Such a pleasure meeting someone on TV who was down to earth. From that day on - my computer goes directly to WMAR weather which i believe is the most accurate station in Maryland. Hannah worked with me for months on the details of the tour and did not disappoint when the day finally arrived for about 15 of us to tour the station. The digital sign in the lobby even had a welcome message with our chapter name and number on it. So welcoming! Hannah showed us everything from the control booths to the special lighting and robotic cameras, to the telethon stage/phones, to the new special events/concert stage area. We learned the history of MPT, how it's broadcast throughout the state of Maryland, what shows are locally produced, and about some special events and ways to support public broadcasting. The station is really cool and I highly recommend taking a tour.

The…read moreweekly broadcasts have a smattering of interesting tidbits here and there (Baltimore Stories, science corner, wine talk, etc.) but mostly it is devoted to daytime broadcasts of boring talk shows. So during the week it is mostly a place to switch over to hoping they're talking about something interesting while waiting for a good song to come on one of your other favorite stations. The weekend is where it really comes alive with nationally syndicated NPR shows like Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Prairie Home Companion, The Splendid Table, This American Life and others. That's the stuff that makes long car rides running errands bearable.
