a hand holding a cup of ice cream

I drive up to Hampton not for the beach, but to grab a giant lobster roll from The Beach Plum! The portion is huge and honestly reasonably priced compared to Boston. The ice cream is also very generous - I got a small and it was definitely more than enough for two people. You can't beat the views of the ocean and summer sunsets here. It's a little hard to find parking as it's apart of the beach, but definitely worth it when you can find a spot.

We enjoyed the huge menu selection here! The portions are for ice cream and burger are massive. The lobster claws here are delicious, and the seasonings are less bland than most places you get food up here in New England. We eventually got their lobster rolls Connecticut style since they seem to be the only ones who do it with the warm butter but it does cost a pretty penny. Service is standard. You order, sit down, and someone will bring your food with your order number. Seating is spacious and clean.

    $18.99 side order of Haddock

We ordered take out from here 6/3/2024. I got the Haddock pint side order for $18.99. When I got home and opened it, I was amazed and how much of a rip off this was. Our kids got the Haddock basket and that was so minuscule, I had to give the kids most of my Haddock nuggets side to fill their bellies. Mind you they're 3 and 6 years old. To say that I won't be going back to any of The Beach Plum locations is an understatement. I've been eating seafood in New England my entire life and have never been to a seafood restaurant that served up such a minuscule amount of main course, than this place. My wife ordered the lobster roll and it didn't even fill the regular sized hot dog bun. Do yourself a favor, keep driving down 101 and find the real seafood restaurants along the seacoast that will serve you what you're paying for.

    Clam Strip Dinner
    Chelsey E.

Stopped by The Beach Plum after work today and ordered the clam strip dinner with fries and Cole slaw. Got a Frappe and sat myself by the wall near the door. At first glance this place does feel very beachy, open floors, outdoor seating and a very family/group friendly vibe. I was a little disappointed in the lack of couple or single person seating, I kind of felt out of place eating alone here, like I was taking up space since most of the tables were for 4+ people. The staff was friendly and brought the food out very quickly. The portion was very big for a pretty fair price and the clam strips were crispy on the outside with perfect chunks of clam in the middle, absolutely perfect. The fries were just right and the coleslaw was the ideal amount of sweet and savory. I'd say this is a great spot to take your family or stop by with your friend to have a drink and chat, not so much for the loner type like me but hey snag something to go because I can confidently say those were the best clam strips outside of York Beach Maine I've had to date.

How much ice cream is in a small cone? It's huge -- too huge!

About two big scoops it's definitely big but always delicious! They do sell kiddies tho if you don't have a big appetite.

Last time I was there prior to the recent two visits Telly's was pretty much a small sub and pizza fast food restaurant and now it's a real restaurant. The first night with friends, I had the eggplant Parmesan sub with homemade chips. My husband had a burger with fries. My husband said his burger was okay, nothing special and the fries were those coated things that are supposed to be extra crispy. My husband I both dislike those. My meal was absolutely wonderful! The sub was delicious and the homemade chips had some kind of seasoning on them and they were out of this world so my husband ordered a basket of them since he didn't like the fries. He and one of our friends shared them and they both really enjoyed them. The next night meeting other friends, I ordered the Italian cold cut sub with the homemade chips and my husband decided to just have the buffalo chicken appetizer as his meal. He said the buffalo chicken was amazingly good and he enjoyed every bite. My meal was another story. I took the first bite of my Italian sub and all of the meat slid off the sub because the meat had the plastic casings rather than natural casings and whoever cut the cold cuts left it on. I stopped to remove all of the plastic casing, reassembled my sandwich and moved on with dinner. Then I ate one of the chips and realized these were not the same chips I had the night before. They appeared to be and tasted like maybe Cape Cod kettle chips which I don't like. So I didn't eat many chips. Servers on both nights were pleasant and attentive. I didn't mention my concerns to them at the time as our friends had picked the restaurant and I didn't want to be a wet blanket. However, I think management has some opportunities to make this place excellent every day rather than hit or miss.

We're traveling back from an antique shop in Maine and decided to try this place out. Got to the restaurant around 3 PM were seated right away the seating that we were in only had three tables and it was quite busy as it was in the walking area to and from the back seating and the butcher so there's a lot of traffic in that seating area It was quite noisy in the back seating area as it carried over to the front We were made aware of the specials and today was buy one get one lobster rolls. I was excited to hear about that because I'm a super fan of seafood and lobster included so of course I went with the $25 portion without the bread because I didn't want the bread. You can tell the difference in my photo of lobster versus other photos mine looks as if it was the bottom of the barrel As for the flavor and taste of the lobster, I was not a fan of it. It was very dry rubbery it seemed to be soaked in some sort of an oil or something that didn't compliment it at all as for the portion size that was good I will not go back for buy one get one lobster roll I don't believe this is fresh lobster this seems frozen not good at all My husband's burger, he enjoyed the chicken portion of the burger, but the actual burger itself was burnt on both sides, making it very tough and dry to eat When the plate arrived, it looked a little un appetizing. It had two slices of pickle crossed over and then the burger. I think the plate that they used could be changed maybe use a wood block as it is a butcher shop as well. All of the staff were dressed appropriately. You could tell that they worked there. Our server waitress was very friendly very attentive to our needs. The place was very clean. Our total bill came to $63 and we left a $20 tip which I didn't find to be unreasonably priced for the amount of food we got but again as for flavoring of the food I was not a fan I won't return

This place is absurdly consistent. The portions are always generous, the quality is never caught lacking, and the dining room is spotless in that reassuring someone actually cares way. The staff (and it's always the same people that are there, which is cool in itself that there's no noticeable turnover in the staff) is friendly without being fake about it... efficient, pleasant, and clearly proud of what they're serving from fryers behind the soda fountains. Let's talk food, because wow. That's why you're reading this. The fried shrimp are so good that my wife (who does not like seafood) actively loves them. That alone should be printed on the menu. I've only known her to eat fried shrimp when the breading weighs more than the shrimp itself (which is not the case here). The tartar sauce is the best in North America. It's my crack. If I drank it through a straw (a bit too thick), that straw would be called a crack pipe. I literally smile writing about this tartar sauce. I will not be taking questions at this time. The "regular" fries are exactly what fries should be: crisp, fluffy, salty perfection. And the onion rings? Peak "fried seafood place" onion rings... golden, crunchy, and unapologetically doing their job, not tempura style, but old school Weathervane "fried seafood style" onion rings that you can sub in instead of fries on plates/boats for a small upcharge. Even the bathrooms are clean, which sounds like a throwaway detail until you realize how rare that is and how much it says about the place. We love it so much that we'll happily drive 40 minutes each way to eat there - in winter - because that's what you do when a place never lets you down. And despite the sign saying Al's Seafood, we tell everyone it's called "Big Al's Seafood" Not because that's the name, but because that's the energy this place has... It's not trendy. It's not trying to reinvent anything. It's just awesome, every single time and honestly, that's harder to pull off than any gimmick. Signing off... keep it up, Big Al.
