This is a fun place for food and drinks. The service is friendly and kind. The cornbread was the star of the meal and I would come back for this alone. The only con of the meal was that I wasn't thrilled that there was a bone on my plate without meat on it, as well as a piece of cartilage. Can definitely see this as a spot to come with friends to let loose!
Been a few times - the service is always hit or miss - but I have to say my last visit the service was much better than my previous visit - the servers were attentive, the food is always consistently good. The DJ at the Sunday brunch really added a nice touch.
First and foremost most the food was crazy good the only thing I didn't like was the fritter I felt like there was fried in oil that was too hot and rushed but for the most part everything is fire The sweet plantain pancake the frittay platter was amazing the French toast is my favorite I'm coming backkk
Black-owned establishment opened up last year on this strip. This place adds a little something different to the mix. I was in the area, saw this place on IG, and decided to try it out. The staff were cool, everyone was friendly and the food was good.. Had no complaints. Bartender made Old Fashion strong but didn't taste strong perfect mix. Shrimp in the shrimp and grits was seasoned well and the Guyanese Chow mein really hit the spot. Overall good solid spot. Was a quick stop next time I come I will chill and vibe out for the night and try more things on the menu.
Let's start with the very positive the staff and people are very nice helpful and on point down to date it's like talking to my boys the service was great the provided good feed back and was on point about the menus and the drinks. Talk about the drinks that turn up was turned up they said I'm bold and they was right it was a hit strong but good took my time with it strong but very good. Now the part I hate the food this my second time here first was good this time food was a tad bit salty not only mine but most of our food was it wasn't a good day for the food but everything else was amazing. On this day I had the curry chicken to salty for my taste and the oxtail empanadas as well but I would go back and try it again I'm 1 and 1 on the food so I need a tie breaker
Was late to reservations, but luckily made it in time prior to a large party arriving. I tried their fresh juice. I enjoyed the French toast. They give like 2 pieces of bacon. The grits with cheese wasn't bad. Needed a little pepper. Alcoholic drinks were good. I would go back to try dinner.
This is my 2nd time at this establishment. The first time was for brunch and it was great. The 2nd time was for dinner and we celebrated my friend's birthday. The staff are amazing. Great personalities and really kind. I have it a 3 this time because the food was super salty. I love great seasoning, but I could feel my blood pressure rising so I could not finish it.
My family and I visited this establishment for Mother's Day, and there was a larger crowd than expected, so the wait to be seated was longer than we anticipated. I'm not sure if everyone had a reservation, but it was a bit of a frantic start to a day of celebration. Yes, our party was seated later than expected, but it was understandable. The owner was on top of things and allowed the older members of our party to be seated at the bar until our table was ready. She was pleasant, professional, and more than accommodating. Adjustments had to be made as they were short-staffed, but our waitress provided excellent service as things progressed. There was never a moment when we felt rushed. The space is welcoming, beautiful, and well put together. I loved the decor, as it instantly transported us to the islands. The food is delicious, worth the wait. The Shrimp & Grits and The Barnyard Rasta Pasta w/Chicken were as good as others among the comments have said, I agree- on point! The waffle was light, fluffy, yet crispy (I just wish it was a little warmer). I would also recommend the Tropical Punch, a nice addition to my meal! Everyone loved their food, and the DJ for the brunch hours was great. We had to get his card. We plan on coming back to try the lunch and dinner menu. If you're looking to add a new brunch spot, this is one to add.
Came here for a Sunday brunch and we were pleased. "T" and Shaday(forgive the spelling) were very nice taking care of all the tables. Our reservation was honored and we were promptly seated on arrival. There was a dj playing great music while we indulged in the bottomless rum punch (which did the job). We enjoyed Rasta pasta, wings, and plantain pancakes, as well as the Mac and cheese. All was well, the only drawback was that the Mac and cheese came out long after everything else, at that point we actually forgot we ordered it. Nonetheless we do recommend this restaurant.
Let me start with this... the warmest, friendliest waitstaff and hostess around. At least for Saturday Brunch they were. The music was low so it was very easy to talk. The food: Plantain pancakes had an interesting aftertaste that I can't place. It was good but maybe too much unripe plantain in the mix. The island chicken & waffles were good! Waffle was fluffy not heavy and the chicken was well seasoned Side of bacon: exactly 2 strips- expensive for what you get The fries were pretty good Cocktails: Chez Negril- BOMB! Buffalo Soldier- not like Mom made. Quite bitter. My family used condensed milk. This one is straight up Guinness & Milk- the spices do not include sugar or any sweetener I was pretty disappointed that the Brunch menu does not offer any appetizers. They're not at all available to order either. I think I'll hold off on Brunch and try Lunch or Dinner next time.
Interesting take on Caribbean soul food! The weekend brunch is a good bet with bottomless pitchers and different menu items as compared to other restaurants in the farmingdale area. Nice interior and good service make a good overall package.
I returned to the barnyard for a birthday brunch with friends. We were a party of 20 and the establishment accommodated us well. There was a DJ there playing classic R&B and popular hits many can sing along to. The waitress did her best to organize our orders but you can tell she needed help. She had a can-do attitude and managed to check in frequently with us. The most popular choices were chicken and waffles, chicken wings, ackee and salt fish. Their rum punch was a huge hit at this event because the waitress suggested a shot of wrey and nephew rum. Overall great afternoon filled with laughs and good company and sing along music.
The food is AMAZING! It's prepared fresh with a lot of love and soul. The service is friendly andknowledgeable. The ambiance is fun and creative. I'll definately be back!

I've been here twice and I already know Imma regular lol here's the run down ... First of let me just say , this time I came solo and left with friends soo HELLOOO SINGLES..Pull up lol The first time I came was for a birthday party. About 25 people (the restaurant has around 10-12 tables) The jerk chicken tacos amazinggg! (Comes with 2 and it's packed with meat) The oxtail empanadas packed withhhh oxtail sooo good. The fritterssss OMG idk how they get it sooo crispy on the outside and then legit melt in your mouth when you bite in . Not doughyyy . You get all the fish. Delicious. Not to mention the green sauce it comes with . Great addition . I was not expecting it to taste this good (PS. It says It has scotch bonnet it but I don't taste it aka it's not spicy) The wingssss... sheesh the jerk! For my caribbeans it's real jerk don't worry! Island BBQ is sooo good. My daughter tore that up so kid friendly for the picky eating youngins The catch of the day ..snapper. Again balanced with a perfect crunch and yet a delicate flake Short Ribs had great flavor. And very tender. I was so full I didn't finish it . When I went to reheat it the next day. I poured that gravy over it and it was just as delish I'm back now for ALL DAY SUNDAY BRUNCH Shannon's my server and she was super attentive and helpful! Came back for the fritters! Don't know how it was even better but it was ! Grits (a lil salty) but for one who usually has to ask for salt/pepper/butter/cheese to make it taste how I want...I will say I needed nothing extra Chicken and waffles ...you guessed it crunchy on the outside and perfect on the inside . They master the art of texture! And these wings were hugeee . Overall. You won't leave disappointed . Great music, but still a calm chill atmosphere . It's not loud so you don't have to worry about yelling across the table. Open kitchen so you can see the chefs at work . Four tvs for sports games. About 5 seats at the bar. See you soon read more

Hi Mirna,…
I finally dined at The Barnyard for dinner. I first attempted a few months ago on a Sunday for brunch and it was a no go. It was super crowded and those who had reservations was still waiting to be seated. It wasn't crowded this visit, but this place is small, as in like 7-10 tables only small. So yes, it is recommended to make a reservation because they will turn you away unfortunately. But once you are in and seated, well worth the wait! We ended up siting at the bar as a walk in (got lucky). The vibe is cool - good music, attentive service, and most importantly the food and drink was good! For starters we got the jerk chicken tacos and oxtail empanadas. Both were very flavorful, made to order and served hot. For the entrees - Jerk chicken burrito and rasta pasta. Chef's kiss! There appeared to be so many good food options to try so rest assured I'll be back. Oh another plus - $5 drinks for ladies only all day everyday. It's the Yard Stick special - your choice of rum punch, margaritas, or house cocktail. Can't beat that! If you want good food with a cool vibe, The Barnyard is it! read more

UPDATE I decided to give the place another try BUT instead of takeout this time I decided to go in person and I'm glad I did. I have to say the service and hospitality of the restaurant was absolutely welcoming, warm and inviting. The owner was so friendly and pleasant. The food in person was so much better, tasty and had really delicious flavors which was contrary to our take out experience. The place is cozy with a very nice vibe. I'm glad I gave them another try. read more

I went for lunch with 2 of my friends. The curry chicken was really good. I wanted more. . It was tender and not too spicy so you could really taste the food. The roti was a little too doughy for me. The martini was good but could have had a little less passion fruit. Our server was very nice and hospitable. The wait time for food was a little lengthy but the server made it worth it. It was very clean and a nice ambiance in the restaurant. read more

Bro, I'm a forever be singing. These people's praises to the high heavens. I'm telling you just try. The ambience is amazing. The food is amazing everything about this place is just a 10 out of 10. I can't recommend it enough and looking forward to trying more of their amazing food even the oxtail I thought that it may not taste too much like oxtail since being cooked in an empanada, but with the jerk sauce, make you slap your mama good read more

Food was terrible. Went in for pick up and waited over an hour for the jerk chicken and white rice combo. Then to tell me they don't have anymore white rice for my second order. after an hour is when they realized? Payed over $70 for hard rice at that and the portion wasn't worth it. I will be going back to Angie soul house for all that drama. Ambiance is small and not really made for dine in for real. First and last time cause the food didn't even make all that nonsense worth it. read more

My very picky son and I went here for lunch the other day. I love Caribbean food but the reason we chose this place is because they had macaroni and cheese on the menu! They serve it in a hot skillet and he said it was absolutely fantastic. They started us with plantain chips, which he also ate, which was crazy, we got cornbread, which he ate and the mac & cheese and fries for him. I got the chicken tacos, they come two at a time, and were unbelievably moist and delicious. Then I got wings, which were very tasty. We even split a mocktail and this one had mango& pineapple. We are definitely going to go back and try some of the other foods. By the way, I asked for hot sauce, it's a pepper sauce, and it's delicious and if you're looking for an amazing hot sauce, that'll burn your pallet, this is it. Really attentive staff, highly recommend. The staff is from all parts of the Caribbean. Totally cute little eclectic place. read more

1/5 me & my friends recently dined here after looking into this restaurant for a while and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. We were the only guests in the restaurant, yet the service was extremely slow. Our server Laura, seemed confused throughout the time spent and even struggled to recall her own name when asked, which made the service feel unprofessional and unprepared. The food itself was about a 3/10 -- lacking in flavor and quality. The drinks were also poorly made, watered down, and overly sweet with too much syrup. For the price and expectations of dining out, this was not worth it at all. Sadly, I cannot recommend this restaurant as both the food and service fell far below standard. read more

Hi Ralph,…
This restaurant is small but very intimate . The decor and music are fun and exciting. Food was very good The shrimp and grits were very good, and the plantains are a MUST order. The egg sandwich however definitely left something to be desired it was solid and had fresh ingredients but needed a sauce or something to really elevate it. Service was very nice and friendly. Definitely will try dinner next time. read more

Visited recently with a group. Staff were all extremely nice from entry to exit. The plantain chips on the table were a nice change from regular bread and butter options. Tried their short rib, black rice, and baked Mac n cheese. I was hoping for and expecting a more caribbean (Haitian specifically) style but it wasnt that. Wasn't bad, but blah. The short rib was yummy. Sub'd the polenta for their mushroom black rice, it needed salt. Was honestly underwhelmed for the $54 it cost ($39 short rib, + $3 rice change upcharge + $12 mac) but price firs the area. Food took rather long to come out. Thought they were trying to bring it all at once but plates started coming out in pieces. I was nearly done by the time the last plate came. Although the restaurant was full the entire visit, it's a particularly small place and I didn't see a group of more than 2 per table so not really sure why it took so long. Would be open to visit again with max 2-4ppl to see how things go. read more

My son took me here for Mother's Day brunch. We did not have reservations so did not expect to be seated promptly. The waitress/ hostess did ask if we wanted to sit at the bar and we accepted. She said another person was coming to clean it off and we would be able to sit. It took about 20 minutes for her to "clean" the bar area. She was moving very sluggish. We were sitting at the bar and after about 10 minutes she took our orders. My son ordered 2 rum punches and only got 1 so after about 5 minutes I asked her where the other one was and she said she thought he only ordered one. Anyway. I ordered the chicken Rasta pasta and a side of plantain and my son ordered the chicken and waffles. It took about 40 minutes for the food to come out. The waitress/hostess seemed to be the only one working about 7 tables and the other lady, who I assume to be maybe the owner or manager jumped in every now and again . The Rasta pasta was flavorless and very spicy. My son said his chicken and waffles were mid. All in all it was not the best experience for visiting for the first time especially on Mother's Day. I felt like they could've had more help. The waitress had her hands full. And she did the best she could. I would've loved to visit for dinner but after that experience I'm not too sure. read more
