I told her it was my first time in, and she seemed very pleased with that. They were playing good music (classic rock) which created a nice atmosphere. The decor is mostly Joliet and Chicago centric, though I didn't have the feeling I was in a sports-centric place like some chain competitors, and I thought it was cool that they had a lot of local knowledge in the room there. I mean, a Frank Lloyd Wright book was on the coffee table in the waiting area. Old-school comfortable barber chairs, like you don't find in today's salons. One nice thing about this particular barber was she didn't move the chair at all while I was on it. I'm not sure if it was on purpose or not, but I noticed it. Way more comfortable than some of the people that seem to whip you around on those things. She also didn't invade my "space" like most seem to do. You get the neck shave at the end with a hot towel, which is also a rarity these days and a nice touch. It was $23, which may be a little higher than some in the area for a men's cut. I feel like I got my money's worth here. It's one of the best cuts I've gotten in a long time, for sure in this town.

Since I have let my hair grow out for a bit longer than normal, the girl taking care of me had to use a trimmer to take some of the hair down. Which, was a good touch. Then, she took her time shaving my head. It was a pretty legit shave. I was dozing in and out with how relaxed I was. Talked tattoos, which, is always good. Then, I got my beard lined up. All in all, it was a very good experience. However, even after getting in the barber chair the proper way...I ended up stepping on the foot rest. I got chided. Besides not paying attention at the end and stepping off the rest, place was definitely a good spot. Oh, and, by the time I was leaving the shop definitely had a good few customers in it.

All the stylists are incredibly nice, talented, and up-to-date on the latest styles. They all attend hair shows and still take classes, which I LOVE! I recently got the shilac non-chip manicure done also and love it! My favorite stylist is Jen Arias. Honestly, I have been going to her for years and have trusted her with my locks under the most extreme occasions, even when I was undergoing chemotherapy. She has been there for me through thick hair and thin hair, very short hair, and very long hair. She was there for me on my sister's wedding day and my wedding day with nine bridesmaids when the salon was supposed to be closed. She's been there when I went through a divorce and needed to feel good again. She recommends the best and right products and gives me the best cuts for my hair type. After chemo, my hair grew back thick and curly thanks to Jen. Also, Jen is a miracle worker when it comes to color. She is the color queen! In my experience, my hair does not hold color well due to the medication I am on. However, Jen uses a combo of tones to give my hair this awesome, red velvet RED. There is not a day that goes by that I don't receive compliments about my gorgeous, luscious RED hair. Recently, Jen cut about 10 inches of my long thick hair off and completely changed my old look to an updated chic inverted bob that I can wear straight or luckily, curly! We also like to play with my color a bit. Yes, it is still an awesome shade of RED, but with chunky deeper red low-lights. It is GORGEOUS and SUPER CHIC! I have been getting even MORE compliments everywhere I go, and everyone wants to know who does my hair. I have had to write the salon, their phone number and Jen's name down on the back of my business card for people I don't even know! Jen is kind, beautiful, talented, and takes her career seriously. She helps give me confidence, by making me look good and feel good about myself. I will always trust Jen with my self-esteem and my hair. :)

Very disappointed. I usually try to frequent small businesses and help them but I can't help this…read moretime. Second time here. First time had an acceptable experience but this time was terrible. Asked for a shave. Was supposed to be 30 minutes. It was about ten. I paid her a ten dollar tip on a twenty dollar shave. Got home and ran my hand over my face. She missed my jaw line completely. She missed one of my cheeks. She missed under my nose completely. I spent thirty dollars on a shave and went home and had to shave myself again.

I actually chose this salon because of the reviews I read here, and I'm SO glad I did!! I was changing my hair big time (it was down to the middle of my back, dead at least to my shoulders and I wanted to get it to blonde from the red it was *unnatural manic panic blood red*, and I knew how hard it was going to be to try and lift that color out without my hair turning completely orange) and I needed someone that would listen to what I wanted and do it RIGHT. Melissa is that person! I called on Thursday and spoke to Melissa, telling her all of this, and she made me an appointment for that Saturday afternoon and cleared her schedule for the rest of that day. I could not be more happy with the way my hair turned out!! She did her best to lift out the red, and she ended up bleaching out as much as she could, and in the end we decided to leave what was bleached and have light pink streaks throughout the rest of my hair, it turned out kinda like a reverse ombre, and I LOVE it!! I showed her a picture of how I wanted it cut, and she did it BETTER! I wanted it very short in the back, longer strands on the sides and cute side bangs in the front. Most salons boast that they are up to date on the latest cuts and styles when they definitely are not, all they know are layers and straight edges. Melissa understood exactly what I wanted, and the fact that certain cuts are SUPPOSED to be uneven, whether it be the back, sides, bangs etc. Now that I have found Jagged Edge, I will not go anywhere else, and will recommend this salon to everyone that I know! I really love Michelle as a stylist, I had her do my hair 4-5 years ago and remembered her since…read morethen... but I couldn't remember her name. I was finally able to find her again through Diva's Facebook page and I'm so glad. I booked a haircut and full highlight, wanting to go back to my natural color so my hair could continue to grow and be healthy. I didn't realize I should have booked for a color correction, but Michelle moved her clients around to give more time to do my hair. I would have been more than understanding to reschedule, but thankful she was able to fit me in! One of the other ladies was amazing as well running to the store to get more product for my hair. It doesn't look like a huge change, but this was removing box color from my hair so it could better match my roots and a treatment to prevent damage. I am also not a huge talker and shy during appointments like this, but it didn't feel awkward at all and I had a chance to just enjoy being pampered and relax. Overall, I'm so grateful Michelle and the ladies were so accommodating and understanding with me. There wasn't frustration even for a split second. I will continue coming back to Michelle and recommending Diva's to everyone!
