This review is based on my experience as a customer at the student salon. I went in for a simple semi-gloss (not a permanent dye) to blend some grey hairs. An INSTRUCTOR (not even a student!) dyed my hair with permanent pitch black dye, way darker than the color I wanted, which covered up some really expensive balayage I'd gotten a few months earlier. She lied and tried to convince me that it would fade over time, that it was just the way my hair took to the semi gloss, etc. Eight weeks later, I went to another salon to for a haircut and they confirmed the truth. My hair had been dyed with an almost black permanent dye. If the adults in the room are this shitty, does it even matter that they're supervising untrained students? read more

Respect and kindness are hardly ever reciprocated. The ladies in the office look and act like they're miserable. Asking a simple question seems to be a hassle for anyone there, or the just look at you like you're stupid. If you're looking to actually grow and learn new skills, I do not recommend this school in the slightest. read more

Not only do the clients forget that STUDENTS are doing their hair, but the school itself does not allow equal opportunity for getting experience in the salon . Artistic Academy should not be part of Fafsa or any grant or financial support program..making these individuals think that they will come out of school with a license and work almost guaranteed. Every single additional learning skill is money and money . They just teach you basic Aesthetic class nothing that can make a living. The week after Christmas a friend had an extra apt. and asked if I wanted it. I went, but they couldn't do the dye, as they were out. Not the problem. I had brought lots of things to keep me busy as my friend had told me it takes a long time. The problem is not all items were returned when I left. One thing that did not make it out of the Salon was a bag with my Christmas cards, addresses info and possibly, two black and white photos of my parents I was planning on reproducing for Christmas. Regardless, I left a message a week later when it hit me.. So, left the message at night, got a call in the morning. Was told they found nothing, but I said, let's not leave it at that. Can you please ask around as it was busy. Did you call the stylist? No, she graduated and there is no way of getting a hold of her. I said That is not true, you have her info. We have to get permission from the director. AND???? (I wasn't asking for her number, you people worked with her. Is it really so hard? ) I said I should just come in and speak to someone face to face. Receptionist said she didn't want me wasting my time. I said it is not a waste of time. I want to get my items back. She really was trying very hard to dissuade me from coming in. So I'm feeling that there is not a lot of cooperation forthcoming. I said I will just probably come in in the morning. So keys in hand I get a call from them and they said they had a video of me coming and going with a bag. YES, but I had several bags and one was taken with my coat. Around in circles, and later dumped a bit more wound up version of me onto the director. I am getting into my car to go over and see video she says she has. She tells me I am talking over her. I say, look I've heard the same thing from 3 different people you don't seem worried about my safety, I'm in the car, I can't hear you, it's better to talk face to face. In any case, I felt we were both losing our composure. Things were getting heated but not at all threatening. No name calling, no swearing, no accusations, , I actually said several times that the items may have been put away for safe keeping during the holidays. I always give people an out. Yes things are busy. So, although I was upset by her total stonewalling, I promised myself to let it go, and be apologetic for talking over her, I'm sure she is upset too, just make her know you are not without compassion for her situation, she is just hearing about it and may need more information. I get to the salon, go park, walk to the salon side up to the desk. I'd like to speak to the director. Girl says follow me, I say thank you, she holds door open, I say thank you, another door another thank you, leads me to conference room, says to sit, I say thank you. i wait calmly maybe 20 minutes later two police men walk in. WOW. That director is I assume a grown adult. SO, was this her message to me. Apparently, she can't do face to face. How on earth is she even a director? Your job is dealing with the public? I speculate she was thinking ...I don't have to listen to you, and I have friends on the force? this should stop that woman from pursuing her issue. WOW...playing the victim, a very classic Narcissistic movement. (WHO's stuff is missing?...Who got stonewalled? Is this woman for real?) The police say they know some of my things are missing and want to hear what happened. I tell them, they watch a video. I hear the director laughing. ...wow this woman is now laughing; she is openly mocking me. Then I hear her say it was very chaotic that day, then It was quiet, and then I hear her snivel a little. WHAT? are you crying? Did you see something that supported my claim? Did the officers see it I had told the officers earlier when I was telling them what happened, that the stylist had taken my coat and one of my bags that had the cards in it. They say they only saw my coat. I am guessing that from whatever angle that my coat covered the bag. I distinctly remember saying in my head, when she took my coat, well, I guess I'm not going to do my cards. I had plenty of other busy work. So, when the officers returned, they gave me a card with the case report number they say I can take her to court. I said, " I'm not a pauper." For goodness' sake. I may be a jerk but not that big of a jerk, I'm not even being a jerk, I just want my stuff back. I say if you are making a report, make it a good one, make sure you have other video if there is a camera in the hallway and coat room. He said there was only the one. And that is inconclusive. So, she didn't talk to me, did not allow me to see the video. she treated me with disrespect and humiliated me. I said this, (to my daughter which sums it up) it's like I got rear-ended and I'm paying a deductible for the damages caused by someone else's carelessness. Could have been handled a lot better. read more

Notice most of the good reviews are about receiving services at the school, not attending the school for an education. This place does not abide by their contract and they have no HR department to keep things running correctly. They will not excuse you for medical absences despite it saying so on their contract and they don't update your billing nearly as quick as they'll deposit your money. My friend was just told she can't graduate after passing her licensing exam, a week before she was set to graduate because they won't excuse her medical absences from surgery to remove skin cancer, and don't even get me started on Ms. Cherita, who literally bullied my friend and then lied about kicking her out of class. DO NOT GO HERE they are money hungry and do not abide by their contract. They seem to have all the time in the world to respond to negative reviews but not enough time to update the billing in a timely manner or fact check their contract. read more

If you're looking for a school with an HR department to protect you from staff treating you however they'd like to based on their mood, do not attend this school. They do not go by their contract, which states medical absences are excused. God forbid you get skin cancer and need surgery to remove it, you will be marked absent and be told you can't graduate two days before graduation, after passing your licensing exam. Not to mention they'll take your payment and deposit it far before it's even updated in their billing system. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Avoid Ms. Cherita, if she doesn't like you she will bully you and kick you out of class for being one minute late. Spend more time learning how to run a school correctly. read more

Very excited, in October 2012, I start making arrangements to move 3,000 miles & enroll in THIS school. Since they only allow u to start a few times all year, I planned on April 1, 2013 the perfect start date. As the end of 2012, I told everyone I talked to at this school NUMEROUS TIMES that I was coming from California and I needed to MAKE SURE I had EVERYTHING I NEEDED TO START ON TIME. BUT Now in the middle of March, 2 weeks before i was trying to start, 7 MONTHS AFTER MY FIRST MEETING AT ARTISTIC ACADEMY, I'm hearing that because my tour was over six months ago, I would have to Re-tour the school before I could even be considered For enrollment. I had missed the tour requirement by 2 weeks, ridiculous!! NOW they wanted me to come back to Retour after I flew out from California to tour Last summer because of their ridiculous policy. I told the school that I'll already toured, and that this is where I wanted to go. NOW they tell me that it didn't matter. I would have to Retour the school if I wanted to attend April 1. Well I already bought a ticket for March 28 To fly. gets worse. NOW they tell me that I needed to be there two weeks before April 1 2013 to tour if i want to attend April 1. NOW after 8 months of calling the school trying to get enrolled, my April 1 start date was not happening Due to my tour expiring. I was really upset after planning this for over a year and already had gone out there to tour the school. The Director told me that I could not start on April 1, because i needed to tour the school. WHY DO I NEED ANOTHER TOUR??? Then the director also tells me I needed to be at the school 1 week before my start date to sign a paper. ARE U SERIOUS? The director told me because I wouldn't be there in time to take the tour and sign some paper by March 26 so I couldn't go to school on the day i had planned on starting for over 9 months now!! My plane ticket was for March 28, but i needed to be there on March 26. LOL FUNNY NO ONE TOLD ME ANY OF THIS AND I TOLD THESE PEOPLE MY SITUATION FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!!! Imagine how I felt standing in an apartment full of boxes, packing to moving 3000 miles away, moving all my stuff out of my California apartment to go to Artistic Academy, to be told by the people at the school that their not going to start me on the day I planned on starting for the past year. I was so upset, on the phone, 3000 miles away. I couldn't believe it. I WAS LIKE ARE, "YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?" I FLEW OUT FROM CALIFORNIA TO TOUR THE SCHOOL LAST YEAR, AND NOW I CAN'T START BECAUSE I NEEDED TO RE-TOUR. WHY?? I'm moving across the country TO GO TO YOUR SCHOOL so why do I need another tour? Why didn't anyone tell me to fly in a week early? Why didn't the people at this school help at all. Well I was Needless to say very upset. I've done so much planning and packing to move 3000 miles to go to THIS SCHOOL. Nobody told me that I needed to be there to the tour the school twice UNTILL it was to late. The director told me that there's nothing she can do. I asked her if i could have a notary sign the paper and i told her i didn't need to re tour but she didn't care. "HER POLICIES" SHE SAID "WOULDN'T LET HER" She told me that I could start on a later date. So after I calmed down, I figured out that I could start on May 6 and go to evening school. I devoted my self to going and I told the director that I WOULD be there on May 6, 2013. Instead of her thinking that I was motivated and determined, she told me that I was threatening her because I said "I will be there" WOW THAT'S INSANE!!! I NEVER THOUGHT IN A MILLION YEARS being DETERMINED AND MOTIVATED.... and saying "I WILL be there MAY 6" would be misconstrued as a threat. Ya she said I was threatening to her, on a phone, 3,000 miles away, in California I was a threat!! That's Crazy and Insane and she has no right to say that. DID SHE EVER STOP AND THINK HOW I FELT, BEING BULLIED AROUND BY THESE PEOPLE AND THEIR POLICES? Well I just had my FINAL meeting with the Director and the Depasquale school. I was really excited and looking forward to going to this school I flew 3000 miles to go, BUT NOW THE DIRECTOR TOLD ME SHE WILL NOT INROLL ME AT ALL. Why i still have no idea. Me and my sister were both going to start on May 6, 2013 and now neither one of us will be attending the school now! The director of the school ruined my future and broke my heart. I am not a threat. I'm just Passionate and determined to finish what I start. And now I have to let everyone know what happended to me so I can vindicate my self. In an industry of people who want to help others. DEPASQUALE DID NOT HELP ME FROM THE MOMENT I SHOWED INTEREST IN THE SCHOOL. They don't treat people with respect. They made me feel like I did something wrong and all I did was ask for help. I had the pleasure of meeting Shannon who gave me the most perfect blow out EVER! I broke my finger and couldn't do my own hair and it was suggested I call up. I hit the lottery because from what I understand you can not request a certain stylist. She has a huge future ahead of her and this girl was Born with her talent I could tell. Let me start off by saying that there are lot of choices out there when it comes to the beauty school industry and Artistic Academy is by far the BEST. Here's why: They truly educate you about the industry, the advancements in technology and products, and genuinely prepare you for a future with their live student salon and spa. They have been around for over 30 years and are one of only a few accredited beauty schools which means financial aid and grants are available, health insurance as a student is also available, in addition other institutions, employers and recruiters recognize this school as being credible and therefore job placement is way easier. Not to mention they have over a 90% pass rate and that is not just for their program but also for state licensure. I for one was hired with no previous experience because I attended this school. Artistic has a reputation for being the best and they truly hold up to that reputation. I honestly believe had I not attended this school I would not be where I am today. Don't attend this school. They lie through their teeth and take advantage of their students. You don't learn anything about the beauty industry. Rather they just drill the same things into your head over and over again. 'State board is the only thing that matters.' The only 'opportunity' (the directors fave word) you'll get is the opportunity to be mediocre. Your opinion is irrelevant. Your talents are looked over. The amazing instructor that I had that helped me pass state board is no longer there. The current director only cares about herself and money and looks. A few teachers there are abusive and criticize your appearance on a daily basis, they don't suggest what you can do better they just tell you that you look like crap.... If I could give it a 0, I would. I attended this "top notch" school, and it was by far the worst experience of my life. Every single staff member is so critical and judges every student. If you do not get on the staffs 'good side' in the first few months, they will screw you over in every way they possibly can. The students then are forced to go into the student salon, and make more money for the school even though you already pay ridiculous amounts to attend. The staff will take and opportunity they can to make you cry, and suspend you.. I was suspended twice for no reasons at all. They are all horrible people with fake personalities. They pretend to care about you and your opinion, but really they will all stab you in the back while being fake to your face. This school is not worth your money, and I could recommend many others where the students are treated as equals. Bottom line is, going to this school is the worst thing I've ever had to go through.
