I noticed these groomers only minutes from my house, and made the mistake of taking my dog there. If you've ever seen a Giant Schnauzer, you'll note that the cut of their hair is very distinctive. These are the classic sleuthing and police work dogs that have black fur, pointy ears, and wear a long, angled beard. Somewhat like a giant scotty dog. It was my naivete that allowed me to bring my dog in and just request a "classic giant schnauzer cut" (unaccompanied by glossy photos or an instruction manual). But it was their mistake not to ask questions or look online, and ineptly shave her down to the coat length of a Labrador. She went in needing a routine wash and trim. She came out a shorn creature with 100% less panache & dignity in her profile. I don't care if she is secretly a giant goofball, she doesn't need to LOOK like one. It took her 2 years to grow a traditional schnauzer beard, and the groomers at Petsmart have been great at sculpting & encouraging it. To add to this, there was a large pink clipper mark on the outside of her thigh, which indicated a good nick/scratch during the grooming. When I went to pick her up, they said, "she had a lot of mats in her beard, so we had to cut it off." Um, that's what a brush is for. She often has a few mats from regular play, but she is groomed on schedule & her coat brushed out regularly. Not a hard luck case. From my impression of their other furry clients, the owners coming & going with their Pekingese & Cockers seemed satisfied. I've learned a disappointing lesson at this grooming salon though, and will not be returning. read more

Mr. Pethie, the miniature poodle, has been a client of Shannon's for nearly 9 years. Pethie can be a difficult little guy to work with Shannon knows how to work and handle him. He always comes home looking beautiful. This time I wanted his hair left long because of how cold it has been and he looks ready for showing with his new do. I have been bringing my dog and two cats to Four Paws for many years. The staff is wonderful and caring. In fact, Shannon recognized the symptoms of thyroid disease in my older cat before the vet did. My dog is a high strung terrier mix and they manage him superbly. read more

You will not find a more caring a loving shop to bring your dog. We have a rescued Great Pyrenees. Very big, very fluffy! Miss Pearl came home to us as calm as could be and fell asleep. She loved Shannon and her staff. We did a trial brush out only and my gosh she looked great. We are pleased to have a wonderful place to bring our girl since grooming her is mandatory. read more

I had read the reviews and don't understand why you gave the review you gave but , I am extremely happy there Ive been going for a couple of yrs there and they are so accommodating and when calling last minute because of a smelly situation, there's no hesitation what so ever , they say bring him right in.. They really are great. I have a border collie and he looks like a show dog by the time he's done especially that tail of his....I wanted to write this because I dint think the review i just read was just 1 opinion people need to see what others experiences are..I also have a friend who loves her dog like as much as a child , so i knew that when she recommended four paws they must be caring to animals...one of the groomers own I think 4 or 5 of her own, So enough said.. So anyone looking I would give them the opportunity to show you how good they are. read more

So incredibly disappointed in the service from today. We brought our miniature schnauzer in for her third grooming. It hadn't been an extended amount of time since her last visit, which we were slightly disappointed with. When I picked her up I got the "she had a lot of mats in her beard and she's really fresh when we try to do her face so we had to shave it". I thought to myself it couldn't be that bad, but she came out I wanted to cry. Her face was completely shaved, her distinct eyebrows were completely uneven and she had a big nick from the clipper on the top of her head. She looked absolutely pathetic. My problem is this: I am paying you to do a service, that service is to clean and groom my dog to the best of your ability. You mean to tell me you've never had a terrier puppy before who is easily excited and a little high strung? If you can't do the service that I want, tell me! I would have much rather left work and picked her up than her look the way she does. When my husband called to explain his disappointment she actually said, "Well I didn't want her to go home like that either". Try explaining that one.... Needless to say we will not be bringing our pup back, I'll let you know when her lovable, breed-defining beard grows back....so sad. read more

Terrible service! I brought my kitty there for a complete grooming. They had him from 8 AM to 2:30 PM. I asked them to shave his tail because of the mats in addition to the regular package. When I picked him up he was mangled looking. He had patches of hair missing!! His back legs were trimmed terribly. It was a complete hack job and he was shaking probably from abuse. In addition to the terrible shaving they cut his tail and he has a scab now. They stopped there and didn't even wash him or blow dry him! 60$ wasted.. I will be calling for a refund DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ! read more

We've sent them 2 heavily matted cats, which we fully expected them to have to shave, but they were able to get the mats out without the cats looking like they were missing any fur. Sending them our new dog this coming week! read more

I have been bringing my pets here for the past 8 years and have always been happy with their work. I love the little bows they put on and the care they take in cutting the nails. I took my shepard mix to another salon out of convenience one time and they forcefully held her down and tried to muzzle her...she was afraid to go to the groomers for months after this. But Four Paws has take such good care of her that she willfully goes when I bring her and is so happy and excited when I pick her up! read more

Beware of the Butchers at FOUR PAWS ONLY in DRACUT, MA My twelve year old Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier was brought in for second summer clip as a Wheaten's coat is wooley. His coat started to slightly grow in from end of May to August 25. I asked that he be clipped not shaved. When I picked my wheaten up he was shaved and he had 3 slits on his back that were bleeding 2 were very deep. One looked like teeth marks but what really happened is the groomer used a razor and cut off 3 growths on my wheatens back. One gash you could see the tendon inside. I paid $100 to have my dog go through pain and trauma at the FOUR PAWS BUTCHERS with the phooney sweet voices when you call their voicemail 978- 957 -7387 BEWARE DONT BE FOOLED as I am reporting them all over town. In addition they will charge you 25 dollars if you are 5 minutes late past 5:00 - In this economy I advise you to shop around and get competent groomers who are responsible and cautious . If you care about your pet , I advise dont use the butchers at FOUR PAWS ONLY OF DRACUT MA.. PLEASE NOTE: If they find that your dog is matted, they will shave and charge you more without checking with you first. So disappointed in the service and reasoning to why my Shi Tzu was covered with bald (with razor burns) in at least three locations. They didn't feel as though they should have called me to ask if it was okay to shave him and didn't think to tell me when I picked him up that when I turned him onto his side he would have a massive bald spot or that when I scratched behind one ear he would have a bald spot there as well. Very unprofessional in my opinion. Please be sure you know in advance what will be done. Do not assume anything. Also, I brushed and combed my 8 month old puppy every night and had a hard time believing that he was that matted. read more
