This is a dive bar with friendly staff and the bartender will hook you up if she's in the right mood. My bf wanted a few beers tonight but we didn't want to stray too far from home. There is ample parking and once inside you will see pool tables, electric darts, and a juke box. Patio is a good size too. They also have karaoke here, tonight they didn't sadly and I cannot remember which day in the week they have it, definitely call and ask if interested. The last time we came it was so entertaining lol The crowd is diverse which I like, you will see people of all ages and backgrounds and most people that come through are really friendly, it is easy to make friends here! Also, there is a tall gentleman that usually mans the bar I wish I remembered his name but he's very accommodating, he will walk around the entire bar and make sure to ask everyone if they're doing ok or if they need anything, the hospitable gesture is much appreciated. So since I live in the vicinity I do have a few dive bars to choose from and if I had to choose. I would definitely pick THE BAR there is a much better vibe here. read more

What a shame to not have the brain power wasted on not valuing a diamond in the rough being a asset to an industry not worthy of supporting true character in a not real environment. If you want to get drugged, then look no further than "The Bar"... girls, be careful no matter what bar you're at, but be extra cautious here. There are other local bars around that are safer. I had my iPhone completely by a security guard Donavan , than kicked me out while my first n only drink waited for me inside for wanting answers and compensation. They 86d me for a day till I told them exactly what happened they checked the computers seen everything that transpired and said they'd get back to me and never did. Things were fine for a few weeks I'd come back pretend like nothing happened, and have been targeted by staff both security and a bartender named John. From giving security false information to find a way to kick me out, to blatantly not serving me a drink even when me and a handful of other people were even tryna pay for me. The last time I came back I rolled a blunt was gonna smoke in the patio have a drink n leave, like people were already doing in the back when security said I had drug paraphernalia making me sound like an addict saying I can't even come in the bar on John's directions. I'd like to talk to the main person about compensation for the broken phone and for this incredibly stupid and completely avoidable situation I've found myself in. I previously patronized The Bar at 4542 North 1st Street because my favorite professional bartender was employed there. My favorite bartender remembers my usual drink and the way I like it mixed. She always calls me by name, so she's more personal and friendly. She provides the highest standard of customer service and I never have to wait to be served. The Bar is very clean when she's on duty too. Her personality and demeanor are always upbeat which seems to be a positive influence and transforms my depressed moods to a more cheerful state of mind. However, I was very disappointed when she was recently laid off. Therefore, I can't recommend The Bar to potential customers, and I will follow my favorite professional bartender wherever she's employed. read more

The bar tender Name John was so unprofessional he had would ignore certain people at the bar and had me and others waiting for about 15 minutes and never asked if we needed a drink while we were standing there. In just a few months that I have been going to The Bar and The Next Bar, my experience at these two bars was very pleasant due to one bartender who is phenomenal, she had been bartending, from what I was told, been tending two bars for five years. You see I have not been in bars for almost 20 years. I told myself these are not the kind of bars I would spend time on. But this one bartender had convinced me to come in and have a cold drink. I have been in many bars in my time of travel for 30 years through In the military services, I've been retired for 20 years and do not trust bars in Fresno. However, I have trust in the one bartender who had welcomed me to these two bars where she had worked and now had been unjustly terminated. What a shame. The manager or owner of these two bars should be replaced, not the bartender. The bartender that had been let go, knows more about bartending than most of them. I know, I observed her, that she is Always tentative to all customers and made me and others feel welcome like you are part of her family. With her infectious smile and her willingness to make sure that all are served with the utmost care, she made it fun, Enjoyable, and pleasing to be there. With her attention to detail and professionalism. She works very hard at doing her job. I now go where she bartends and will never step foot in these two bars again (their loss, her gain,) read more

It was Monday and my crony had an evening softball game. Together we decided that there'd be no better way to warm up for the big game at Granite Park than indulging in some cold, consumptuous adult beverages. So, at his suggestion we met at the BAR on Southeast corner of Gettysburg and First. This would be my first time at this juke joint. Being a punctual mother trucker I arrived before my bud and sat out in parking lot. I don't know how parking is on "busy" nights but on this Monday, there was more than enough spots to go around. After my friend finally showed up we went in and grabbed a spot at the bar. As we pulled chairs out the bartender greeted us, introduced herself as Lisa and gave me a frosty Modela. Gotta warm up for the game! Warming up sometimes means I gotta use the el bano. The bathroom was what was to be expected from a bar which meant it smelled like pee, had tagging on wall (some guy named "Flakr") and a floater from the fine young chap before me (prolly Flakr). Oh, there was a nice automatic dispenser for anyone who suffers from OCD and doesn't want to touch those nasty manual dispensers. Me? I'll use my pants because that's just how I roll on Mondays. Lisa, the bartender, was good stuff. She seemed like a vet. She made sure all her patrons drinks were flowing, bar top was dry and she pseudo laughs at jokes (which I'll always welcome). The beer was cold and some old timer kept playing Golden Oldies which one can never go wrong with. If it weren't for just needing to stretch before the big game, I noticed there was cool stuff to do! There were two electric dart boards with the legit toe lines on ground (gotta watch the toesies). Several pool tables were scattered around. Luckily for my buddy we didn't have time for me to bury him in a game o' billiards. I saw lots of booths which are good for larger groups (or if you just don't want to be next to anyone). And many o' televisions were spread about the place with sports playing. In the end, we were able to warm up for the game real well at the BAR. The only two negatives I can say about my experience with the BAR are; I asked for no garnish and she tossed them in my drinks anyway and secondly because we warmed up too well I believe my friends game was terribly effected because he was just a little toooo stretched out. read more

Do not use a card to pay for your drinks here. All four of my purchases over several weeks changed from what was written to a higher amount.

First things first, please know that I'm down for dive bars and not a snob at all about going to them. They have a great combination of cheap drinks, laid back atmospheres, and always fun for people watching. While I did have a good time at the Bar, there were issues that couldn't make it more than 2 stars even by dive bar standards. My biggest problem with this place is it just smells. It officially wins the prize for smelliest bar I have ever been to and that is quite a feat. The worst part is that it is a lingering smell. Even after getting nice and buzzed, I still couldn't get used to the smell. The main attraction that drew my friends and I was the karaoke. I wouldn't call myself a karaoke connoisseur but unless the establishment was actually a karaoke bar, I've never had to pay for karaoke AT a bar. Usually the bars that host karaoke will just let people sign up to sing. Here at THE bar, there's is a karaoke set up with the juke box, so you have to purchase songs (cash only FYI) if you want to sing. There isn't a book you can look through for songs so you'll have to look for everything on the jukebox which seems to be more of a hassle IMO. All in all, the drinks were cheap and once the karaoke (and drinks) got flowing, it was a really a good time. Would I go again? Sure. Would I ever suggest to come here on my own accord? This isn't my favorite bar in town, but it's close to where I work, so I stop by now and then. It's sort of a biker bar and most of its regulars are male. I normally stop by the Chinese restaurant a few doors down beforehand, b/c you are allowed to bring food. There's free popcorn. I once brought a date here. Naturally, all the sixty-something year old biker guys were asking what her name was, trying to make her smile, etc. We didn't have a second date (basic lack of chemistry) but, in retrospect, I should have stuck with Teazer's. Another time, I was eating my Chinese food, and this group of biker guys walk in like they own the place. The leader walked over to the jukebox and selected "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk. This Local Dive Bar is a fun place to go where everybody knows your name. Literally. Bartender Hailey is the sweetest most lovely most awesomest bartender ever. She takes the time to make custom drinks and they are always delicious! I am a beer drinker but occasionally I get bored of beer and I want to try something new and Hailey always comes clutch with the new drinks. I tell her what I am feeling and she either knows a drink or she will create one. I have been a HUGE fan and regular of The Bar as well as their sister bars, The Next Bar and The Other Bar. I moved here a year ago from Florida and The Bar was my first stop getting off my plane. Since then I've always felt welcomed and appreciated. Even got a balloon from one of the bartenders when she found out it was my birthday lol. Once you become a regular you become family :). And yes like any other bar in the world their gonna have their off days, the creepers will show up, people will get into fights, etc. But its a bar. What do you expect. Shit happens. A bar that lives up to its faux nonchalant name. Although the name "the bar" would have you believe there is some cleaver theme to its nonchalance, there certainly is nothing special about this bar. The bartenders are welcoming and friendly, the prices are very reasonable and there tvs for sports or whatever you feel like (yes, the bartender will actually put something on for you if you ask). Went here last night with my cousin and boyfriend and ended up playing more games of pool and ordering more drinks than we intended. Pretty laid back chill spot where we pretty much listened to music, threw darts, and played pool all night. Drinks were not watered down like other reviews I read and bartender was super friendly.
