Since I've downsized, I've become a passive shopper but that doesn't stop me from looking and buying. Last time here I focused on Adamstown Antique Mall. Today, Adams Antique Annex. What impressed me is the sheer size of this store and the number of booths brimming with merchandise. The store offers 10% off any item exceeding $10; a good number of vendors looking to clear stock offer additional discounts. Ah .... bargains! I have a set of green-stemmed wine glasses that my husband brought back from Germany. They fit nicely in the dishwasher, but over the years several broke. While not looking to replenish -- I have other glasses -- when I saw these at $35 plus 35% off, I thought 'why not?' We live in a hundred year old building; I'd been eyeing old advertising thermometers for my tiny porch. Apparently, they've become a 'thing' but not willing to spend hundreds of dollars as many are priced, I wasn't optimistic. T spotted one from Yeager Supply, still in business in Reading, PA. While not campy, and not as old as I'd like -- this dates to the late 1960's -- at $18 (plus the store's 10% discount) it was a no-brainer. Jewelry, pottery, furniture, you name it. With pleasant staff and so much to look at -- plus, the mall is air conditioned! -- add Adams Antique Annex to your list.

I shop all the time in Philly and honestly the cost of such items wasn't terrible in comparison to the city. I understand the range in pricing given different vendors price differently, so I'll chalk up some of the more shocking prices to that. My mom shops for Black Americana and did find a few items too. It was clear some were 1800s-early 1900s. Overall many items were there to choose from. Cell service was terrible here but my service was bad in this part of town in general. The staff were great. One person recommended some thrift shops in town for us and chatted with me about a shared interest in thrifting. I would return!

Though I no longer actively collect -- I've downsized since selling my house -- I still look at items that interest me and rarely pass up a deal. Mad Hatter has beautiful pottery. (I've collected Hull and Roseville for 35+ years.) Several booths specialize in kitschy mid-century items which I find fun. I debated about purchasing the snack bowls I photographed, which my mom had in the 1950s. (Decided against it. Nostalgia didn't win out this time.) You can breeze through the mall or spend hours looking. Parking is easy, the staff is helpful and as said, if you're looking to build a collection, Mad Hatter is worth a visit.

I was lucky enough to find one, and be here during open hours, and was able to browse. This is a cute little store, that sits up off the sidewalk. You have to take a few stairs and enter the store itself. It reminds you of a time when neighborhoods depended on storefronts like this. I didn't have anything in particular that I was looking for in here, but I made my way inside to browse the store. I did a quick once over of the clothing and found myself in the section of the store that offered home goods. That was until the vinyl caught my eyes. It wasn't much, but I checked every single vinyl they had to see if I might want it. There weren't any that tickled my fancy, but it was nice to look. I continued to browse the rest of the store. Chatted with the lady working that day and made my way back out.
