While a majority of my reviews are 4/5 stars focused on the positive, I have to be truthful about my experience. First off, it's important to note Barking Spot is closed on Saturday's, which posed as an inconvenience for us because we had to book an additional night. We boarded our sweet doggie in February of 2024 and added a bath/full groom to the end of her stay. The male owner was working when we dropped off and he didn't exude warm vibes. If you desire staff to show affection when your pet arrives, don't expect that here. I don't have any complaints about the boarding, we got what we paid for, as far as I could tell. My issue was with the grooming. I met with the groomer about the details prior to the visit. When we picked up doggie, she was scalped. A call to explain the situation would have been appreciated to ease the shock. Finally, the owner prefers text for all communication which was ok but, when I shared my concerns he was non responsive. Customer service is lacking at the Barking Spot. We will not return, especially when there are many other great options for both boarding and grooming. read more

After making an appointment for May 9 at our February groom, the May 9 was cancelled by Barking Spot via text and an apology. Texter said they would reschedule our poodle, but never did. I have had several bad experiences at this facility. First grooming, Ace has had a couple "deluxe baths" that were never completed (i.e his nails were not trimmed and ears were not cleaned). After the deluxe was falling short, I opted for just the "basic bath" after one of his boarding stays. When I picked him up, not only was he still wet but he was put back into daycare after his bath. I was shocked as this of course defeated the purpose of a bath being given for pickup. Next, daycare. Ace went to daycare several times. He loved playing with the pups and came home very tired. However, I started noticing regular lacerations on him. A lot of times I wouldn't notice until after the fact as he is a black lab so it's hard to tell until it scabs. I stopped sending him when it became apparent something was not right. I understand dogs can be rough but it's hard to believe it would happen that many times since there is supposed to be an attendant watching. Lastly, boarding. I boarded Ace here a total of three times. Out of those three times, he ended up in the vet twice. $700 in vet bills later, I brought it to the attention of the facility owners (Paula and Don) where they told me "well dogs get sick". While I know that can be true, I find it (again) hard to believe this happens as frequently at other facilities. It's obvious that there is an issue of either cleanliness or care at this place. There was also an issue of a medication being given to Ace, who has strict orders to not have anything other than what I provide as he has some gastrointestinal issues. At first I was told he was given the medication (through text and call) then after I complained he was sick again after pickup, I was told he definitely wasn't given anything.....strange how that works. I will never know the truth of if he was given something or not. After I pushed back over how many times he's been sick after staying at this place, the owners of The Barking Spot took it upon themselves to actually call our vet to try to get Ace's medical records. As if any of this was not enough. After one of the boarding stays, Ace came home with food leftover (I pre portion everything to the day) so presumably, he missed a meal at some point during his stay. As you can see through my experience, I really tried to give the benefit of the doubt on many occasions. I know dogs have germs and get sick, I know dogs play rough and may hurt each other on occasion, and I know things may innocently missed in grooming. However, I would expect some accountability on The Barking Spot's side and none has been taken. I just wanted to get Ace back in the same shape I left him in and in each of these cases, I didn't. read more

Hands down the best. I have my first dog. She just turned two. Since she got her full set of shots after her first birthday, I have been taking her to daycare at Barking Spot. Everyone there is an amazing human. I've been able to ask questions any new dog owner might have. My beagle spends her daycare days in a safe loving environment around dogs of her similar size and temperament. I boarded her for the first time ever a couple weeks ago. I missed her like crazy but I knew she was in the best hands. They made check-in and check-out so easy, and when I picked her up, it was like nothing happened, like no boarding ever took place. She is so happy and sweet, no hiccups in her routine or behaviors at all. Just all the proof that she was really cared for and treated so well. The Barking Spot is a wonderful place full of wonderful people who truly love dogs and it really really shows. I am so grateful that I found them and I highly highly recommend them. I have not used their grooming services yet but I've heard nothing but the best things. read more

*Beware boarding your dog at The Barking Spot. My daughter and her boyfriend boarded their puppy Bear from 7/24-7/31. I dropped him off for them in perfect condition, with three toys. My daughter and her boyfriend picked them up today and notice him squirming once they handed him to them. There was a substance smearing all over the floor when he moved his paws and they believed it to be mud. However, as they took a closer look and smelled it, it was blood all over his paws. The front desk lady stood up and checked them out and said "Look he may have pricked his paw on something." She brought out hydrogen peroxide and ointment to put on his paws. She scrambled for another excuse that "he has delicate puppy paws." The owner said "he didn't know what could've hurt his paws as there was no blood in his run" They asked for his 3 toys back and only were returned two that were soaking wet. They were stunned and left in shock. As they took a closer look at him in the car they noticed his paws were burnt raw. The pictures are posted below. My daughter's boyfriend tried to call to figure out what actually happened and the owner said he would call him back as he had a full lobby. When he called back again he proceeded to tell them that Bear's paws were burnt raw and what would have caused that. The owner was defensive in his tone and said that there was nothing that he could have burnt them on as their patio is covered. He was trying to think of a solution but could not give him one. He further said that he would like some of the money back to cover vet bills and he refused because he was housed for 7 days. And he said he understood that he housed him for seven days, and then the owner hung up on him mid-sentence. This is extremely unprofessional for a business that you entrust your dogs with to oversee their overall health and well-being while you are away. Again, his paws were in perfect condition when dropped off, as they do not take him on walks on hot days. Please stay away from this business, we should have listened to the reviews and the complaints about the owner's behavior. read more

I was happy with the kennel when we went on vacation for a week. They were laid back and when we picked up our dog he was happy, unlike another place we used earlier this year. Night and day difference. My dog is immunized completely so we didn't have any problems with anything. He was healthy and happy. I would take him back again or recommend this place to friends and family. Welcoming property, clean too not like others I've seen lately around here. Be aware a going home bath is $50. Fifty! Yikes. We agreed to one before we realized how expensive it was. On top of almost $400 for the week. Going home bath should be complimentary. It was just a bath not a groom. read more

Recent new ownership has turned this place from a great place to an awesome place for our pet! The investment they have made to upgrade the facilities is beyond compare. Then add the benefits of the owners having real involvement in day-to-day activities and knowing the pets and owners alike is amazing. They have a real care for what they do and how they do it. The daycare areas are terrific for play indoors or out. Our pup had extreme separation anxiety any time we left the house for even brief periods of time. His days at The Barking Spot have allowed him time to socialize with other dogs and it provided a tremendous improvement on his disposition. We have used The Barking Spot for light grooming and boarding over a long weekend or two as well. They have excelled in every aspect. A recent visit our pup played a bit over zealous and was favoring a leg. They immediately called to make us aware, even though they didn't believe it to be anything too serious. When we arrived for pickup he was doing just fine - false alarm. But they cared enough to let us know. The process of signing up and making reservations is primarily done online via their website. This was a big change for us from the previous ownership, but it provides a clean, manageable way for them to operate their business and for us to get necessary updates - which makes it a big positive for all. Give this place a try a few times and see if your pet won't beg to go back like ours does each week, nearly fighting to get out the door and hop in the car. Our pup doesn't mind the vet at all, but when he goes he only whines as he realizes he's on a ride to somewhere other than The Barking Spot. read more

I recently boarded my 5 dogs here, and less than 1 week from picking them up, they started coughing. Never having dealt with kennel cough before (first time ever boarding them anywhere), I called and asked if there were other dogs that may have been sick. Paula (one of the owners) was rude and stand-offish, and basically told me that it happens, and that there were no sick dogs, and told me she would let their other clients know. She was not sincere, was not empathetic, and acted like I was offending her by calling. I decided to make a post on my local Facebook group. This was the post... "My dogs were boarded at The Barking Spot from May 5-10, and on Friday, two of them started coughing... yesterday, it was all of them. They are never around other animals, never go on walks (we live on a farm so they get plenty of exercise), never to dog parks, etc. I called the owner and she said no reports to her of any other dogs that are sick. I just want to let anyone know that may have had their dogs there, that they have been exposed to whatever it is that my dogs have (I am assuming kennel cough, but will know tomorrow when I take them to the vet)." At this point in time, I never even stated that the owner was rude, or that she completely blew me off. I kept it professional and didn't blame them at all. I simply wanted to let others know that their dog may have been exposed to an illness. Numerous people came forward with saying their dogs have also boarded there and recently been coughing, or shared similar stories about the attitude of the business owners. I sent the owner another message and asked if they would be able to help with the vet bills. A simple message back saying that it is a risk and that the dogs should all recover fine would have been welcomed, but instead, I got another phone call. I was yelled at by Don (Paula's husband and co-owner), not allowed to speak initially for 2-3 minutes, and threatened to be sued for libel, and threatened with a comment saying "this WILL be the last post you make about my business, or else." When I was finally allowed to speak, I tried to explain to them that I never said anything bad about their business, and was only trying to let other pet owners know that their dog has been exposed to an illness, and to watch them. Never once was Don or Paula calm or nice, and continued to try intimidation techniques and threats to get me to remove my post. The phone call ended because I had finally had enough. I received a message on FB messenger from Paula later in the night telling me how wrong I am and threatening me again with lawyers and libel. In one of these messages, she let it slip that there had been a dog last week that came down sick, and that they were being treated for kennel cough. When I pointed it out to her, she said that the owner didn't have a culture done so she basically didn't acknowledge it. She also told me that dog was in daycare and not boarding so they weren't around my dog. It was the same office, same entry and exit point, but no need to be concerned? One of my favorite comments from her is that they have boarded over "40 thousand pups in the last two years and have seen everything possible." I guess if you consider that true, rather than a gross exaggeration, they have boarded 46 dogs per night since January 1st of 2019 (since she also told me they bought the place in 2019). It's no wonder they can't keep on top of illness outbreaks within their facility. I will never board my dogs here again, and think their intimidation and fear tactics are unprofessional. read more

I've taken my dogs to the HM for almost thirty years. First I took my big lab/shepherd mix and my blue heeler for a total of 17 years, after which I grieved for seven. Then I was blessed with a honey-blonde, mostly chihauhua dog named Sam. I got him from the HM's program called Hannah's Rescue. Sam is a dog without faults of any kind. lol I love him so much, maybe too much because he tends to struggle with separation anxiety and I can't leave him anywhere.. EXCEPT AT THE HM! Whenever I take him over there, Sam never looks back at Mama .. Prisi or one of her workers, opens that gate by the front desk and Sam makes a beeline for the back. He loves it there. My lab and cattle dog did, too. Isn't that's what any dog-owner wants to see? read more

Under new ownership, now called Barking Spot. I have been a satisfied customer for 20 years but can say I will not be back. Forced to make reservations on line. We did that and got a e-mail asking for a 50% deposit. Never had to do that before. We had questions about the cost of bathing our dog for pickup so we called 3 days prior to the arrival reservation date, but no one returned our call. We showed up today to drop our dog for the weekend and they could not find our reservation in their computer system. One owner came out and said he e-mailed a cancellation notice, since they were full. I never received that e-mail but did get one asking for the deposit? We were left to find a new place at the last minute to board our dog. No apology ever given! I am a 20 year customer that will not be back! read more

I have a 5 year old English bulldog and TBS is the only place I will leave her. I don't allow family or friends to watch her because I am so overprotective and cautious of who care for her. Paula treat Olive like I do and cares so well for her. Paula even has pictures of dogs she takes care of hanging up around the building. We have taken our dogs here since Hairy Moose days, loved it then and love it even more now. Don and Paula have done an amazing job converting this place into a haven for dogs...cleaned it from top to bottom, expanded the entire facility, added amazing grooming services, REDUCED package prices compared to others on Hville and still have a genuine love for their business that isn't easily found these days. Therefore, I have to address the 1 stars on here. First of all if you give 1 star to this place you are 1) Never satisfied, 2) looking for a discount or 3) have never been to a bad doggie daycare. To give 1 star to Barking Spot is so far beyond unfair. I have seen the amount of time, money, sweat, blood, heart and love that the owners have put into this place and it is 2nd to none. This is NOT a 1 star facility and to give it 1 star is not only unfair to the owners but it's just as unfair to those people looking for a wonderful daycare for their pet. People rely on these reviews to select where they will go and because you didn't like 1 thing here and you think it's cool to just throw out 1 stars for reviews. NOT cool. What a great experience! Our dog had a skunk encounter on Saturday night and we were in dire need of some help. The Barking Spot got us in on Sunday and did an outstanding job! My two Welsh Terriers love staying at The Barking Spot. Don & Paula have done an amazing job cleaning up the property. Well tended buildings, facilities and interiors are a big improvement. Online check-in is seamless and creates good communication for booking and services confirmations. This was the first time our newest little Yorkie has been there to get groomed and will probably be the only time. I called and asked to make the appointment for him and she said because he was little , they could get him in the next day. We went and I told the groomer what we wanted and even showed her a picture! When we went to pick him up, he was virtually shaved and looked awful. My husband called and the her response was, "what did she expect at the last minute? And she should've brought us a picture." I didn't ask for an appointment the next day and I did bring a picture. Blaming the customer is a poor way to do business! I gave it to stars because the facility has been upgraded, is clean, and looks good. read more

Not professional at all since we had to cancel our trip due to a hurricane messed the hotel for our vacation, the hotel cannot open for our vacation. Called them the same day and told us we should have told them sooner. I will never take my dogs back. We use to use them from grooming and thought about day care for our dog. I found this gem of a pet adoption agency on Petfinder.com. Located in Gallatin, TN it can be quite the trek for a city gal or guy, but if you find the right little critter for you, then you have to give any place like it five stars! First off, the adoption fee is only $125. It includes a spay or nueter, shots, screenings and even a microchip! Swwweeeeet! They also go the extra mile and have the rabies tag and even a Hairy Moose Tag for the new additon to your life just in case you don't have a name plate yet. The pet application is pretty easy to fill out. You can do it online and send it in or there is a hard copy at the Moose. The staff is so nice and you can really tell they are passionate about animals. Everything they told me about my little Sanford is true. They knew his personality for sure so I was not suprised by anything once I got him home. Last but not least, a side benefit from adopting a pup: TAX WRITE OFF! :D read more

The dogs tails start wagging before we get to the office and they run to the door. They are even more excited when they go back to the kennels. The real beauty is the staff and grounds - there are so many things for the dogs to do, and the staff all love them so much. The grooming and nail trimming is awesome as well. And, they love all sizes - we have a 40 lb 'mutt', a 75 lb. lab and a 145 lb. Great Dane, and they aren't even sure they want to come home! read more

I took a tour of the new facilities, and I am so excited to bring my dog there, but she is more excited. The new building is clean, air conditioned and big. It is set up for dogs to go outside on cement and grass, shade and sun or to come in to the air conditioned play area. A staff member is there to play with them and supervise them. We moved to Nashville (Bellevue area) in 2004 and toured (and tried) boarding facilities in our area and in Brentwood. We weren't satisfied with any of them so we tried Hairy Moose on a recommendation from a friend. We haven't looked back. Despite the two-hour round-trip it's the only place we board our dogs. Our lab loved it there - they were caring, conscientious, and didn't tack fees on left and right. When she passed, we adopted two wonderful new dogs from Friends of Hannah Rescue (which is located at Hairy Moose), and they go back and visit often. Thirteen years later we're as satisfied as we were at the beginning. The team is made up of true dog people and we trust them implicitly. read more

Boarded my husky mix with them for several days and had her bathed. They took great care of her and she came home well-groomed and happy. The facility is clean and well-kept. They have great communication and were very helpful during the booking process. Drop-off/pick-up were quick and courteous. I'll happily board my dog with them again. Well we read all the reviews online and where surprised when we dropped off our dog. All the reviews were great, super, excellent. Not the case. We showed up and there was no one around. Dogs loose running every where , mangy would best describe them. After waiting around for about 20 mins someone finialy showed up at counter. Customer service not being the strong point but nice enough I suppose. Took our dog, drug her passed the loose dogs and put her in the kennel. Didn't like the place then but had a plane to catch and had to leave. Called them Saturday to arrange pick up on Sunday. 3 phone calls and messages and 5 hours later they called back. Showed up and same things dogs loose, less than average customer service, was told that our dog "didn't seem to like it there" and she had not eaten or gone the bathroom, in 4 days. No one there seems to care about anything, between the mangy dogs wandering around and the just plan don't care attitudes I think we will be looking somewhere else next time. I later found out it is more of a rescue pet adoption kennel than a true boarding kennel, would have been nice to know. read more

We moved here nearly 3 years ago and always nervous of finding a new place after living in many states and boarding our babies in different places, after a nightmare place we left our babies with when we first moved here that stated our dog was nervous so they gave him medication which I later heard same thing happened to someone else because this certain place didn't want dogs barking while they had others coming in throughout the day I was very nervous having to find another place and someone recommended The Hairy Moose, I knew right away that they actually cared for animals and weren't in it just for the $ because they had animals that they had taken in that would of otherwise been euthanized and that let me know right away they had Great hearts, I am shocked at some of these reviews because my babies are always happy when I drop them off and pick them up and that surely hasn't been the case over the years in the many other places I have boarded them, Now The Barking Spot Don and Paula are extremely friendly and are making lots of improvements around the place and it will take them time to get the hang of things but my babies loved staying there the past 7 days and they even sent me a picture text during our trip and it surely made my day that they took the time to do that, our Big Baby Lab/Shepherd is 3 years old and does not like to be bathed and groomed anywhere except home because of a traumatic experience somewhere else, I left strict instructions that if he at all showed any dislikes or aggression than to stop immediately and they took extra steps and time to Love on him throughout the whole process and called and let me know he did fine and he looked Great, Thank You Jennifer and Don and Paula and we look forward to many years of trusting you with our babies for both boarding and grooming xoxoxo BEAR AND MOLLIE, Scott and Lisa read more

We boarded our 2 year old English Bulldog, Max, for the first time ever last week at the Hairy Moose. When we originally got Max from his first family, we did so with the idea that we would never board him or leave him somewhere that he thought he would just be dropped and left. With family and friends unable to care for Max during a recent trip, we were forced to find somewhere we felt at ease with and could trust him with. Ms. Prisi, Annette and entire staff were absolutely awesome with him and patient with us knowing and addressing our every concern. They immediately treated Max as their own, phoned us and let us know of anything going on with him, how he was adjusting and more than putting our mind at ease while we were away. They learned of his allergies and addressed a concern and there were no other issues for the remaining days of our trip. I will not hesitate to take Max back to the Hairy Moose when needed again. He is a very high maintenance pet and they handled him with extreme care and love while we were away. Thank you Ms. Prisi and everyone. You are all the very best!! read more
