My family and I really enjoyed our dinner here on our most recent trip. We came here after all the…read moreother restaurants in Jim Thorpe were closed. I walked by earlier in the day, and thought it looked like a cozy stop. We have 2 young kids so the back patio was perfect, especially with some nice fall weather. My son ordered the mini cheeseburgers and he loved it. My daughter went with the quesadilla and she didn't totally love it. But it was because of the spicy black beans. I ordered the pulled pork sliders, and they were great. The restaurant ran out of fries so we all went with a side salad. My partner got the grilled steak. He's a steak snob but said it was really delicious. There was significant gristle on the steak, but our kids ate it up! We were glad this place was open. And our server was really friendly. We'd come back.

We asked for a table, but they were full inside and asked us if we were ok with sitting outside. Luckily it wasn't cold and the private seating in the back was totally fine. We opted for another starter instead of the mussels which was what brought us in. We got the shrimp bruschetta and forgot to take a photo. We were really looking forward to it, and were entirely thrown off when it came out and had Balsamic all over it, as the menu did not disclose that and we are not balsamic people. I got the shrimp/andouille sausage which I was really excited to try, but disappointed with it when it came out. It didn't taste bad by any means, but it tasted as if all parts of the dish were cooked separately and that the flavors didn't all intertwine and talk to one another. My fiancee got the Sierra fries for himself which is actually on the shareable side of the menu. It was only the two of us, and he opted to eat this for his entree himself, but this dish is meant to share for a lot of people. He really enjoyed it. I had some of the seasoned fries, and thought it was tasty. Service was fine and our waiter was very friendly, however they were definitely slow. We placed our order quickly, but our appetizer took forever to come out. We watched people who got seated well after us get their apps/entrees before we even got our app. Our app was pretty messy too, and they didn't provide us small plates. Given how long it took to get the app, we just ate it without asking them to right this wrong. I did see the waiter from the corner of my eye come out with these plates, well after we had finished the dish. The wait staff seemed to be really rushed this evening and messing up a bunch; we overheard them continuing to apologize at a table nearby. Another time, we witnessed a waiter almost trip up the steps as he was rushing to come back to our table. As we were leaving, that same waiter rushed up the steps with entrees in hand and tripped and fell, dropping all the food on the ground. It was awake for sure... Rating this a 3 because it was extremely pricey food for not high quality taste and a different service experience than we were expecting.

After having our GPS take us a ways around we got to Union Publik House and there were regulars in there already. There's a few tables and we were greeted warmly and since we were a group of five, took the larger table in the back by the kitchen. Our server was also friendly and helpful. He recommended the burgers but said just about everything we would order would be good and he was right. My wings were big and tasty, the burger we ordered was cooked as requested, the Ceasar salad was good but the chicken add-on was a bit overdone and dry, the other salad with add-on salmon was a nice big piece of fish that was quickly eaten, and the BBQ sandwich my kid had was gone in what seemed like seconds. We started with some mozzarella sticks which were fine, the pirogies were better than fine, and the homemade chips with salsa were also quickly eaten. Drinks were canned sodas at $3 each and I also had an unsweetened ice tea for the same price. I think you'll also like UPH for your lunch or dinner. We'd come back. $125 total including tax and tip for five people.

When we arrived, we were told they had accepted a bus tour group and could only accommodate us by splitting up our party. We chose to sit at the bar so we could stay together and still spent nearly $500 at the restaurant. Despite that, they refused to refund the $20 reservation hold they had described as refundable. We showed up and honored our reservation. The restaurant failed to provide the table, yet somehow we were the ones left paying for it. The issue isn't just $20. It's the complete lack of accountability and basic customer service. Keeping that $20 cost them our future business. We will absolutely not be returning. Should have listened to the reviews. Shame on us.

The food is very portioned, and don't let that fool you because it fit into the right atmosphere especially when you're eating at 6-7-8 at night you would like to enjoy your food and not feel so stuffed after walking out of there the food was very delightful It's perfect for a date night or if you're gonna meet with a group of friends and you just want a different atmosphere where the music is not loud and you're able to talk. The murder mystery itself was the highlight, the storyline was engaging, and the actors were clearly well-trained in improv and very kind. Murder Mystery: 8/10 The room was fairly standard, what you'd expect in an old-timey house. No TV or modern extras, but there were plenty of charging outlets, which was appreciated. Room: 7/10 The food during the stay was incredibly disappointing. Most of it felt like reheated microwave meals. Breakfast included eggs, bacon (very thin, broken pieces), cubed potatoes that were oddly watery, ham slices, stale danishes, cereal cups, and a parfait option that had run out by our 9am time slot. Dinner was similar in quality. I chose the cheese ravioli, but despite being second in line, it was cold. The same watery potatoes from breakfast were served again, along with green beans. The only highlight was the coffee, which was good. Food: 2/10 Unfortunately, the parking situation is very poor. There are only 5-6 spots directly outside and a few more up the hill behind the carriage house. I was dropped off at check-in and informed staff that my boyfriend would be arriving late. I was assured there would be parking available and that staff would be present 24/7 to assist him. However, I woke up to a call from him saying he couldn't find parking. I went downstairs to get help, but no staff could be found. Not wanting to disturb other guests, I eventually gave up, and he had to park on the street in the neighborhood on top of the hill overnight. At breakfast, we were briefly told about additional parking behind the carriage house, but there was no apology or acknowledgment of the issue from the night before, nor any attempt to make it right. Parking: 1/10 The staff overall seemed inexperienced and, at times, unprofessional. While I empathize with younger staff members, there were several uncomfortable moments--such as hearing an employee joke about "killing" another staff member over a small mistake, and staff walking away mid-conversation while we were trying to ask follow-up questions. Staff: 4/10 Overall, there were some enjoyable elements, especially the murder mystery, but the experience didn't quite match the price point. With a few key improvements, this could be a much more worthwhile stay.
