I have been shopping at The Attic for years. There is always a terrific ecclectic mix of all kinds of things, but especially clothing, accessories and jewelry. My most purchased items are jewelry. It was not until recently that I discovered it was a consignment shop. I had quite a few things I wanted to sell and realized I could do it at The Attic. I had a great experience with the consignment process, very simple. I received wonderful one on one attention with my things and any follow up questions I had were quickly answered. The whole staff is super nice and helpful and they play great music in the shop, which always makes for a pleasant shopping or browsing experience. It's like a lot of thrift/consignment shops- your mileage may vary depending on the day. Sometimes they have great finds for a good price, other days not so much. During Covid, I was excited to see they were doing online live sales. It was a fun and cool way to shake things up and get their clothes out there. However, this led to me discovering some problematic things. 1. When using employees to maintain your online or social media presence, it is important to make sure they are upholding this image. Unfortunately, a lot of the store's "dirty laundry" gets aired out on the staff's social media. Complaints about the boss being too overbearing, asking them to come in at unreasonable times (5 am!), or contributing to the employees' mental health in a negative way have popped up in posts. It might be different if these were personal accounts, but they advertise and are linked back to the shop. 2. It's a little disappointing to see that some of the higher end brand pieces get first pick by the staff. I understand employee discounts and stuff are part of the few perks of retail work, but ultimately this is a place for customers to be able to find a high end piece and say 'Score!' and post a positive review about it. Instead, it feels like we are left with the unwanted pieces while the employees get to take home the good ones like Fendi or Prada. All in all- the store is good but management could use improvements. read more

simply i put 1 star because the system does not allow me to put none. To make a long story short, the assistant Manager is highly incompetent, a nervous wreck and that does not fit her job. Headed to the store to retrieve unsold merchandise since I was a consignee, the above mentioned "manager" simply told me to look for the items since she had no time to do so. I couldn`t retrieve the items including a leather female vest telling sad stories. Once my girlfriend went there the item popped out of nowhere {after 1 week}. Furthermore, for all 3 consignment I just got 1 dollar seventy five cents worth of 2 items made of silk. She erupted in tears calling her boss telling that her ego was destroyed plus other fictional stories attached. Check your sales and money because she is Good for nothing.. and her manager.. over the phone was yelling and cursing so, zappping her out was necessary. I am tired of this cocky arrogant small town attitude attached at un professionalism and customer service cave women skills. read more

This place was an honest waste of my time. I drove over 2 hours round trip with my one year old in tow and wasted my time, money and gas to leave with my entire bag in my hand. The website specifically says we buy clothes, yet it seems they try to push you to consign and if you don't you get turned with everything you took for them to sell. I had a bag full of J Crew pants, capris and shorts in excellent condition. Apparently, those clothes weren't good enough and don't sell so they couldn't take them. I CALL BULLSHIT ON THIS PLACE. How do shorts and capris not sell in the summer???? I'm sure they advertise to buy, in hopes that you will walk in and buy something from them. They show a video on how selective they are with picking clothes, yet 4 of the shirts I liked had huge stains on them and were awfully wrinkled. You'll get better quality at a Salvatioin Army Thrift Store. On top of that there are laws and regulations on stores being handicap accessible. The front step is so HUGE that a stranger had to help me into the store with my stroller because there was absolutely no way I could do it on my own. I can't imagine how a person in a wheelchair would get into this store. Something seriously needs to be done about that! I'm sure an inspector could easily correct that problem. I am really sad about this place because it had a lot of potential to be a cool thrift store downtown but it's honestly a really a kind of an art snob spot. If you're looking for real thrift store finds, it's not here. The clothing all has the same kind of theme- vintage this or that, some French indie brand no one but people who follow bjorks stylists would know about, kind of sad grandmas sofa style. A *FEW* times I have seen something that was an actual decent pick, but that only happens when the planets align in some certain order. I've been going here for years and maybe have found something a total of 4-5 times out of all those visits. The staff isn't necessarily rude, they do greet you and stuff. But it's not exactly a welcoming atmosphere. A few times I've been in there I've heard the girls comment on a customers outfit from earlier in the day and make fun of them. Another time two of them were talking about a girl they didn't like, trashing her, not really a good look. It makes you really self conscious when you hear it because you're wondering if they're going to trash you for your outfit or whatever. Idk there's kind of this art snob vibe going on. Overall the clothing selection is really disappointing, there's a lot of lumpy pieces and odd 'I'm not like the other girls' accessories. I think they should think about bringing in girls with varying styles to select the clothes instead of just one boring hipster style. read more

Consignors beware! Recently I was hospitalized and couldnt pick up my secondary review. One day later I messaged, could they hold my items. No they said salvation army already picked up my jewelry. Untrue. I called salvation army, they dont pick up jewelry at establishments. Only furniture if they call their 1 800 number. They kept it to tag and sell, and keep the money. After several other poor experiences with them, I'm done. The management is subpar. On a good note the majority of the staff is courteous and nice to deal with. The prices are too high for pre- owned and are no longer a business worth shopping at. read more

Updating to respond to the owner: I understand vintage items are harder to come by but in that case, your employees should not be the ones who get to buy it up first. I also saw in another review that you responded to that you said there is a no phone policy. I have seen your employees taking countless photos and selfies within the store itself. They are on display on social media and are obvious about it. I can't tell you how to run your business but I would pay attention to customers who are complaining about your employees' conduct. If there is a no phone policy, there needs to be some kind of penalty system for infractions. Three strikes, you're out. There is no shortage of people who are willing to work, it may be time to look at who you employ and if they are more of a benefit or a hinderance to your business. read more

It's been a while since I've been here, but the last time was just that, the last time I'd ever set foot in there. I'm a serious collector of vintage mens wear from the 1910s-1940s, and I'd been there a few times. Not seeing anything truly vintage, I asked the sales girl if she had any mens wear from the 20s, 30s, etc....Her response was something to the effect of "no, we have more modern vintage, more like 80s, 90s. That stuff is for Halloween costumes. We don't carry that." First of all, 90s is NOT vintage yet, 80s, just barely. Never had I been treated so rudely. Suggesting the clothes I had on (a 1930s suit, btw), was equal to a costume is probably the most insulting thing you could say to a serious collector. As an aside, the suit probably cost more than just about anything in this rinky-dink shop anyway. In any case I would never go back, and don't recommend at all. The stuff they carry is glorified thrift store type clothes and accessories, and very over priced. I am quite surprised they're still in business. They play fast and loose with the term "vintage." Don't go here as a consignor. I drop off one bag of clothes are per policy - they choose only s few items out of all hardly worn items and now won't "mail" a check as described because it's under $15 and expect me to drive 30 minutes and "try" to find a parking space to "pick" up a lousy $14. I do like this store. It's well organized for a second-hand store, the clothes are 99% in good repair (I've seen a few shirts with minor staining or tears), and there's a wide variety to choose from. I've shopped here several times, usually found at least one or two items I purchased (sometimes more), and got my mother-in-law hooked. Hell, even my husband will stop in with me if we are on Main Street (he grabbed an awesome Guess jacket last year for $30). Why do I give it three stars? It's small. Yes, I understand that rent on Main Street is probably uber-high and it's difficult to get a large location, but I don't like constantly bumping elbows with people while I shop. I feel claustrophobic while I shop here. Prices are hit or miss. I agree with some of the reviews that the prices are quite high for certain items, especially with some of the jewelry. I understand that jewelry doesn't depreciate as quickly as clothing, but some of the price tags I find to be unreasonable. I'm a size 5, and have difficulty finding clothes sometimes. There are a lot of clothes tailored to 0-3 sizes. It'd be nice if they picked up more variety for the not rail-thin kind. I understand they can only go by what comes in the door to be sold, but its frustrating when most of the shirts I like wouldn't cover my chest if I tried them on. Staff could be nicer. They're not the friendliest lot of people I've met in a retail establishment, and they've been relatively rude to some people who have come in to sell clothes while I was shopping. It's a store where you go in, get what you want, and get out. Don't expect much else. Disclaimer: I personally haven't sold here. What a happy accident! I found the attic today while walking back to my car, and almost didn't go in as it's original sister store in Kutztown never had much that appealed to my personal taste (and not very much that fit a curvier girl, quite frankly). I had only been to that one a handful of times and left empty-handed, though I very much appreciated the store for what it was. HOWEVER, today was my lucky day as the new (new-ish?) Bethlehem located was a-ma-zing. I walked into the dressing room with about 8 things, and had to pry myself away from the belts, purses and shoes. They organize clothing by type of piece, AND size which means you can really use your shopping time wisely, and not overlook something great. The womens sizes went up to at least a 16 (likely some larger sizes in dresses and sweaters), and the boys section was GREAT and a vast improvement from the older store, as well. The girls working the counter (one may have been the owner) were very polite, friendly, and complimentary, not at all like the pretentious clerks you face in city thrift stores. The selection was also very well-edited, and the prices were very affordable as the markup is still "cheap". (They aren't trying to charge $35 dollars on a dress that only cost them $2 - you'll pay more like $8, which means everyone wins!) As I was walking out, another shopper briefly filled me on their buying services - if you take stuff they want to sell, they will give you 35% cash for it (of the new sell price) or 55% store credit. (*Don't quote me on those numbers, though.) This is GREAT if you're someone like me who has a lot of nice clothes that you just don't wear, and want to see a little return on them. I thoroughly enjoy the attic. Unfortunately my full figure prevents me from finding a ton of things here - but the stuff is good and I don't think I've ever seen anything more than $20. Definitely skews younger (hs and college looking) but if you dig you can find something for anyone. They are EXTREMELY picky when it comes to consigning. I usually go first here with items to sell since they give you cash upfront (or more value with store credit). However, I have taken their rejects elsewhere and have successfully sold them. Like most shops of this kind you have to be patient. You have to dig through a lot of times to find the gems. Trust me, there are gems here. And reasonably priced ones at that. They seem to consistently have a good selection of jeans and button down shirts for men, as well as the occasional amazing find t-shirt. Case and point...the Michael Jackson Thriller album cover black tee my wife found. Well, I found it, but it was aggressively tight even for me. My wife always seems to find some unique throwback styles here, and whenever we are in Bethlehem we make it a point to come to this shop. I've been in here a couple of times with friends,but never really finding anything too worthwhile. I've found that they usually have a pretty decent selection, but it's mostly for women. That is not to say, however, that they do not have a men's section. While it does seem to be growing in size, it's just not as big. That is not to say, however, that you couldn't find something if you looked deep enough. Full of great finds! OMG there's a pair of Isaac Mizrahi boots (not the Target line, the original Isaac) that almost fit me. Dammit! They were gorgeous multi-colored snakeskin, perfect condition, and about $15. The prices are reasonable and the quality very good. Great selection of accessories, scarves...everything, really. I went on a Saturday to sell clothes (word of warning - Saturday is not the day to sell clothes, there was a two -hour backup and the store was mobbed with all ages) and I shopped and left and then returned, no problem. Next time I'm selling though I'll definitely go on a weekday. They're really selective in what they buy, and my only disappointment was that they didn't have much for, um, double-digit sized broads. I know young women who shop there every week to get the latest stock and to sell their unwanted stuff so there must be great turnover. read more

The quality of the store is equal parts management and equal parts the area it resides in. Locals don't want to pay enough for things (which leaves the price range in an odd place and the store empty) and often resell blatant crap! I've seen some arguments with sellers. Some of them wrong- some of them right. I feel like theres hardly anything worth while on the racks though, even with weeks in between visits. The buyers are totally inconsistent- even with a few days between buying. Maybe the store is broke or their just getting lazy? Of course this only applies to some of the employees. I've also had many great encounters with employees here too. There's a red head that works there that always seemed miserable! watch out!! She's probably underpaid or constantly menstruating.... The troubles may have something to do with the management of the store. I often find that if the core of a business isn't well kept and consistent, as well as a reasonable pay- your employees will not give two shits. And with poor pay you may get young bratty workers who don't care if they have a job or not and people that may just be sick of low pay. Shouldn't small businesses be investing in gem employees? I think they're wasting time and money constantly training people who don't have any clue what they're doing. If you're looking for modern clothing thats priced a little less than what it originally sold for go here, the quality control is the one thing the store does have down so this will cut back on your questioning a piece before buying. They have a very, very small section of vintage. Rarely do I find something good here but when I do it.is.so.cheap. Check out their vintage section! If you get to their Kutztown store its a whole different story! There's much more costume and vintage and still at a great price. As for style... I'm not so sure what's going on. I'm not sure if this is due to the area and a lack of folks bringing in good styles but most items seem blase and no character. I'm the type of person who always has her eye our for a good bargain / great find and you can def do that here. I was surprised to read Tracy F's review and have the opposite feelings. If you're expecting Barneys then you should shop there! I think The Attic Bethlehem was a great addition to the other fun shops on Main Street and know I will continue to get great clothes. This is my all time favorite thrift store ! I live close to the area so I'm there a lot lol. It's very budget friendly and most of the time you can find something cute . I do agree with the previous reviewer , that they should extend their clothing selection a bit more to cater to people who aren't size 0-3 :( not everyone is that small ! Cmon average woman is SZ 12-16 not 0-3 but if you're an average woman size you can find a few T-shirts . I mostly go there for accessories & my teenage niece .
