Everyone needs a Ron! We first found Ron after our house was broken into and the door kicked in. He was the ONLY person to get back to me within 24 hours, and he came out ASAP to secure the door, with a follow-up visit to install the new door within the week. Since we had just bought the house, we also needed the knobs and locks replaced on the other doors - they were keyed differently and we weren't given a key for them, so we had Ron take care of those. He's also replaced our smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, our exterior lighting that was less than ideal, a showerhead that we weren't able to remove ourselves (it was on super tight!), installed a Nest outdoor camera (with a second one going in soon). And probably some other stuff I've forgotten. He's the kind of guy who, while doing one task will see something that isn't quite right (like a loose strike plate on a door) and take a couple of minutes to fix it up, as well. read more

Okay, so here's an update to my previous review. Ron reached out to me after seeing my Yelp review and said he did not receive any of my previous emails, he seemed sincere and really wanted to try to figure it out what happened. So we tried a few tests and he was able to receive my new emails (same gmail account), so who knows what happened. I was still in need of handyman services, as other competitors also didn't respond to me (must be an industry thing!), so Ron came out and bid on the job, his rates were fair and at market, we proceeded and he got to work the next week. He did a great job sourcing all the right materials, he even replaced an upper window that accidentally got cracked in the process of replacing the trim. Very nice guy and did awesome work. I needed an attic door removed so that a water heater could be replaced, and then reinstalled after the plumbers were done. Ron showed up very early in the morning to beat the plumbers there, then came back later in the evening to reinstall it. He must have worked a 14 hour day, and yet he was cheerful and efficient working well into the night. He brought his well-organized, well-stocked van full of tools, and he's obviously seen it all and done most of it. Above and beyond! Update again! It's years later and we're in a new house now in central Austin. The kitchen was in a really sad state and there was barfy wood paneling in the attached dining room. We knew we wanted to get rid of the countertops, the old cabinets, and raised the dropped roof. It turned out that the drywall in the dining room was eggshell fragile and was moldy in places, so Ron ended up stripping everything to the studs. He demolished everything, shored up the studs, supervised the electricians, the drywall guys, the painters, blew new insulation in, got after the cabinet people when they messed up until they fixed it, found us a GREAT tile guy for the backsplash, installed some floating shelves, put in the appliances, and hit our budget for the whole job. Two months later and our new kitchen is so great that it makes me love the whole house even more. Seriously: why get anyone else? Ron is awesome. read more

I went on David's recommendation and called Ron after another handyman said he didn't do the work we needed. Ron was more than happy to take on the job. I like that he has an hourly rate that is different for weekdays and weekends. That makes a lot of sense if you have an ethical, hardworking professional, which he is. My husband worked from home one morning while Ron came over and installed a new garage disposal and lubricated our crazy-loud garage door. I was having to cover my ears and scrape all the plates in the trash- life wasn't as good as it could be. Now, we are back in top top shape, all thanks to Ron. He fixed a rickety attic ladder that would not shut well and was very wobbly, replaced the bottom wood plank under my kitchen sink that was water damaged and rotten, and fixed a front door that leaked when it rains and would blow open at a mild breeze. He finished everything under the time estimate he provided and all work was very well done (quality definitely exceeded my expectations). I'm very late in writing this review, but I hired Ron October of 2011 after searching Yelp. I wanted to finish painting up some areas that we could not reach and some rotted baseboards. We communicated through emails and we set up a time for him to come by and give us an estimate. He was able to give us a quote and we set up the dates for completing the job. The quote was very reasonable! Trust me I tried to get a brand name quote for half of the job Ron did and it was highway robbery! Ron is talented, thorough and smart. One example: instead of simply re-roofing our outdoor shed (as two other handymen had given quotes for) he re-carpentered the angle of the roof itself - to allow rain water to roll off because the flatter angle had caused rotting due to the rain water pooling on it. Another example: our custom built fireplace glass door was installed incorrectly by the company that made it a few years ago; it fell on top of a family member recently. I thought I'd have to call a mason, but Ron was at our house fixing something else, so I asked him to take a look. He completely reinstalled the door so it fit much better into the brick hearth; and he knew to use special mortar, fireplace mortar, to cement the door in. I've hired Ron twice to help fix inside door/doorway issues with our older house, and he's been great. In the first case, he was able to modify the door frame and get the original door working like new, with very little work. In the second case, he (at my request) removed the old frame and built a new custom frame for entry into a utility room, and installed a bi fold door. He can be a bit tricky to get in touch with, but I think that's because he's so busy, which is a testament to the quality of his work. read more

RON IS AWESOME! The ladder to our attic was falling apart and borderline unusable. It ended up being a complicated job, but Ron (and Juan) replaced it over the course of this afternoon. He is thorough and describes himself as a perfectionist. You can really tell-- the finished product is excellent! He completely ignores his phone while he's on the job, which means you have his utmost attention at all times. And he's a super nice guy, which is a bonus. I would have already given him five stars for the work he did on the attic ladder, but I also asked him to take a quick look at our kitchen garbage disposal. He diagnosed that issue, and then (without me asking) noticed that the sink was running slowly so he cleaned out the faucet. It's like I have a new sink! I am beside myself with glee! The next day, he replied and said he won't be available to come out and fix the issue for another 3 weeks. By anyone else's standards, this is a long time. But I recalled the rave Yelp reviews I'd read and decided to be patient. Patience is always rewarded, right? I replied within minutes of Ron's email and told him I'm happy waiting 3 weeks and asked "what are the next steps?" to determine if we should set up an appointment right away so I can hold a spot 3 weeks from now. Ron is my go to guy for anything around the house. I have had him come replace my back door when it started to rot. He tore it out, reframed and balanced it, put in a new lock, new stopper. He was helpful, nice and the job was done correctly and professionally. He came back twice to replace a light bulb I could not reach (20 feet) in the air, and then to replace a garbage disposal.
