We tried the potstickers (5/5) and egg rolls (4/5) and they both came out golden brown and crispy. Other reviewers, perhaps having failed to learn about how condensation works in science class, gave these menu items a bad report. Eat in and enjoy them hot and crispy! Service was fast and they hustled to bring my wife's vegetable chow mein (4/5) and my massive plate of combination fried rice (5/5). I had enough left over for another full meal. Several beers to choose from, including a Lagunitas IPA. And of course the rooster Sriracha sauce was there for customers to add heat as desired.

***USP: Wouldn't call it a fusion restaurant but they have a large menu covering items from Vietnamese and Chinese cuisines. ***AMBIANCE: Bare bones ambiance, a partly open kitchen at the entrance. Lot of take out containers, plastic cutlery stashed on a table at the entrance which opens up to a fairly decent sized dining room. ***FOOD: Most of the food was middle of the road. The fresh spring rolls were not built properly, and were falling apart. The kungpao chicken had a lot of soy sauce and was very salty. The curry tofu had the typical western style "curry " powder with carrots and peas. Overall, though I didn't fall in love with the food, it was sufficiently decent.

The Great Gal is away and I didn't want to cook tonight, so ordered Take Out tonight from the Asian Cafe. I'm by myself and Holy Toledo, the size of a mixed chow mein and toasted wontons would feed four people and I basically spent $21. And more importantly, I enjoyed the chow mein big time. The won tons were a bit oily so I held my rating at a Four. The young man serving was polite and cordial, but I did not catch his name. If you want a basic, and filling, Asian meal, this place is worth the visit.

Food is delicious and fresh. Large portions too. Employees noticed we were sweating from a ride across the hills and they gave us a large fan to cool us off! Would come back again!

We are just visiting and love vietnamese food. They were closed on Sunday so we waited until Tuesday when they were open. It is a very cute, standalone building with a patio in front as well as in a courtyard. It wasn't busy to so we were seated quickly. They had weekday lunch specials at great prices, which included reduced prices for Pho, so I got the chicken Pho. Generous portion, good broth. My husband had the beef Pho and which he enjoyed his as well. Highly recommend!

Conveniently located right along Highway 4 as you're heading through Murphys, the Asian Cafe was a wonderful way to end our day in the area. Having hiked all day, it was time for an early dinner. There is a private lot and the building looks unassuming from the road. Upon entering, we were greeted right away and got to choose a table. There was a gentleman serving the whole dining area and dealing with take out orders. He was incredibly nice and efficient, Got the veggie egg rolls and Kung pao tofu with veggies. Nicely flavored, not too greasy and generous portions that allowed for leftovers. Really good food and pleasant dining experience. The spacious seating area was rustic but clean. I can see this being a regular stop on my visits up Highway 4 in Calaveras county.

Went for dinner on the weekend and the place was pretty empty. I think most people do take out. We enjoyed everything we ate except the hot and sour soup (we accidentally got a bowl and that was huge!). Both the hunan seafood dish and the honey garlic shrimp were very flavorful and filling. I would like to go back to try other dishes but I think next time I'll just do take out. The ambient inside felt lonely and the dinning area has a strange smell.

Food here is delicious! The restaurant itself is a little small and the parking lot is a little smaller than that, but don't be deterred by that! They have really great main dishes and Ph! I ordered the beef ph and it was some of the best I've ever had! read more

This unfortunately was the worst Asian food I have had in a long time. The people behind counter were very nice but the food was not good quality. I ordered chow mein, the noodles were boiled and when sauteed were still stuck together. I could not taste a difference in the sesame chicken or garlic chicken, except for the sesame garnish. I was very disappointed. read more

Excellent! Stopped in while exploring Gold Country and I'm so glad we did! We ordered potstickers, egg rolls, beef noodle soup, Szechuan vegetables & fried meatballs. Everything was fresh, made to order & delicious. The meatballs were cooked perfectly, not like American meatballs (which is important- there's a big difference). This is a great place to go to. We order the family special B, change around a few ingredients, and have a yummy meal. Always have food leftover even after 4 people eat. Our favorites are pork fried rice, broccoli beef, garlic chicken (or general Zho chicken), beef chow mein, and spring rolls with potstickers. Family running the place is so very nice. Their boba tea drinks (love the passion fruit or mango ones), are a treat too. read more

We stopped in for boba and the fried mushroom appetizer and everything was amazing! We got the taro boba and coffee boba and were very pleased. The fried mushrooms came with sweet and sour sauce and was the perfect afternoon snack! We will be back! read more

We were hoping for decent Asian food & we're so pleasantly surprised -- the food was awesome! Another first! Out on a ride on the motorcycle and wanted something warm! Seen they had Pho! It hit the spot! It was delicious. The service was great and very courteous! I love Pho, I eat it when and where ever I can. The Asian Cafe is an amazing place. It is super clean, great helpful staff and amazing food. I had Pho and it was so good. Rich clean flavorful broth, all the veggies were super fresh and noodles were cooked perfect. The meat was fresh, delicious and fresh. I always get the meat outside and cook it in my bowl. My girl had the combo appetizer great selection and everything was wonderful. It is all their fried goodies. I did not have any of the Chinese food but is looked really good and from the reaction of other people they were enjoying it. The restaurant is so nice. Very very clean and a cool fireplace inside. Plenty of parking. I will be back. You will not be disappointed. read more

I don't really understand why this restaurant has so many positive reviews. I've eaten there three times, and the best they've done is mediocre food at best. I've ordered both the Chinese and the Vietnamese meals, and they were missing some essential ingredients. No big complaints though, it's the only Vietnamese food in the area. read more

Where's the beef? Mongolian Beef should be called Mongolian Onions....a total lack of beef in this dish. Other dishes were bland and tasteless. Here's a news flash...if you're trying to save money by not including beef in a beef dish, customers WILL notice and will not return. read more

We made an unexpected stop there on the way to Bear Valley (honestly, we just needed the restroom so we bought Boba Tea - which was awesome). We liked the place so much that we decided to stop for dinner on the way back - and we're happy we did! The food was great and the service was great. Everybody in our group loved it - the vegan, the carnivores, the kids, and the pesceterain. Simple Asian food at its best. read more

This place is lovely! Great little cafe and a perfect place to stop on your way out of town. The food was delicious and the prices were great--starting around $7.50 per plate. Our table had the chicken chow main, orange chicken, vegetable delight, shrimp fresh roll, and two kinds of vermicelli noodle bowls. The chef came out to check on us several times and was extremely sweet. We were all big fans. P.S. If you are looking to add a kick, they'll gladly bring a bottle of Sriracha to your table if you ask. read more

It's nice to see some diversity in the food in murphys. Asian food was definitely missing, if you're looking for cheap takeout this is your place. The sweet and sour chicken was good as well as the broccoli. My main concern is if they use msg or not? They don't state it anywhere read more

The portions of meat, noodles, and tofu in the various pho bowls are HUGE. Like, unable to finish huge. Both kids ate almost everything in front of them, and my husband was very pleased that he was able to tweak his order to fit his dietary needs. We went early in the day so there were only a few customers, but by the time we were leaving, almost every table was full. Great stop after playing in the snow because the pho really warms you up! read more

Disappointingly and more importantly, Hong Kong Inn's Wor Won Tons disintegrated when I brought the to go container home. Plus, on further inspection, the Wor Won Ton only had three shrimp, a couple of slices of chicken, a couple of slices of Twice Cooked Pork, two sprigs of broccoli, a couple of carrot slivers, AND a couple of zucchini slivers swimming in the Wor Won Ton broth--THAT'S IT???? Yup~This exponentially expensive economy is hurting Hong Kong Inn's ingredients list . . . $15.00 for a serving of Wor Won Ton Soup . . . Compared to a few years ago: Just review the photos because it's not a "figment" of my imagination the escalated price increases, indeed!

The prices are competitive, without extra for this or that (the other local Chinese restaurant now charges $2.00 for rice and $2.00 for tea.....). As we were leaving, the chef even came out to check on everything--who does that anymore? My experience was, all around, really good--thanks, China City!

Given some of the reviews of this place, I came with high expectations. First of all, service was excellent and the person who served us was very nice and friendly. We started with the Combo Appetizer. It was served hot and fresh right out of the fryer. But the dish was hit and miss. The wontons had no meat in them, and I have never been a fan of crab Rangoon. It's filled with cheese and not even close to authentic Chinese. The highlights of the combo were the egg rolls and the pot stickers, those were really good. Then we had the almond chicken with rice, and the Singapore noodles. Both of them were really good. The almonds were still crunchy, and we both liked the water chestnuts. The noodles were had just the right amount of curry in them. Just enough to taste, but not too spicy to detract from the flavor of other things in there. The only ding was that they charged us a dollar more for the combo appetizer than was stated in the menu. I adjusted accordingly on the tip. read more
