The Sun's news section is how a newspaper is supposed to be: unbiased reporting of local, national and world news, with no attempts to change viewers' political beliefs (take note, Washington Post...). Unfortunately there's not enough of it, probably for financial reasons and having to keep a small staff to remain viable. Which is a shame, because if they had the resources of a larger paper, with their focus on neutral and unbiased reporting I think they would be one of the nation's top newspapers. The rest of the paper is equally thin but great at what they do have. The subscription is worth it alone just for the Friday Weekend section that lists all kinds of activities going on around Baltimore, that I don't know where you can find anywhere else. read more

Unable to cancel my subscription after months of trying. Customer service doesn't respond when you call, and email responses have been unhelpful. They say they can't find my account, but when I log onto the site it says I have an active subscription. It's not clear how often I'm still being billed - digging through my credit card records I haven't seen anything recent, but the ambiguity is stressful and cancelling should not be this difficult. I am writing this review on behalf of my 90 year old mother whose husband recently passed at 96 after a long battle with dementia. In reviewing my parents' finances, I became aware that the Baltimore Sun has been criminally over-charging them for paper subscription services, likely for many years. Since November 2024, the Sun has been charging my parents $250 per month for subscription services, an increase from the already outrageous price of $170 per month for the prior year(s)!! Thats $9 per day!!!! Meanwhile, the intro price is $6.99 per week. This type of behavior, especially against elderly people managing chronic health conditions, is predatory, criminal and shameful. They subscribed for 60 + years. I am all for local print media these days, but if this is your business model, you don't deserve to be in business. Shame shame shame on you Sun Paper. Shame. Honestly, It makes me feel ashamed to be from Maryland. They did a promotion in the supermarket where they ask for your credit card and they supposedly were giving a free food gift card. They stated it was for weekend deliveries and you could cancel anytime. I called to cancel before payment and paper delivery was made, they use people overseas to answer calls , and the person acts like they don't understand what your saying. They have taken money off my credit and never provided any service to me. A true Rip off. I am cancelling that credit because of their theivry for such a small amount of money. The Baltimore Sun is more scam than news outlet. In order to read the end of the article, they entice readers with a deal: $1 for 26 weeks! Regret sets in as soon as you click the button. The article provides little to no additional information and you are left searching for a real news source to get the full story. This disappointment and distraction allows you to forget that $1 charge (just as they'd hoped). Months later, upon reviewing your credit card charges, you notice $21.21 charged from Baltimore Sun Subscription, and it's only then that you realize this has been going on for months. When you dig for an account, it seems they have no record of your phone number, address, or account to log into. When you call, they inform you of their "no refund policy," and appear surprised when you push for the subscription to be canceled. Make sure you ask for a confirmation number as it seems they can just "have no record of your calling" and refuse a refund of subsequent charges, because as they'll remind you, they have a no refund policy. read more

I recently signed up for a short-term subscription for the paper. The gentleman who was offering a promotion for the subscription advised that the Baltimore Sun is trying to keep the paper in business. Delivery did not start right away, so had to call customer service to find out what the issue was. Customer Service is contracted out to a foreign source in another country. Each time I spoke with one of the representatives, the interaction was rude, and lacked diversity, empathy and courtesy. Once I discovered that a once local newspaper was too cheap to hire local citizens to represent the newspaper with service issues, I decided to cancel my subscription. I tried several times to cancel the subscription, but I was never successful in doing so. So I expected the traditional daily paper, and instead only received it twice a week with the weekend issue. Times have changed. The newspapers were thin and lacked many of the features from years gone by, much to my disappointment. And to add salt to the wound, the push was to read the content online on the internet. Never again will I subscribe to this service. I would not recommend anyone subscribing to this newspaper. Screw this company. They use bait and switch tactics to get money from potential subscribers. I agreed to a 3 month promo with a monthly option after. They billed me $50.16! You cannot resolve this online, must call their customer service (can only cancel via phone as well). Now the Baltimore sun is solely used for Clickbait for advertisement, you can't read, not one Baltimore sun article anymore without being proposed for an advertisement and you cannot read the article unless you give them your information. The Baltimore Sun is a horrible company to do business with. The news and sports sections are relatively brief and superficial in their reporting. But my main concern is the lack of customer service. They are completely unresponsive to subscribers. When a subscriber calls, it is difficult to wade through the layers of the automated system. When a real person answers, they provide responses that are obviously scripted. When you ask to speak to someone else, they refer you to the main phone number which brings you back to thyye automated system. The newspaper is equally non-responsive to online requests. I may be a little partial to the sun but definitely enjoy the Papers presence online and off. Boasting a host of sections including the midnight sun about nightlife in Baltimore, the stories are relevant, timely and informative. This is the WORST company!! Customer service is horrible. Phone selection is a joke. IF you are ABLE to speak with someone, they WILL not speak credible English! If you call with a complaint, you will be hung up on. Spent 45 minutes today to cancel subscription. I was hung up on 4 TIMES!!! The first man spoke broken English, I had to keep asking him to repeat himself. I asked for his name, he didn't give it. Told him we didn't get Wednesday paper, or Saturday's or Sunday's. All I got was Uh huh. Told him we were promised a paper by that afternoon (each day!) NEVER GOT ONE, MUCH LESS THREE. When you call about paper problems, they say they'll extend your subscription for another day. Asked why can't I have that amount deducted, nope, can't do it, and which point you'll be disconnected!! Called the second time, a woman answered, broken English also, then click, hung up on AGAIN. 3rd time, called again, spoke to a woman, who also spoke broken English. Asked for a supervisor, have no idea what she responded, told her I didn't understand her, could I just speak to a supervisor. She told me, "I help." Sigh... Asked her if she could tell me the name of the first man I spoke to, she said there was no way to do that, they don't have that record. In the next breath, she said, okay, you are...., your phone number is.......,your address is...., how can I help you? I said to her you have ALL the information from my first call, but there is no record of WHOM I spoke too? Uh, huh! So, had to repeat everything again, and then she said to hold on. Finally, about 6 minutes had gone by and a supervision by the name of Amy answered. She could not be understood that well either! Went through the whole spiel again, and at the end, she said the account had been cancelled! I asked if we were going to be reimbursed for the missed papers. Have no clue what her answer was. If you expect to get any satisfaction, you are wasting your time. When they don't understand you, or if you ask them to repeat what they say, you will hear a dial tone. They have quite a racket going with "extending" your subscription when your paper is wet, undelivered, etc. We have had a subscription to the Sun and to The Aegis for over 30 years! Jeez, I wish the News American was still in operation!! The Baltimore Sun is beyond horrible. Don't waste your money, we are now picking it up at our local Royal Farm Store!! This is as poor of a paper that I have ever read. All of the staff are contract reporters as print newspapers are dying. What is a shame is in a town the size of Baltimore, that use to have two major newspapers, what is left is not worth looking at. I am surprised it is still around. Top it off the Sun is about left as any paper I have ever read. They make no attempts to hide it either. I give them that but it is so far left that when you put it down in the middle of your coffee table it slides off the left side of the table to the floor. read more

I, like others, miss the spontaneity of buying a newspaper, and having a newspaper in my hands. There was nothing like scanning the paper in the morning and then coming home from work and leisurely reading the articles in the evening. I checked into getting a subscription, but it would have to be through the mail and the news would be a week late. So, I get the news daily, on time from the Sun in my email. Of, course it is an abridged edition, but that's better than nothing. Its always nice to get the latest medical news coming out of Johns Hopkins. The editorials are usually equaled out by a counter editorial, Still, I miss the days of Jack Germond, when journalists were not universal, and were particular to their region, in the exposition of their opinions. They have to have one of the most useless customer service departments I've ever had to deal with. I have just ended my 3rd subscription period. The carriers I had were terrible. Insisted on leaving paper in a puddle even though there is a clear sidewalk space 5 feet away (still in front of our house). We complained numerous times & it was never corrected. We seem to have been given a new carrier a few months ago who did seem like they had some sense, but we have had multiple instances of missed papers, and when you call they do not offer a refund- only an extension of your current contract. All well & good but almost impossible to figure out whether or not we ever were rightly compensated. Just this week I called about missed papers & was told my credit card payment did not go thru in November so they cancelled my agreement. Without notice.There were also 3 different amounts due given: 1 on a physical bill, one in an email, and another in my account section of their website. I have records of at least 3 times I spoke to someone in their customer svc. dept. & was given a confirmation # for payment. None of these times did it get charged to my card number and who knows who got billed for that.Terrible service, terrible billing, terrible record-keeping. We are done with this crappy paper.
