I was one of the original Saltyclaws pet owners, when they first opened over 4 years ago. At that time, they were amazing. A family owned and operated business that really cared about our beloved dogs. I trusted them for well over 4 years, with my pack. I never blinked an eye when I was on vacation or needed a safe place for my dogs to go to.
Over the past two years, I have noticed visible changes in my 3 dogs with respect to Saltyclaws. Specifically, one dog refused to get out of my car if I stopped at Saltyclaws. He used to LOVE going there. -Not anymore! My other dog visibly shook, if I brought her there. When I brought up my concerns to Derek, he just brushed them off as me being an over concerned pet parent.
Why am I posting today? Because the owners tell you that there is always someone staying overnight while you board your dogs. I learned the hard way that this is a blatant lie! Last weekend, a friend of mine went to get her dog and the entire place had no lights on and the doors were all locked. Her dog was NOT being boarded!!! -She had dropped him off a couple of hours earlier, so she and her husband could shop and go out to dinner. As you can imagine, she was terribly confused and upset. She then called me, as I only live a mile away. I told her I would meet here there and see if we can get someone to give us her dog. I then called the owner (her phone number was on the answering machine message). She answered and told me that there was a girl inside and that it was past hours and that the person inside was scared to come to the door and then hung up on me. --- However, I could also see in the window where the huge computer monitor was. It had cameras in each room and all of the rooms were visibly dark and empty!! --The owner actually lied to me and then hung up on me!?
While trying to calm my friend down, about 20 minutes passed. All of a sudden the other owner named Derek came barreling into the parking lot, ripped his car in park and ran up to me screaming to "Get the F* Out Of Here!" --I was actually in fear of my life! I had not spoken to him prior, so I had no idea why he was being so combative with me. He then went at my husband in the same manner and tirade. I never raised my voice and only asked him to please give us her dog, so we could leave. -He then admitted to my friend that in fact, no one was inside. That his mom (the owner) had called him. He then gave his passenger the keys and he opened the doors. His friend then came out with the dog and I told Derek that this dog will never be back at Saltyclaws again. Derek got back in my face and was screaming all sorts of things, again. --it was awful. Never have I been in such a horrid situation. Thankfully I had my husband and my two friends there. All they wanted as their dog.
The whole reason people board their dogs is to know that they are safe, monitored by a human and well cared for. This is what they promised me. However, they left all of those dogs unattended. -What if there was a fire? What if a dog got its leg stuck in the wire crates and freaked? What if a dog bloated? I trusted them and they lied to me, many times over.
Bottom line....This used to be an A+ place. I trusted them with my 3 dogs for over 4 years. Something has gone terribly wrong and I will never subject myself or my dogs to them ever, ever again. Please be aware and be informed. Your dogs can't tell you when something is wrong. ---Trust me, my dogs tried!

Specifically, I was promised 24 hour care, of my dogs! Over the past 4 years, I was never told that this policy had changed. That they leave the dogs alone in that warehouse building. Had I known, I would never have allowed my dogs to board at Saltyclaws! I find this deceitful and dishonest. "We offer convenient hours and have 24-hour caregivers on site for boarding pets." ---I was misled and that makes me very upset. I feel bad for the other dog owners.

Jenn Dean was NOT there, the night this happened (as she states she was in Nashville). For her to make accusations that my husband and myself "clearly drinking", is slander!!! Also, please know that I removed my dogs from Saltyclaws based on severe temperament changes, I witnessed and stated above. -I was not "banned" from this establishment, like she states in her comment. This is her way of trying to bring doubt into my post. Jenn is posting SECOND HAND information (from her son Derek), that is untrue. I am actually shocked at her entire comment.
