Chicken Parmesan and side salad
David L.

Four of us came into have a late lunch on a Saturday. We were sat quickly and out waiter Austin was Amazing. He checked on us regularly, was very helpful with menu suggestions and to get us anything that was needed. The Place was not super busy however it took over 40 min for our food to arrive at the table. Food looked amazing however had absolutely NO seasoning. All four of our dishes were all just bland, nothing stood out or even had that restaurant flare or flavoring. The dining area itself was a cute cafe feel to in with a full bar.

We've loved basil leaf ever since their location on 9th street! Service was great and they were accommodating to having our dog on the patio. Inside is always clean with minimalist decor but this time we sat on the patio. We made it to happy hour and got the cocktail of the day (strawberry rose lemonade with vodka), rosé sangria, and meatballs to start off. Our entrees were served soon after. Portions are always large and filling with some leftovers! Although we enjoy the menu, we miss the lemon fried chicken with mashed potatoes from a few years back!!

It was difficult to decide which I wanted. It was like an assembly line of perfect little treats. The staff was very nice and helpful. The selection seemed endless and they had drinks in cans that were delicious. I had a very difficult time choosing which I was going to try. There is a seating area in the rear of the restaurant. It was full of happy people eating pastries and chatting. It was a perfect setting. I had heard about this place for years but never ventured inside. I regret not going to this lovely place sooner. I will definitely go back and recommend. I guess this is a franchise business with locations all over the US. I am just glad we have one in Lawrence. Still... WOW!

Couldn't believe it when I a friend told me this place has been in operation for years. Guess I need to venture over to Lawrence from Topeka more often! While not the case across the board, we found a number of the items we selected to be on par with the quality of treats we enjoy while visiting France. Needless to say I will be wearing out the Turnpike making return visits to this real gem.

YUM YUM YUM! if you love cream filled donuts then this is your place to be!!! After learning about…read moreall the sourdough donut hype, watching viral reels on instagram and seeing those delicious donut photos, I had to try it out and today was the day!!! I arrived at 6.45 am and there were already around 60+ people waiting on a Friday morning .. crazy right.. I heard Saturdays are even worse lol. Finally got to enter the shop at 8.15 am and picked up 6 donuts. I think they rotate flavors often or have one new flavor every week, so the ones I got were Bavarian, Blood orange raspberry, Pandan coconut, Biscoff cream and Hot honey pimento cheese. Honestly after taking a bite from each one, the wait time, the hype, all those viral reels actually made soo much sense haha. The donuts are packed with cream but still feel so light and airy, almost feels like biting into a cloud cake. If I had to pick favorites then it would be the Spicy pimento cheese and the Bavarian. The bakery is open Fridays and Saturdays, Fridays starting at 8 AM and Saturdays from 9 AM and the donuts sell out by 10 am. I also heard the owner mention they might open Thursdays soon!!! Each donut is around $5 plus, and I didn't really mind paying that much because the quality is top notch. I even saw the owners chatting with people in line which was nice, they seemed pretty friendly. Loved the ambience inside the shop too, especially the huge white hanging lanterns and how clean and simple the space felt. Overall, these donuts are a hitttt. If you're planning to go early morning, try to get in line by 6:30 AM or at least by 7 AM. If you do end up after the store opens, just know the line gets really long and there's a chance you might miss out. Good Luck!

The time I waited at the OP farmers market, I had to wait for 2 hours. Unfortunately, it's difficult for me to stand for too long. I need to invest in a lawn chair or something, ha. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside -- a cozy mix of rustic and modern that creates a really inviting atmosphere. Service started a little slow, though our waitress became more attentive once she came by. We mentioned it was our first visit, so I was a bit surprised there wasn't much guidance on the menu or any recommendations. At one point I asked about the two kinds of fries (I love fries!), and the explanation was simply that they were "fancy fries," without much detail on flavors or differences. We started with drinks and the Brussels sprouts appetizer. The sprouts were actually very good, with a nice balance in the sauce, and both the wine and sangria were refreshing. Unfortunately, dinner is where things went downhill. Our meals -- a steak and a gluten-free chicken sandwich -- took about 45 minutes to arrive, which felt long for relatively simple dishes. I had asked about the gluten-free bun since they can sometimes be dry, but didn't receive much insight beyond "it's gluten free," and sadly it was indeed very dry. The chicken itself lacked flavor, though the goat cheese cilantro sauce helped make it somewhat enjoyable. The fries looked homemade and delicious but arrived cold. The steak was cooked as requested, but it didn't have much flavor beyond the mushrooms on top. The broccoli side was tasty, and the potatoes were good, though it on a bed of Some kind of cheese sauce that wasn't quite to our liking. Overall, the space and gluten-free availability were promising, and the appetizers and drinks were enjoyable, but the food execution and service details didn't quite meet expectations for us this visit.

I ordered a box of cookies and a side of icing and sprinkles, and they only delivered the cookies, no icing. That's fine, stuff happens and I can't be mad about cookies on my porch. I called them up to ask about the icing and they knew exactly who I was and why I was calling; they had that icing sent back out in like six more minutes, maybe four, I don't know, it was fast. Not only did they deliver my missing icing, they gave me what must have been an apology box of cookies which contained 75% of the cookies that had already been ordered and previously delivered! Omg, whatever will I do with all of these extra treats!??? Honestly, tonight was a terrible evening outside of the insomnia cookie experience. I was fine with a regular vegan chocolate chunk for my second one, but somehow they were completely out of that. This was at 10 pm, 3 full hours before closing; I'm not sure what is 'insomnia' about that. The cherry on top was realizing that I ended up paying full price for half of a cookie (it literally looked like they had sliced it in half to serve another). As someone who has worked food service, I'm not sure how this was served in confidence (we also started closing at closing time, not half a shift before it).
