Approach is a first rate driving school in my opinion. Ms Diane/owner was a pleasure to work with in getting my daughters enrolled in a program that met our needs, reasonable pricing, explained everything, answered all questions we had, and made us feel at ease. Mike Baranello was the instructor for my daughters and was wonderful in teaching them the fundamentals of driving while providing some smart tips during their lessons. He had a great sense of humor which helped in calming their anxiety about driving (and mine), big plus for new drivers (at any age) and made them more confident drivers. He explained/reviewed everything first before heading out on the road, took them on the highways, back roads, and practiced parallel parking, K-turns, etc... It was a great experience for them and now they are preparing to get their license in a couple weeks. I know they will do very well with all they have learned and practiced. Diane and Mike were responsive by text/email to answer questions, confirm lessons, etc... I highly recommend Approach for any new driver young and old and wish I had them when I first learned how to drive. Have to give credit where credit is due! read more

Offered to pay for replacement copy of the certificate - which is a given. Offered nothing in return for the loss of an original document. I can't say enough good things about my experience with Approach Driving School. I'm 38 years old and the older I got, the more afraid of driving I became, so I kept putting off getting my license. Finally I decided I needed to conquer this. My instructor was Fred Eckert and he was great! He was able to put me at ease with his calm demeanor, experience and sense of humor and make me feel confident behind the wheel. I went from being TERRIFIED to drive to parallel parking in Morristown with confidence in six hours. I felt he really went the extra mile to ensure that I knew everything that could come in handy driving in NJ. He took me to the testing site prior to my test and explained the procedure in detail, thus demystifying the whole thing and considerably decreasing my anxiety. Needless to say, I passed my test! If you need to learn to drive stick in Morris County, this is the only place with both an instructor and a vehicle (I called half a dozen other places before this one, so I'm pretty sure about that... it is a bit surprising, but I guess the lack of popularity of manual transmissions in America has something to do with it). I was very happy with my lesson. I was able to get the hang of learning fairly quickly; and credit that to my driving instructor Don, who was encouraging and knowledgeable. They have other services besides learning to drive stick. They also offer the classic six hours of behind the wheel training (for new drivers), road test review, and motorcycle lessons. If you are in the area and need driving instruction, these guys are worth checking out. read more

My first son had lessons with Christine late 2015 and it was a great experience. He just got his license a couple months ago and he's a good driver. Probably the only time I have felt good about going to the DMV. They assigned Mubashra to help me do a review before my test. I had been driving in the US on an international permit, but its not the same when you are giving your test. My parallel parking and K turns were rusty, but she was able to teach me techniques that I was able to grasp within minutes! More than anything, she was very patient with me because I was messing up the first few times. I did just as she told me and I passed the test. Horrible cust. service I scheduled on their website for a 4 pm review and car service for 1 month later. They emailed me said they only on up to 3:30pm. I changed the schedule with DMV and let them know 3:30 is fine. Then they sent me another email saying they only do it up to 2:30 pm. I told them I am confused with these change hearts rapidly, they just don't give a good reason. Horrible!!! If you only do it up to certain time, why don't spell it out on your website??? Or, that's a way of profiling and refusing services to certain people???? read more

My daughter just passed her test. WooHoo! We are so happy with Approach school's service and results. The instructors are patient, kind and methodical. For today's test, Diane (the owner) went above and beyond the call of duty! She met us at Randolph as planned, did the refresher and got in line with the car to take the test. After much waiting, my daughter finally got to the front of the line, ready to take the driving test using the school's vehicle (I don't have a car with a hand brake). However, the proctor let me know that permit had the wrong test written date on it (it said Randolph, May 6) and she wasn't on the roster. They wouldn't let her take the test today. You can imagine how disappointing this was. I went inside and the next available date was in 3 weeks. A search on the computer showed that the test WAS actually scheduled for today (her birthday, May 9), but in RAHWAY. The permit stated Randolph, which is where I scheduled it, in person, a year ago. Clearly a clerical error but we were still out of luck, as I had no way to get a car with a hand brake to Rahway on such short notice. I had to reschedule the test for Cherry Hill (!) for Monday - this was the best they could do. We were about to leave, grumpy and empty handed, but I decided it was a bit insane that we had to endure this disappointment AND cost outlay (I had already paid Approach for the use of the car) for a clerical error. So, I decided to try my luck talking with a superviser outside in the testing area. After much discussion, they agreed to let her in, since it was clearly a DMV mistake. YAH! But now we were 2 hours past the scheduled road test time and our Approach car and instructor had moved on to other appointments. Diane quicky rearranged her own schedule, moved an appointment, and ran over to the test site with the car. She made what could have been an AWFUL birthday for a 17 year old girl into an absolute TRIUMPH and I am so thankful for her caring and response. I'd highly recommend!! read more

Words cannot express how happy we were with Approach Driving School. Our son suffers from anxiety, ADHD, etc... so we opted for the "Gold" Guardian Program with Fred Eckert. This program is designed for people who learn differently and would benefit from special attention. It includes 12 hours of behind the wheel instruction (6 more than the state requires), consultation with the parents/guardians prior to lessons, a 1 hour review prior to the road test, and use of an Approach car for the road test. While this program is more expensive than a traditional 6 hour program, it was worth every penny in our opinion. Fred was excellent in making our son feel comfortable behind the wheel, but also pushed him when needed. He also knew when our son needed a break (2 hours for someone with ADHD and anxiety feels more like 10 hours). Fred even treated our son to a donut during one lesson :) Additionally, Fred built up our son's confidence with his calm demeanor and positive reinforcement. After each lesson, Fred filled us in on our son's progress and strengths and weaknesses. The value of these conversations with Fred cannot be understated as they helped ease our concerns as parents. If you are at all considering the Guardian Program, but are hesitant due to the cost just do it. Your child's first experience behind the wheel can make or break their desire to drive. Fred will definitely make sure it is a positive experience not to mention that the additional cost is worth your piece of mind as a parent. read more

I just moved to Roxbury and needed a company to do a refresher with my son and take him to get is license. I Called the office number to set up road test and refresher for my son. They explained they would take him for a refresher and the test and it would be $150 I specifically asked if they would wait for him to get his license and they said yes. I also had several conversations with the instructor over the weekend about the 6 points he needed. He passed which was awesome Thank you for that. Then I got a call at work from my son that they were taking him home and I would have to bring him to get his license. WTF why do you think I paid them $150 I work Monday through Saturday and I can not bring him to motor vehicle. I called the office and they said they could not wait for him to get his license. I asked why they did not explain this to me when I spoke to them initially or this weekend when I called the instructor about the 6 points. They said it is clearly written on their website they would not wait over 1 hour. I had no reason to go visit their website as it was a referal from another driving company who could not accommodate me. After calling the office several times they had the nerve to say my son does not want to wait. REALLY! So I pay you $150 to provide a service and because my 17 year old son does not want to wait you are going to bring him home. Absolutely not! In the end after several calls to the office they did bring my son back to motor vehicle and dropped him off at 10:00 he was finished by 11:30. Then they sent someone to bring him home. They were very accommodating in the end but It should not have came to that you are paying them $150 to provide a service and it should be completed smoothly not interrupting me at work when I am trying to run a business. If you need an awesome driving school use Varsity Driving in Florham Park NJ 973-377-5646 they did everything smoothly since the day she started her 6 hours. Appointment was set 1 year in advance for her to take her test with an instructor. No surprises! read more
