Great spot on portobello beach. It has a wonderful beach front view, so try to grab outdoor seating if you can. They have a selection of sweets and treats on display inside. Order one with your coffee and just enjoy the view.

OMG! - I have been to this place a few times and realize only know that I have not yet written a review. It must have been my enthusiasm for this location and coffee shop that made me forget...... The Beach House is easy to find. Get off the 26 bus on Portobello High Street, which crosses with Bath Road. There is a charity shop on the corner. Walk down Bath Road and get to the end of the road where you can see the open sea and smell the fresh sea air. Sandy beaches lay bare infront of you with many people strolling along the promenade, enjoying the scenery and a brisk fresh air walk.. Turning to the right you will find the beach hut. You cant oversee it. The exterior tries to blend in with the area of a sea side resort: White and Blue colours, inside and out! In the summer you can sit outside either on the promenade wall or if you are lucky enough you conquer a table and chairs. The interior invites you to sit down and rest your laurels. Its warm in the winter and with a hot chocolate and a cake it is just too good to be true. Once I enjoyed an ice cream Sundae (in the summer) with caramel topping. Lately I ordered a hot chocolate and a few scoops of their creamy ice cream. You can also get cakes and a light lunch, soft drinks, coffee, soup etc, apparently all organic and from local suppliers. Sometimes I feel the service is a bit slow, such best you have plenty of time - what you should have, as time stands still when you are at a beach side resort :-) The slow service aside, the staff is very friendly. It is my favourite place to enjoy peace and tranquility!

This seems to be one of the most popular haunts for promenade eating and drinking, and for good reason. The space is airy and bright, despite always being almost full to capacity. The cakes are fresh and extremely tasty, with a range of gluten free options to cater for GF cake nommers. The tea is plentiful and refreshing. Food is varied and good quality. The service is with a smile, though it sometimes is a wee bit slow - due probably to the business of the place. Definitely recommend, I always like to have a quick stop here!

This is a great place right next to the beach, I'm surprised that it took me so long to pay s visit. I like this place as there is plenty of seating outside from when it's busy inside, on the morning that l came in it was a very cold and frosty morning and I needed a cup of tea to warm me up, l already ate my sandwiches that l bought with me as l thought this place did teas & cakes, if l had known that l could gave got a breakfast filled roll here l would have probably saved my sandwiches for later. Light lunches served here with freshly made soup of the day, plenty of staff to serve, this place has that cafe vibe & feel to it.

I just fancied a scone and a flat white beside the beach and this is what I get! Perfect!!! Really nice fruit scone with jam and butter, topped off with a lovely warm, tasting flat white right beside the beach. The staff were friendly and service was quick too. I'll be here again - it's enough to brighten up anyone's day!

Overlooking Portobello Beach stands the Beach House café. Located on the corner of Bath Street this café offers a wide ranging menu. From coffee, to pastries, sandwiches and salads and cooked breakfasts, this café does it all. Inside, the café pays homage to its location with deep sea blue walls with various sailing decorations located across the café. Cakes and breads are cooked daily in the café, and one can only admire the smells on offer in the café. It was very busy with families when I paid it a visit and had a great buzzing atmosphere. And from reading about it, it certainly has won admirers and is one of the best places to go for a bite to eat in the area. With great views of the beach and the Firth of Forth, it really is an ideal location for a café. And even better, this café matches the hype surrounding it.

With it being on the High Street, this place does not have the luxury of the peace and quiet that other coffee houses have which are located nearer the beach. However, when inside, you become less aware of the busy traffic. The coffee house itself is quite small inside with a relaxing, laid back atmosphere. The coffee was not very expensive at all, and when I was looking around I found that this place offered a lot more than just your normal coffee. On top of a range of hot drinks, this place also offers small bites to eat including soup and small sandwiches. When I was in, the coffee House was not full, but was certainly getting busier when I left during the mid afternoon. A laid back atmosphere which is always nice when having a coffee.

For a cappuccino, it only costs £1.75, which is very reasonable and tastes nice and frothy. But when I looked at the food menu, I thought that I would wait and go somewhere cheaper for my lunch. The cheapest sandwich that they do is £4, and although it has a lot of fresh ingredients in it, i would much prefer if they would do some basic sandwiches and charge these more modestly. They do a range of other food such as baked potatoes, soups and all day breakfasts. The shop itself is pretty small, but there is a couple of tables outside, which could be put to good use on a nice Summers day.

I need the exercise) reminded me I had yet to visit Breadshare. The first thing that hits you is the wonderful smell of bread. The kitchen where they bake is wide open for public view and you can have a glimpse of it as you walk by towards the bathrooms. They do all sorts of nutty / seedy /cheesy breads, croutons, and focaccias - most of which are suitable for vegans as they start with a vegan base then add in other ingredients. Service was excellent - the server (owner?) talked us through the many vegan options, which included butternut squash, aduki bean, and smoked jalapeno soup, the many suitable breads, and the bean stew. Soya milk and oat milk is also available for teas and coffees, as well as a dairyfree spread for bread. Sadly, no vegan cakes in today, but I'm sure with advanced notice some would be available. She said although she isn't vegan her daughters are, so she has a lot of experience in vegan cooking and is soon to try out vegan meringue recipes.... all going well she will offer them for sale in the cafe. That will be exciting! High chairs are available for little eaters, and the hand drier in the bathroom has excellent power!
