On my most recent visit, I got stuck sitting near a couple, and the woman was literally reading aloud from a therapy book. She was lecturing her male companion on the exact appropriate way he needs to talk to her in their relationship. I'm all for healthy communication. Listening to a live couples counseling session at nine in the morning is not exactly pleasant, though. It's a funky place, and they definitely cater to a specific crowd, which fits their eclectic, community-driven aesthetic perfectly. After a few minutes I got back in line (even though there were now three people ahead of me). The temptation of their pourover was too great and I had a little time. The barista, remembering me from earlier, asked what else I would like. I told her I wanted to try a pourover and asked for her recommendation. After confirming that I liked light roasts, she said I might like the Costa Rica Santa Maria. I drank my cortado in much more haste than usual to get to my pourover (they use a Hario V60 type, for you pourover people). On my first sip of the pourover, I noticed the light acidity, but it was somehow different, in a good way. I couldn't really explain how it was different, since I'm not a real coffee nerd. The coffee was good, more delicate but not in a weak way. It was a new and interesting experience for me. I'm glad I went back to wait in line again. We were inside for literally a few seconds before we were immediately told dogs weren't allowed and that we needed to leave. We weren't even given a chance to respond, explain that I was just trying to order, or even be asked whether my dogs were service animals. I completely understand having a no-dog policy. That's not the issue. The issue was how unnecessarily abrupt and unwelcoming the interaction was. There are much better ways to communicate a policy to a customer who just walked in and clearly wasn't aware of it. Instead, we were basically dismissed before we could even say anything. So we left and took our business elsewhere. Grand Junction has already been a weird stop for us, and after this experience, we'll definitely be skipping this place in the future.

Also management I would recommend doing some simple coaching with these employees on professionality and such around closing.
