If I could give ZERO stars, I absolutely would! I brought my 10 month old puppy, Lightning to The Barking Dog on 2/22 for 8 days of boarding while our family went to Disney. Staff was instructed that Lightening eats 1 cup four times a day. We brought him with his own food, treats and his bed from home. He was a happy, energetic and most importantly healthy puppy when we left him. I checked up on him throughout the week and was told he was having a great time and eating well. So I was SHOCKED when I picked him up, only to find an emaciated, dehydrated and lethargic Lightning. He had clearly lost a lot of weight and had no puppy pep to even muster a proper hello. I asked for an explanation and told that he only grazed over his food over the week. Furious I demanded to know why I wasn't called or told of the issue the numerous times I called! We sent him with an unopened 15 lb bag of food and we discovered he had only received 1 cup twice a day and had eaten less than half of what was given. Rather than arguing I immediately took Lightning to the emergency veterinary hospital. Lightning lost 9 lbs in a week, was severely dehydrated, had a slight fever, his coat has dry and flakey, visible signs he'd had diarrhea, and no evidence of stool in his bowels. I can assure you I will never board there or likely anywhere ever again and will strongly discourage everyone I know from using The Barking Dog. Not only was my dog grossly neglected but they made no effort to correct or communicate the problem before or after pick up, instead they made endless excuses. The lack of care they gave Lightning is disgusting!

WARNING GRAPHIC PICTURE: I boarded my dog Feb. 20-25th. I also scheduled a grooming on the last day Feb. 25th. When I returned to pick my dog up I was horrified/shock to see the picture below was my dog's bottom. I was told when I picked her up she has a small red spot on her bottom and the groomer placed ointment on her bottom. Initially, I was thinking a small razor burn. I sat her in the car and noticed her bottom she could not sit she was in pain, she was also clearly bleeding. I walked back in and discussed that something is majorly wrong with my dog's bottom they nodded and said from the groomer it was the feces on her bottom and looked like it was there two weeks. Also agreed I should see a vet. I left in shock and just cried home. They let my dog sit in her feces and then blame me saying it was there for two weeks I am completely devastated. I DID NOT bring in my dog like this EVER. I went to the vet the next day who said she has never seen an dogs bottom like this unless it was an anal gland abcess. She said two things occurred, one she sat with her hair matted in her feces or she got groomed and scooted her bottom across the floor causing skin breakdown. However, she said the grooming had to be older than a day or two since the infection has spread up her tail. The vet said this is a very recent occurence. Note: she didn't get her grooming until the last day. At this time my dog is bleeding, screaming when she is toileted (the blood and screaming when toileted tells me she was completely neglected), in pain. Per vet, she diagnosed her with severe ulceration, skin infection, and inflammation. She was placed on antibiotic cream, oral antibiotics, she had to wear a cone of shame, steroid, probiotic. MULTIPLE vet visits. After the front desk tried to blame me I called the manager who said the same thing. I discussed this was not present when I dropped her off. She said well groomer said it was two weeks. Multiple questions followed: Is the groomer a vet? I was promised a free bath during boarding so this was not caught? She was screaming in pain/bleeding this went unnoticed by staff? Ultimately, I was transferred to general manager Karen Lombardi, stated it was missed because it was directly under her tail and was not visible. However, looked to be two weeks old. Again, displacing blame on a customer after completely gross care. Also asking is this part of medical history. In all I was reimbursed for ALL medical bills and her boarding. This was horrible care. I would NEVER send my animal here again.  PS I called the groomer myself she did indeed state it was matted with feces and looked like it had been there awhile.

Report card for the first day of Doggie Daycare

My dog absolutely loves doggie daycare here, it's her favorite place. (This is the first review I've written for Yelp, I couldn't stand that the only review for the Barking Dog was a bad one). After my puppy's first day of daycare here, they gave me a cute "report card" with a photo of her playing, a written description of how she did, and a list of the other dogs she played with. For daycare they use a rotating schedule of 20 minutes (supervised) playtime outside (with other dogs their size/temperament), 20 minutes playtime inside, and 20 minutes resting in a crate. Less expensive and more fun for the dog than a dog walker. Plus she gets lots of socialization with other dogs. The staff is very caring and knowledgeable. Our dog considers all of them her best friends. They also offer training classes at all levels, plus grooming. We have used both and had no problems. It's convenient to pick my dog up in the evening with her nails trimmed and/or just having had a bath. I have not boarded my dog here, but I have boarded my cat. Everything went well and it was less expensive than boarding her at the vet. I definitely recommend The Barking Dog for doggie daycare and training classes.

We searched the internet and found Top Dog Pet Sitting Service! This company were not only very responsive, including the owner, but they did an outstanding job in reassuring us that our puppy was in great hands! We started by making an account and profile on Chloe and it was so easy and user friendly! We then chose our time of day we wanted them to come and our preferences of how many times and how long we wanted the pet sitter to stay. When everything was booked, we met Cassandra and Alisha and Chloe loved them RIGHT away! That was something my husband and I really liked, is that the sitters who would be watching her, met her prior to us going away. All of this happened in a span of 2 weeks since our original plans of who would watch Chloe fell through. During the trip, Cassandra and Alisha were AMAZING! We received email updates with pictures after every bedtime visit (we chose 3 visits a day with just one update but you can customize to however you want!). Those pictures and updates are what got us through the week! It was great because the girls not only cleaned up fuzz and animal pieces from her toys, but also helped clean the containers that had her food in them. During that week, Chloe was on a special diet of chicken and rice as well as medicine and a powder probiotic. the girls did WONDERFUL with managing that entire situation. Jessica, the owner was also beyond amazing for getting back to us so quickly when it was the day before we left for our vacation and she had to be put on all of this medicine and special diet. This company was amazing and we will most definitely be using them again in the future and going to be requesting the same 2 girls since Chloe loved them so much! I cannot recommend this company enough for all of your dog sitting and pet needs!!! :)

One day at our vet he asked if they boarded cats, they gave us a pamphlet that was just dropped off and said The Whisker Haven had just opened up. We immediately called and asked to see the place. Trina was so great and understood why I would be nervous. Her place is strictly for cats so it is a nice and relaxing place for them. She showed us around and we even met her two cats that were there. Trina put so much thought and care into her place and it can be seen with all the little details I would never have thought of. I was so happy that we booked four days with her for the July 4th holiday. She asked if it was OK if she texted us updates, and of course, we were happy to get them! While we were away we received pictures and updates. Our Agnes was doing great and looked so happy and comfortable. When we showed up to pick her up, she didn't want to leave! She was walking around and enjoying the large cat tree that is near her large window in the back. She was so happy and enjoyed her time there. Trina also brushed her, which we were able to tell because she felt so nice and well taken care of. Surprisingly, we put her on the floor and she walked back into her "cat condo", ate, and went to sleep in the bed! This is truly the best place you could bring your cat. Trina cares for animals and is a true cat lover. She has thought of everything possible to make your cat's time there enjoyable. She even will give your cat their medication for a small fee, this was great because our cat needs a pill twice a day. We have already booked future dates because we feel she will be booked up once the word gets out! We highly recommended bringing your cat here. It is like an affordable spa vacation for your cat. I wish I could put into words how incredible ADG is, but no words could ever truly do it justice…read more My dog, Winnie, is a pretty needy pup. As a rescue who needed a full hip replacement and has a history of neglect, she has higher needs than the average dog. She's cautious about everything, but once she trusts you, she loves wholeheartedly. However, after Winnie's previous boarding and training experience resulted in neglect, I was incredibly hesitant and anxious about trusting anyone new with her. We were so fortunate that Angell MSPCA recommended ADG to us. Winnie is such a special dog, and as her mom, I want to give her the very best. From day one, ADG has gone above and beyond to earn not only Winnie's trust but mine as well. Even after spending so much time with them, they continue to show the same level of care, compassion, and professionalism every single day. One of the things that sets ADG apart is how attentive they are to every dog's individual needs. They don't take a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether it's training, daycare, or day school, they use current, science-based methods and tailor their care to help every dog succeed. It's clear that they truly understand canine behavior and are committed to setting dogs up for long-term success rather than simply managing them. They have always been incredibly accommodating and are willing to step in and help at a moment's notice. Every single staff member has been extraordinary. Knowing Winnie is loved, understood, and cared for as if she were their own gives me a level of peace I never thought I'd have after what we've been through. I truly cannot thank the entire ADG team enough. They have made such a positive difference in both Winnie's life and mine, and I will forever be grateful.

However, I was very surprised when I asked what a typical full daycare day actually looks like. I was told the dogs play for about 1 1/2 hours in the morning, are then crated for approximately 3 hours, play another 1 1/2 hours in the afternoon, and are then crated for another 3 hours. If they're still there around 5:00 p.m., they're taken outside for a potty break before pickup. For me, that was shocking. I completely understand that dogs need rest periods, but I wasn't expecting that the majority of a full daycare day would be spent in a crate. My dogs are rarely crated at home, so this wasn't the right environment for them, especially considering the cost. I'm sharing this because I think it's an important question that many people may not think to ask. Before enrolling your dog, ask exactly what a full daycare day consists of and how much time your dog will actually be playing versus being crated. That information made my decision immediately, and I chose not to leave my dogs there.

The inside was small, smelled awful, and there had to be at least 60 dogs crammed in there, with cages stacked and dogs locked up - despite their claim of being cage-free. It became common sense to me when I was told they get 60-80 dogs a day - there's no way all those dogs could be playing like they advertise. That's when I was dying to see the inside. When I finally did, I was shocked - it was just a small, open space room, sectioned off with no real room for the dogs to move. Now, imagine you're me, standing there, and you see most of the dogs stacked in cages, locked in with nowhere to go. It was truly shocking and sad, and I knew then that we were being lied to and cheated. Their so-called 'outdoor' space is a complete joke. If you drive around the back, you'll see it for yourself - just a narrow strip of asphalt parking lot. Now, imagine that already tight space cut up into even smaller sections, not even one whole area, just little blocks where dogs can barely turn around. Everything I've shared is true, and you can do the research and see it with your own eyes. After what I saw, we pulled our dog out of this place and forfeited our remaining package.
