After 20 minutes in line it was finally my turn. The same girl, (who told me to get in line), asked the cashier to move aside so she could cut in and enter a call-in, pickup order. I said that i had been waiting in line, while my order sat on the shelf, getting cold. The customer just shrugged because he didn't know what had transpired. After she finished entering his order she went back to standing around. I asked the cashier about my order and he said I would be better off going on-line and paying for my order. When I brought the food home, the lobster roll was OK, not the best I have had. The clam chowder was crème, milk and gummy potatoes, no clams. Also, there was suppose to be chips with the rolls, they were not there. I was upset, so I didn't check. I drove up to Salem because I heard the lobster rolls were good. We've never eaten at the Beach Plum but have frequented their Ice Cream Stand in N.Hampton quite a few times! We both had a craving for a Hotdog and when I saw that they had a foot long version on their menu we both decided to to give the Beach Plum in Salem, which is located in the relatively new Tuscan Village, a try! It was a Wednesday afternoon around 2p and the place wasn't very busy. You order your food at a counter and to the right are some beer taps. We didn't expect a room full of Picknick Tables and thought that it would be like a regular restaurant with booth's and tables. No biggie, we were there for the dog's! The foot long Hotdogs come with either fries or coleslaw, we opted for the fries and just got regular dogs with mustard and relish and a couple of Sam Seasonal beers which came in a good sized plastic cup which was at least 16 ounces! When the waitress brought us our food order, the Hotdogs were in the center of the plate surrounded by a generous portion of fries and also on the tray was some plasticware, they must go through a ton of plastic waste because we didn't even see a recycling bin for the plastic cups! Ok, now to the food review! 1 through 5 Stars. Fries....4 Stars...a little salty but they were plentiful and tasty and enough for a Doggy Bag. Sam Seasonal 16oz.....5 Stars. Can't go wrong with a Sam Seasonal! Foot Long Hotdogs.....2 Stars....If you like "Skinny" this is the dog for you! Kinda reminded me of the Wendy's "Where's the Beef" catchphrase. :) Even though the dogs were grilled they came to the table just lukewarm and didn't taste like much, boring and flavorless ! Dining Area: I went to this Salem location on the same day as the Tuscan Village grand opening for lunch. It was not busy, and the entire dining area was super clean and tidy. Tables were spaced out enough. The outdoor table area was not open because it was raining. Staff: Staff was fine and service was quick. Food/Value: I paid $22 for a Fried Shrimp Basket and a fountain Coke. 10 typical fried shrimp(they do not offer the small Maine shrimp, unfortunately). Piping hot. Saw the Ipswich Shellfish delivery that morning, fresh! The fries had a wonderful seasoning. But $22. Inland. In a fancy new strip mall. $22. Take a peek at the pic of food and receipt. The "dinner" was even more expensive. And it just added coleslaw and a roll. Substitutions are almost $3....... To compare in NH, another nearby inland fry joint sells the same for ~$13, and my favorite in Rye(right across from the ocean) has the dinner for $17.99 for a bigger portion and more than just fries. And they sell beer. To compare in the clam/fry mecca of Ipswich, MA (Clam Box or Woodman's) the prices are the same or slightly higher but you get more all around. Given the reviews at this new location, perhaps time will help but the pricing is unlikely to change. I think next time I'll skip the Beach Plum for other options in the area. read more

Visited the new location for the Beach Plum in Tuscan Village, Sunday afternoon it was pretty busy bu things moved quickly. We were able to find a seat at the picnic tables outside on the patio downside is the numbers being called when your food is ready cannot be heard outside, so there were many people waiting inside making it hard to move around. We ordered lobster roll, footling hotdog with fries, fried pickles, onion blossom & corn fritters everything was excellent and reasonably priced. I don't eat seafood and found plenty of things on the menu. Highly recommended and will definitely return. read more

It was honestly the best bisque I've ever had. The fisherman's platter was good and had a huge portion. Me and my husband were both full and it looked like we had barely ate anything. The fried pickles were just normal fried pickles, nothing special. I would definitely come here again and would probably just get a bowl of the bisque. Was hard to enjoy our food with the massive crowd of people waiting for to go orders that were hovering around all tables. While to go orders seemed to be coming out, people sitting in the restaurant waited way too long, without even being told we would be waiting. By the time our food came out, everything was cold. I actually like coming here and have been here several times when I'm in the mood for some chicken fingers. I know, oddly, I like their chicken fingers. It might be the oil or something. But today was not the best experience I had encountered. I placed my order at the counter and waited for my food. Then, I went to sit down and waited like one would normally do. 10, maybe 15 minutes or so, there's no one cooking so I know for sure my food was done so I went up. There was two to-go bags sitting on the shelves. I waited patiently for someone to call my number. After a couple of minutes passed by and there's no one in the cooking side but they were all standing on the ice cream side, talking, touching their face, laughing, rubbing their belly with their bare hands, playing with their hair... I finally said okay, I'll have to ask for my food. I asked the person who took my order if one of those bags are mines. He took a look and said no. But the cook swing by and said yes it is. Someone else stapled the wrong number receipt on it but it's the chili dog and fingers. I understand the human error with the receipt. That's why I am giving two stars. But.... Belly rubbing and touching your face and all that in the kitchen just disturb me so much that I cannot even eat the food that I paid for. I took the bag and threw it out later. Perfectly fine seafood experience. I've recently been a lot to the Cape and Hampton Beach and this stacked up favorably. The Fishermans platter was great. Large enough portion that my wife and I didn't finish it together. One large piece of haddock, about 8-10 pieces each of large whole belly clams, shrimp, and sea scallops. Batter was nice and thick without overwhelming the seafood. It was nicely fried, not too greasy and the seafood was still moist inside. The clam chowder was probably the worst of what our table had and that was still fine. Lots of chunks, just not as thick as I'd prefer. The fries you get as a side to a sandwich are apparently different than the ones with the fisherman's platter. The 'side' ones are a higher quality. Thicker, skin on, hand cut style. While the fisherman's platter used more generic fries. Which is perfectly fine by me, those are mostly there to just soak up extra moisture and fill out the meal a bit. They tasted as you'd expect, but the sandwich ones were much better. Unless this was just isolated to our table and we just caught them between batches? A mystery! Everything was lightly salted. So much so that I'd have preferred some extra but was too lazy to get more from the counter, haha. I'm suprised at all the negative reviews. We went on a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't too busy, but there was still a nice flow of people and a lot of staff. The space is large and clean. Huge menu of ice cream and such. Prices were on the high side, but comparable to similar style restaurants. They also have a picture of the different weight lobster rolls, so you can gauge how much filling. 4 oz is the cheapest, but don't be surprised it's not too big. I'd definitely go again. read more

I had very high hopes for The Beach Plum, recently opened in Salem, NH. I never visited any of their other locations. But I heard good things. Yet in the end, it was a disappointment. I ordered a fried clam and scallop plate, subbing onion rings in place of fries. Ordering is done at a counter. You grab a table or seat and await your number to be called. Strange that when my number was called there was a ToGo bag waiting. But nobody was there to verify my number. So pay attention when your number is called. The Positives 1. Portion size was huge. Plenty of fried clams and scallops along with a heaping amount of onion rings. 2. The fried scallops were the star. They were plump and sweet with a very light breading. The Not So Positives 1. The price was on the high side even considering the amount of food. 2. The fried clams were on the smallish side and not sweet as you can get locally at the beach or big name clam shacks. 3. The heavy breading on the clams and onion rings had no real flavor, and left a bland flour taste. There does not appear to be any seasoning in the batter. 4. The batter on the rings did not adhere to the onion. More often than not I would grab a ring only to have the fried breading fall off leaving me with just a cooked onion in my hand and a pile of fried batter bits on my plate. 5. Possibly the worst coleslaw I've ever had. There was little to no dressing or seasoning. One taste I was done with it. I'm glad I tried it but I'll make the drive to the beach or the famous seafood restaurants around Ipswich and Essex MA for my fried clam/seafood fix. read more

Several flaws right off the bat for a brand new location. Waiting for food is a bottleneck during recommended social distancing. They should use the outside speakers to call out order numbers for those on the patio. The Ruben was fine the first time here and they gave me a package of thousand island dressing. This time they didn't and the meat was tough as leather and not edible. For a $11.99 sandwich we should make sure the quality of the product is acceptable. Chef was making food and popping french fries in his mouth as they were sitting in a metal pan to the right side of the left grill. I think this violates some type of health code. Outside tables are softly wiped down but I brought my own and the table was filthy. Again, I saw them wiping tables down but it was a very minimum effort. Both of the garbage cans inside by the food receiving area are cracked on the top. They are brand new. How does this happen and how is this acceptable?
