This isn't one of my favorite coffee shops in town. It is pretty average overall. My vanilla latte was drinkable but not that great. The pastries are a bit bland. The environment feels a bit like a church and doesn't have much ambiance, though that makes sense since its connected to the Christ Center. It is a little hard to find if you don't know where it is, but just go to the parking in the back and you should be able to find it. read more

Very clean, very comfortable business. Couches inside and really nice shady patio. Prompt friendly service from the assistant manager who knew everything off the top of her head. Food is made fresh so there will be a small wait, but it's worth it! The strawberry lemon crepe was excellent. The strawberry puree lemonade was good as well, very sweet and a little tart. Pros: FourWinds is open late (until midnight) which is unheard of in this little town. The coffee is *meh*. The frou-frou drinks are okay. The price and friendliness of the baristas is excellent. I'm all for free Wi-Fi and a safe, well-lit, charming place to escape and hang out. There is no pressure to purchase anything. The Christian theme is understated. Cons: Several baristas have recently quit. When asked why, there seemed to be a general distaste for the owner/general manager and the way he conducted business. He fired the director so he could hire his retired friend? And he fired the director with no justifiable cause and no warning, She was surprised - and smart; asking for a three month severance package - which she received. Bottom line: I will not give money to Four Winds/Christ Center ever again. I'll certainly use their late-night wi-fi, seating, electricity, etc. Because of the shady dealings with the owner/general manager, I will not give him my business. Thanks for the free wifi, though. *Edited: The director was not "fired". The general manager decided he needed her salary for his friend's new position, so she quit. read more

My husband and I are obsessed with coffee,tea and boba. We decided to check out four winds and we were not disappointed. You will find yourself visiting a cute and spacious shop with seating, books, board games and a great selection of food and beverages. I was really fond of it being a Christian based shop and the atmosphere was very soothing. Our coffees tasted GREAT. The boba was very yummy too. We found this lovely and cozy coffee shop from yelp and it's AMAZING! The staff is pretty nice and cute. We had chai latte and tea latte, both are good! I have seen several negative (or perhaps skeptical) reviews about this place due to it having a Christian "theme", so to speak, and I decided to chime in from my very neutral standpoint. My angle here is coffee shops, nothing else. I am not particularly religious. Just want a place to chill and drink coffee. I have been there I would guess 30-40 times since they opened, usually for a couple hours on weekend evenings to pass time while my other half is running around town shopping. The things I like about this place are 1)no one can touch the hours this place is open, 2)it has several cool spots for meetings or to gel, and 3)it is to a fair degree wi-fi surfer friendly. The coffee is mediocre, but hey, it's coffee. I largely avoid sitting downstairs in the main area where most of the freaks hang out, and rather prefer to chill in one of the rooms upstairs, or if occupied, one of the meeting rooms. I avoid interaction with others when there, and most of the time, this is a place where you can find privacy. There are no doubt some religious wackjobs that hang out there, but I have found they are largely harmless. Just your typical socially inept weirdos who have nothing to do, so they cling together and play yatzee and stupid stuff, or have their little bible meetings. They sometimes have people playing creepy music and weird stuff like that, but I just chill in one of the side rooms and avoid the wackjobs. I don't bother them, and they don't bother me, which is just how I like it. I am there to drink coffee and surf the net and let some time go by. So, if you are thinking "Oh man, a religious coffee shop. Screw that." Don't worry about it. Just go in there, grab a coffee, and chill out. No one will bother you. No one will impose their views on you or try to save you. Just chill. read more

They are non-profit which allows them to charge less than some of the other big-named coffee shops around. Good espresso and lattes, and pretty nice variety of drinks. Good to have options! Four Winds also offers a number is baked items. The coffee cake is dense but moist and yummy. They also offer some breakfast burritos, sandwiches, and bagel options. There is ample seating. They are connected to the Christ Center and across from some apartments so parking can be troublesome when it's busy. Look for parking on the side street (Bookcliff Ave). Although they're connected to the Christ Center (hence the non-profit), it's open to all, and one doesn't feel like they're in that church environment. In fact, I felt more than comfortable reading my book on science, while enjoying my delicious iced vanilla latte! Ha! This shop has everything a coffee shop should have...pretty good coffee, good pastries, books, couches and tables, and comfortable friendly vibe! read more

This is one of the better coffee shops in the area, populated primarily by kids from Mesa State and "church people" from the Christ Center in the same building. As others have said, this is an overtly "Christian Coffee Shop". Without getting into the veracity of various belief systems and their motives, the baristas and regulars are not preachy and the place is open until midnight which is a rarity in GJ.* The coffee is top-notch, they make better "foo-foo drinks" than Starbux, they have free wifi and it looks like they are having LAN tournaments (HALO, COD:Black Ops) in conjunction with one of the video game stores in town. Now that it's getting dark early, it's nice that there is an alternative to going out to the bars. *Full disclosure: the first couple of times we got coffee here, we thought this was an LGBTQ establishment. It was late at night, a young angsty twink with a shag was making the coffee and the environment had a very "stag" feel: older men on laptops. Coupled with the rainbow banners and the "Samson Society" fliers on the bulletin board, we had no inkling that this was a Christian establishment until we actually pulled up in the parking lot and saw the sign for the Christ Center. That's how low-key it is. (That and the 20 foot tall illuminated cross I never noticed on the facade of the building...) read more

Unlike some of the other reviewer's, I will write my review on this coffee establishment based on the baristas, the atmosphere, and the quality of their drinks. Yes, they are Christian-based, but let's be clear...it's a coffee shop first and foremost. I enjoy good coffee and am somewhat of a snob in this regard. I would say at least 70% of all coffee establishments do not make my cut. With that said, I gave them five stars because of their cleanliness, nice atmosphere, friendly baristas, and their variety of very good drinks. The blended and chai drinks are some of our favorites. Four winds is a great little coffee shop across the street from CMU. Yes, there is a Christian theme there. However, I found it pretty non-intrusive. There are plenty of tables and plugs, and enough space for you to get work done there. Tons of games where you can meet up with people and have fun. Coffee is okay- not the most amazing, but passable. The only thing that knocked this place down from 3.5 stars to 3 is that I went here 3 or 4 times in 3 days and the wifi was broken all 3 days. This place is absolutely perfect for hanging out, enjoying a cup of coffee, getting some schoolwork done, or meeting with friends. The coffee is pretty good, out of the many times I've been there, I think I've had two drinks I didn't like (and not because of preferences or anything). If you need some food, they have great lunch options. The baristas are extremely friendly and accommodating. Everything is clean and well-kept. I give this a five star because of the service and the atmosphere. This coffee shop has everything a coffee shop should have: good coffee, friendly service, comfy seating, games, books for sale, private rooms, and wifi. I'm also happy to know, as I buy my coffee, that the proceeds are going to something more than just the usual pocket of a rich business man. As a mocha-lover, I have to say their mochas are sooo much better than Starbucks. Four Winds is great. They're open late. They have other options for folks like myself who aren't inherently coffee drinkers but appreciate the atmosphere that a coffee place creates. The baristas might vary but as new people get hired and trained that's to be expected. I find myself there weekly and can't remember a time I had a negative experience. As far as it being overtly Christian, my thought would be, "Who cares?" If you're a person of faith or a follower of Jesus or whatever you want to call yourself and you appreciate the fact that you have a place to hang out then great. If you don't care that much about Jesus at all but you appreciate the hours Four Winds is open, the quality of their drinks, and the free Wi-Fi, then isn't that great too. Not once have I had anyone "proselytize" to me while there. It just happens to be a Christian coffee place, and unlike Christian music, at least Four Winds is good at what they do! I probably grab a coffee from Four Winds at least twice a month. Yes the wait was always 5-7 minutes even if I was the only one in line, but I was always pleased with the taste of my lattes. However my most recent visit will be my last. As my boyfriend and I entered Four Winds around 9 AM, it was quiet, with only 2 individuals on laptops. We went up to the counter to find no workers in sight. Understanding that a worker could be either on the phone, in the restroom, or busy working on something else, we waited patiently for about 7 minutes. With my boyfriend begging me to leave because we still hadn't seen a soul, I decided to peek around back for a worker. I spotted a young girl sitting in a back room, giggling and viewing something (probably a computer). I decided to give a gentle knock on the employee door. As I walked back up to the front, if looks could kill, my boyfriend and I would have been dead. Immediately uncomfortable, I apologized for knocking, and commented on how I just wanted to let someone know we were there. I was replied to with a raised eyebrow and an extremely curt, "Yeah." Looking into the devilish barista's eyes, knowing our coffee would have tasted like crap and probably spit in, amongst being treated like in-laws, I said, "Oh no, I'm not dealing with that." We turned around and left. I realize customer service is a dying virtue of many companies, but that is no excuse to jump on the band wagon. I was not being an unruly customer either; I was being quite polite after waiting and not seeing any workers. It was 9 AM on a Saturday. It seems obvious to me that a barista at a coffee shop should have been expecting customers for coffee at that hour. Four Winds might want to take a more careful consideration of which snobby college girls they hire for it seems as though they are not creating return customers. read more

This is one of the best coffe shops/hangout spots in town. There is nowhere else in GJ to just hang out after 9. It is always clean and the baristas are very friendly. They have a large menu with a variety of different drinks, and some food also. It's a really chill atmosphere. This place is great! The coffee is pretty good, some of the drinks are really good. The atmosphere is hard to beat. It is very laid back and casual with a fireplace going at times and occasionally some live music. There is always plenty of room for seating as well as a few rooms for private meetings if you don't want everyone hearing your conversation. That's really hard to find. The fact that it is Christian-based only adds to it. I would encourage anyone to go. I usually go once or twice a week and they have really good deals.
