***USP: Wouldn't call it a fusion restaurant but they have a large menu covering items from Vietnamese and Chinese cuisines. ***AMBIANCE: Bare bones ambiance, a partly open kitchen at the entrance. Lot of take out containers, plastic cutlery stashed on a table at the entrance which opens up to a fairly decent sized dining room. ***FOOD: Most of the food was middle of the road. The fresh spring rolls were not built properly, and were falling apart. The kungpao chicken had a lot of soy sauce and was very salty. The curry tofu had the typical western style "curry " powder with carrots and peas. Overall, though I didn't fall in love with the food, it was sufficiently decent.

The Great Gal is away and I didn't want to cook tonight, so ordered Take Out tonight from the Asian Cafe. I'm by myself and Holy Toledo, the size of a mixed chow mein and toasted wontons would feed four people and I basically spent $21. And more importantly, I enjoyed the chow mein big time. The won tons were a bit oily so I held my rating at a Four. The young man serving was polite and cordial, but I did not catch his name. If you want a basic, and filling, Asian meal, this place is worth the visit.

Apologies that it's half-eaten, but this is the yummy chicken Pho from today.

We are just visiting and love vietnamese food. They were closed on Sunday so we waited until Tuesday when they were open. It is a very cute, standalone building with a patio in front as well as in a courtyard. It wasn't busy to so we were seated quickly. They had weekday lunch specials at great prices, which included reduced prices for Pho, so I got the chicken Pho. Generous portion, good broth. My husband had the beef Pho and which he enjoyed his as well. Highly recommend!

Went for dinner on the weekend and the place was pretty empty. I think most people do take out. We enjoyed everything we ate except the hot and sour soup (we accidentally got a bowl and that was huge!). Both the hunan seafood dish and the honey garlic shrimp were very flavorful and filling. I would like to go back to try other dishes but I think next time I'll just do take out. The ambient inside felt lonely and the dinning area has a strange smell.

Conveniently located right along Highway 4 as you're heading through Murphys, the Asian Cafe was a wonderful way to end our day in the area. Having hiked all day, it was time for an early dinner. There is a private lot and the building looks unassuming from the road. Upon entering, we were greeted right away and got to choose a table. There was a gentleman serving the whole dining area and dealing with take out orders. He was incredibly nice and efficient, Got the veggie egg rolls and Kung pao tofu with veggies. Nicely flavored, not too greasy and generous portions that allowed for leftovers. Really good food and pleasant dining experience. The spacious seating area was rustic but clean. I can see this being a regular stop on my visits up Highway 4 in Calaveras county.

Fusion style Vietnamese and Chinese food . Each dish from the various countries they represented tasted better than the countries from where they originated. My shrimp in lobster sauce was delicious and spared me the gooey consistency found in many, if not most, Chinese restaurants. My wife had chicken fried rice and our friends had sesame chicken, egg fried rice and Kung Pao shrimp. We all shared and everyone got into the car fully stuffed and we had leftovers to take home. Great prices too.

Given some of the reviews of this place, I came with high expectations. First of all, service was excellent and the person who served us was very nice and friendly. We started with the Combo Appetizer. It was served hot and fresh right out of the fryer. But the dish was hit and miss. The wontons had no meat in them, and I have never been a fan of crab Rangoon. It's filled with cheese and not even close to authentic Chinese. The highlights of the combo were the egg rolls and the pot stickers, those were really good. Then we had the almond chicken with rice, and the Singapore noodles. Both of them were really good. The almonds were still crunchy, and we both liked the water chestnuts. The noodles were had just the right amount of curry in them. Just enough to taste, but not too spicy to detract from the flavor of other things in there. The only ding was that they charged us a dollar more for the combo appetizer than was stated in the menu. I adjusted accordingly on the tip.

Seriously the best sesame chicken & steamed rice I've had. I don't typically post reviews however I am very impressed with the food, the service and overall serving size. The quaint little patio in the back was perfect for the two of us with my pup. Had enough for lunch and enough to take home for lunch tomorrow. Highly recommend! read more

First time visiting this restaurant. It's not San Jose Asian quality food but it's still delicious. The Chinese food tasted good but I would avoid the Vietnamese noodle soups. The noodles were hard and the soup was bland. read more

Stopped off here after a long day in the snow and we were all ravenous. Was happy to find Asian Cafe which had very good reviews. It looks a little run down from the outside but the inside was quite nice. Food was mixed. The curry tofu and sweet and sour chicken were great. Pho was OK. The orange chicken was a total miss, super greasy and inedible. I did mention it to the waiter but he just nodded which was an odd reaction. Oh well, all good. read more

Everything was bland. Serious lack of seasoning. It looked like good portions until I discovered my Szechuan beef order was almost entirely onions! Can you imagine spending $10.95 for a sliced onion? That's what this sucker did. Heavy flour on my wife's old-tasting Orange Chicken. Fried mushrooms had no taste at all (canned?) . Chow Mein was acceptable and Pho was pretty good. Nice looking place, polite staff, and decent Pho eeks out a second star. I really wish I would have eaten in so I could have shown them the plate of onion. read more

This was decent Chinese takeout, but nothing to write home about. The food was average, and I wasn't impressed with their Covid safety. We ordered the following: 1) Garlic chicken - this was breaded, which we didn't expect; it was decent 2) Hunan shrimp - good 3) Schezwan beef - decent 4) Vegetable delight - good 5) Shrimp fried rice - good 6) Chicken chow mein - decent We called in our order, and appreciated that we were able to specify the pick up time. I was disappointed, however, that they did not allow me to pay by credit card on the phone for convenience and Covid safety. When I picked up, the customer in front of me in line was allowed to enter without a mask, which I found concerning. Additionally, they had me sign a receipt with a pen that appeared to be used by others, without being cleaned in between uses, which didn't make me feel particularly safe. They did have hand sanitizer available, which I appreciated. Overall, we had a decent meal here, and the portions were generous and the prices were good. I just hope they will be more careful in the future about creating a Covid-safe environment. read more

I love Chinese food & it's even harder to find it in smaller towns. It's one of my favorites and I have it so often that I know GOOD Chinese food. Chicken Fried Rice & Vegetable fried rice were amazing. Fried rice is my favorite dish and I know I'm going to be craving it again! My sister LOVED her tofu noodle soup. Usually when restaurants combine two cuisines, one isn't as good. However we enjoyed both the Chinese & Vietnamese dishes. Garlic chicken had a great flavor. The egg rolls were also bomb! Mongolian beef was flavorful & tasty. Best of all - service was amazing. I will definitely be coming back! read more

The soups here are wonderful. They have large selections some dishes are a hit, and others not so much. Be careful with phone orders these are often wrong so check bags before leaving. Staff is very nice as is indoor and outdoor seating. read more

Friendly & Fast! Greeted right away with a warm smile and hello was a great start to this dining experience on a gray day. As fast as I was greeted, I was sat for my notorious late lunch in a warm and cozy dining area, with electric fireplace behind me. I quickly ordered 2 customized pork & shrimp spring rolls, their lemon chicken and their combination fried rice with, chicken, pork, shrimp and veggies. Like the speed of lightening the man came out with beverage and then the spring rolls. By the time I could take a Yelp picture of it, he was already coming out with the heaping plate of the rice. Talk about quick....so I had to dig in knowing the chicken was shortly behind. The spring roll was soft, delicate, stuffed with veg/sprouts and desired proteins. Accompanied of course with their peanut sauce. Very filling on it's own, almost wondered why on this solo adventure I let my eyes get the better of me. Not to worry...eat one, save one for dinner. Had a few fork fulls of the delicious rice combination along with many lemon chicken pieces...and easily decided to tap out and pack the rest up for dinner. The lemon chicken was soft and crispy at the same time. Reminded me of sweet and sour chicken bits but with a yummy lemon sauce verse red sweet/sour sauce. All in all a great experience lunch and now dinner wise. As an out of town gal from NY to land in a location as comforting as this one, in sense of food quality and service for the cuisine type, I can recommend to anyone to get lost in this area of town and check them out. read more

Maybe I'm catching them on off days, but the two times we ordered food and Boba here were trash and a complete waste of money. Fried rice had liquid at the bottom, pho had zero flavor, bobba was warm, yet hard, but also made the drink warm. I always give 2nd chances, but Def will not give a 3rd! read more

The employees are so friendly! When we eat in they make sure that we are comfortable have what we need and provide great service. The ambiance is beautiful! Inside and outside. The mongolian beef had a terrible cat pee smell. Usually this is from canned/spoiled bamboo shoots. Totally inedible. Orange chicken gave off "reheated in the microwave" vibes and included peas for some reason? Their menu is split with one side being Chinese fast food and the other traditional Vietnamese food. Maybe the Vietnamese food is better, but the Chinese menu made this a one time visit. read more

Good, friendly service. So far the Chinese dishes taste have been good whereas the Vietnamese ones, kind of lacking in flavor to me. Granted, having been the head of a half-Chinese household for ~16 years, I've had much more experience with Chinese food. That said, one of my neighborhood staples before I moved out of the city was a Vietnamese place, for example, so I do have some frame of reference. I also got the impression that maybe they don't see much demand for truly spicy food, either. The chili sauce to me, I loaded up on it in trying to find some kick, but it was not spicy at all. I wasn't sure if it was mild or just not so fresh anymore. read more

Awful food, my 12 year old was so looking forward to the orange chicken, ate 3 bites, had us try it, no idea what they were going for, I had the Mongolian beef, filled with canned mushrooms, so gross, chow mien was almost all noodles and fried rice was dried out. read more

Had lunch here while visiting the area. Not impressed. Food was very average with too much "sauce" and salt and our chicken vegetable dish was made with frozen vegetables. Combo fried rice was mostly rice and digging through it we only found 2 tiny sad shrimp. The place in general smelled like grease and the facility seemed unkempt. A hard pass with so many 3+ choices in Murphy's. read more

Wow! Great food and friendly, quick service. Couldn't ask for more. We all ordered pho. It was great! Tasty, good broth and good quality meat. We visited this restaurant last year when it was a breakfast place. Sad to see that it's gone because it was excellent too. But happy this Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant took its place. We also saw others order fried rice and chow mein. HUGE portions! Looking forward to going back. read more

Excellent! Stopped in while exploring Gold Country and I'm so glad we did! We ordered potstickers, egg rolls, beef noodle soup, Szechuan vegetables & fried meatballs. Everything was fresh, made to order & delicious. The meatballs were cooked perfectly, not like American meatballs (which is important- there's a big difference). It was pretty good, overall. The server brought our food out very quickly, hot and fresh off the wok. I had to wait some minutes while it cooled down enough to eat. When I took my first bite, I was very pleased. The taste was spot-on. Their chef knows how to cook. Fortunately, the portion was fairly generous, too, as I realized how hungry I was. My friend had ordered a few different things stir fried, like garlic eggplant and tofu. It looked well-prepared, as well. It was quite a nice surprise that we found such a good Chinese restaurant in Little old Arnold.
