This is an update to the original review for the DCP creation and delivery done by Archetype Company. We finally got to see the film screened at a festival in all its glory -- projected on 2k on a 40x60 ft screen and it was soooo amazing! The sound, the picture, everything came out perfect and we couldn't be more pleased by the work done by Archetype. There is NO ONE else that I would trust more than John at Archetype for the service he provides and the care he takes in taking your sweat, blood, and tears from post and translating it to a beautiful DCP in either 2k or 4k. If that's 2k I can't wait to see it in 4k!! I highly recommend you do the same and put your film in his hands because he will care for it as if it was your first born. read more

This was my first time needing a DCP made for my short film, and I initially had a DCP auto generated by online company... which proceeded to make a few errors. John graciously fixed their errors for me all while being kind, courteous, and knowledgable. Will definitely be back for all my future DCP creation needs! read more

Easily some of the best customer service I've ever had - if you need a DCP made, go to The Archetype Company! This was my first time I needed a DCP made for my short film and I was pretty unfamiliar about the process and what was needed. However, the Archetype Company couldn't have made the submission process any easier; all you have to do is select some basic specifications for your project and you are given a quote which is very affordable and reasonably priced compared to other options I found. Then you get sent a link to upload your files and then The Archetype Company makes the DCP; that's it. Turnaround time on the website says that it's a few days but I only had to wait a single day for my final DCP after I sent the files over. On top of that, John was incredibly responsible with updates on the process and even notified me of an issue in my film that would impact its ability to be presented in theaters so that I could fix it before the DCP was finalized! Overall this entire experience could not have gone any better; I will absolutely be using The Archetype Company's services again in the future and you should too! read more

If I could give this place a thousand-star rating I would! It's not often that you find an owner like John who truly goes above and beyond to help their clients with such care and support. John is a truly a gem and he's not only kind, but he's incredibly knowledgeable about his craft and delivers a quality project you can trust, and will send all your worries away. Making my first DCP felt incredibly daunting, but John's kindness and immense knowledge of his craft made the whole process so much easier and far less intimidating. He was always quick to respond and handled my film with just the utmost care and truly went above and beyond to answer all my DCP questions and needs. Such a quality product and delivered it within the timeframe that we needed. The quality of the deliverable was also impressive and just such a wonderful value! If you're looking for quality work, reliability, speed, and someone who genuinely cares about filmmakers, The Archetype Company is the absolute BEST place to go, hands down! Such a fantastic experience!! read more

John T. Woods at The Archetype Company helped us with our DCP and generously shared his expertise, time, and attention to detail throughout the entire process. This is your go-to company for DCP etc creation. After reading many of the stellar reviews for John at The Archetype Company here on Yelp and also reading many recommendations for his company on an indie filmmaker Facebook group, my husband and I were convinced that he would get the job done safely and with the best of quality. We were not disappointed. In fact, he was even better than we expected -- Could not ask for a more diligent, talented, knowledgable, communicative, timely and professional expert, who went above and beyond every step of the (expedited) way. You and your film are in the safest hands with John at The Archetype Company. 10/10 recommend if you want the highest quality product, in the most timely and professional, personal and reliable fashion. We look forward to working with him again on our next DCP. read more

I recently completed a documentary and needed a small order of Blu-ray discs to give to my family, who prefer physical media over a YouTube link. Lots of media delivery companies have minimum order sizes, long turnarounds, and upfront pricing can be challenging to find. The Archetype ended up being exactly what I needed! Their (very reasonable) prices were clear and on the website, so I knew what I would pay immediately. John was helpful and friendly at every step of the process, and my discs play perfectly across multiple players. So instead of pulling your hair out trying to burn your blu-rays or DVDs, come to the Archetype and save yourself the headache! I did not utilize their DCP services this time, but after my exemplary customer service experience, I will be coming to The Archetype for all of my future media delivery needs. Thanks, John! read more

All the positive reviews are right on: John's customer service can not be beat. He makes sure you get what you need when you need it and really goes above and beyond expectations. When I had issues with film festivals who "rejected" my DCP, he stepped in to take care of it. (Pretty sure the other company was trying to force me to pay $$$ to make a new DCP with them) No hesitation. FIVE stars. read more

What a breath of fresh air! I recently needed a DCP for a couple of different film festivals, all time sensitive and all had slightly different needs. John at The Archetype Company not only went above and beyond to get my short film ready for its deadlines at multiple festivals but put me at ease through out the entire process. He is extremely professional, reliable, efficient, timely, delivers excellence, and great with communication. John communicated ever step so I never felt in the dark. This company is a lifesaver! I've been cutting internal sizzle reel's for two television projects and was having a very difficult time finding HD footage (legally.) John was able to get me the footage very fast and in a timely manner. This was so easy and will forever change the way I pull footage for pitch projects! High recommend to post houses and other filmmakers. Will also use for my next Acting Reel! read more

I needed a local company to make DCP. I was assigned the job by my boss so I had no idea what exactly I was looking for or the terminology of everything needed to be done. John, was quick to answer the phone and there to help me every step of the way. He explained to me what exactly I needed for screening, timing, drives etc. this place has the best price in the entire Los Angeles area. I called 20 different places and John was the nicest and most helpful out of them all. The best past is that it had a very fast turnaround with no extra sneaky charges. What he said from the first call was exactly the price we got. This company has great communication and user friendly website. Very easy to work with and kept us posted every step of the way.. definitely gonna continue coming for future projects and recommend all the film makers in the industry. Absolutely outstanding work!! John was quick, responsive, and went above and beyond for a small batch order of blu-rays. That's exactly why we went back to him for another order. It was EXACTLY as we requested and combed over by John so diligently to make sure it was the highest possible bar of final product. We have never had a vendor who is as invested in things as we are in our work product. John's not just trying to make a good item - but help make a great film (in our instance). There is, without question, no other person we will go to. As long as John is in business - he has ours. read more

My first time doing a DCP turned out to be the best too! John was extremely helpful from the start. I couldn't believe how fast he responded to all my emails and finished the DCP of my film! I literally sent the video to him at around midnight and he had it ready to be picked up in the very next morning! I was so amazed when I received the final product - everything is neatly labeled and packed in a case. Each DVD and hard drive even has my name, film title and my phone number on it! This way I won't need to worry about losing it at all. John is also super nice, trustworthy, and patient. I knew he is the guy to go to from the get-go! (God knows how many researches I did before this...) I'll definitely do my future DCP with him and refer him to everyone I know. You are the best, John! Keep in touch. read more

The best service I've experienced in LA. We needed DCP files and Blu-Ray DVDs made for our short film and "making of" with a reasonable turnaround and John delivered with ease, even at an affordable price. He was professional, friendly, and simply a downright humble human being our team had the pleasure of doing business with. I wouldn't recommend going anywhere else. read more

Let me just start with this: Archetype is awesome. The owner, John T. Woods, is not only super tech-savvy, super industry-savvy, but also happens to be a really nice guy and has amazing customer service. We had our Blu-rays mastered at Archetype to be distributed as a back-up for our Film Festival screenings. The Blu-rays were perfect, they came in nice clamshell cases and were labeled very clearly and professionally. But it was the playback of our film I was so impressed with - the 5.1 Channel Surround was dead on and our picture looked exactly like it did in our DCP QC and exactly like it did when it played at the TCL Chinese Theatres. I am not going to mention that John stopped by our production office to pick up our hard drive and offered to drop the Blu-rays off as well. Nope, not going to tell you that - because that is an insane level of customer service that I hope people don't take advantage of. So it's best not to mention it. Cannot recommend Archetype enough. read more

Can I give 1,253,678,899 stars? John was so ridiculously helpful in my first go at getting a DCP made for my film. I had lost the film file when my computer crashed and he went out of his way to contact my film editor and somehow come up with a file he could use to create a DCP. I can't thank him enough for saving my film's world premiere! Thanks, John! -Niche DaSilva read more

When I heard from a film festival yesterday they were having issues with our DCP drive, I panicked and contacted John after hours... Despite being slammed with work, he got back to me right away, and had tech support and backup Blu-rays ready for me by lunchtime! Thank you John and Archetype Company for being incredibly clutch, and rescuing our short film's world premiere! read more

John is absolutely the best. I was getting really stressed out with a project I had over to Simple DCP as it was just not going to come out on deadline and the process was frustrating, it was getting really expensive. I called John at Archetype and within two days I had a DCP. So simple, so efficient, he is the KINDEST person, he even went and delivered the DCP straight to the festival for me. Also ... WAY more affordable than anything I've used before! Anyways, hands down will never go anywhere else for DCP's and blu rays. read more

Very helpful indeed! Quick and friendly service. Would recommend this company out to anyone looking for a DCP and Blueray transfer.

Wow. Nothing short of amazing, helpful, communicative, and very fair pricing. John at The Archetype Company rescued our TV Pilot "The High Five" from price-gauging from one of the big corporate DCP conversion companies. Thank you John for making us, as indie film-makers, feel respected and appreciated for our business. Please, if you need a DCP or blu-Ray conversion for your film project, call John at The Archetype Company. You won't be disappointed. read more

John was wonderful to work with. I needed blu rays for a large screening event and not only did he deliver but exceeded my expectations. John was amazing! He and Archetype came very highly recommended and I was not disappointed. Communicative, friendly and fast we went from first conversation to final delivery in less then a week. I was only asking for a small run of DVD's but I found his pricing and service far exceeded other offerings and his level of personal assistance is unmatched. I cannot recommend Archetype highly enough, they will be getting all of my business and they can be trusted with all of yours as well. read more

Wow - some of the best service I've received! John is so nice and helpful. I called him on the phone and he gave me advice on how to finish my project by finding a local printer and saving money (thanks!) I called a lot of similar companies, and the Archetype was by far the most affordable. There was one hiccup with my order, and John fixed it all IMMEDIATELY, free of charge. I have no complaints and will definitely we calling him again in the future! read more

John was incredible to work with, and I can't give this review enough stars to show my full appreciation. I was flying to LA for a film festival and needed a BluRay, and as soon as I got on the phone with John I knew I was in good hands. He knows all of the technical jargon, but also quickly created a personal connection. My film got put on the BluRay and it looked and sounded amazing in the theater! The biggest thing I will say is that John eased my mind throughout the entire process. It can be stressful flying across the country and sorting out logistics for a festival, so I'm thankful that I had John to work with. He's my guy from now on! read more

So just to have a little back story, I intern at this high school as a Multi-Media Specialist and I filmed the show that was put on the theatre department. I had a month to edit and finish everything and of course procrastination at its best, the night I finally finished I didn't know anyone who could burn these DVDs, and I was referred to John and I looked into his website and found this Yelp page. I was totally skeptic about everyone's reviews and I wasn't completely sure if he could get everything to me on time. HE HAD EVERYTHING WITHIN ONE HOUR! And he even re-designed the image of the DVD, it looked so awesome!! Amazing, I was so amazed and still am. Prices were perfect and I'm so grateful to John. Such a nice guy and is willing to work with you. I am definitely coming back, so good! read more

Archetype DVD is a company that makes you realize just how good customer service can be. The owner is attentive, professional, honest, and incredibly fast. What a relief to get such great service from one guy and not have to deal with being put on hold, transfers to another department, listening to terrible music while you're waiting in a queue... And if they're not in, you get a response within one day (in my experience). Everything is professional quality and they really go the extra mile from meeting me in person outside his home office to collect my reel (parking is tight) to printing my actor info directly onto my DVDs. And for a shockingly low price. I did my research. This little company is a total gem. Once you've found them you'll laugh at how much you've spent at other places with lower quality service for the same if not higher quality product. read more

John not only goes above and beyond on delivering the product you ask for, he's also a really friendly, flexible and informative guy. I had him burn 5 dvd's for a seminar I had filmed but I rendered the files in the wrong format - lesson learned - and I might not have realized it unless John pointed it out. He then worked around my crazy schedule for me to redo it, gave me a discount, made really nice labels with the company's logo (Much nicer than what I asked for) and delivered them to me at my place when I was sick. I not only will be going back to John for all dvd burning/labeling needs, I may just have to buy him a beer some time for saving my butt. read more

I was incredibly impressed with John & this business. He was able to explain technical details that I did not know went into getting a DCP made for a film. He was patient, knowledgeable, gracious and kind through the entire process. I had a DCP, multiple Blu-rays and DVDs made, and it was all cost effective and in a timely manner. I thank John for his incredible service and will most definitely be working with him in the future, and recommending him to fellow filmmakers. read more

I love when you choose the rating of 5 stars, it says 'Woohoo! As good as it gets!' and that's certainly the truth with Archetype DVD! I was a little green regarding DVD duplication for a short film I produced. John was real awesome in fixing a framerate issue I had in order to duplicate the DVD's, had taken just an image and text that I provided and created the design of the label itself that would go on the DVD's (looks real cool!) and was very communicative and responsive throughout the whole process... In addition to John being a real kool kat, he turned around an order for me for 100 DVD's in under 6 hours AND (after researching online) it was LESS THAN HALF THE COST of some other post-production DVD duplicators out there... what what?! John has his own films that are submitted to film festivals, so he's well-versed with the ins and outs of different formats, standard and unique requirements, etc. I'll be hitting up Archetype DVD again for more DVD's if I need them, and when it potentially comes time for other formats for film festivals. I strongly recommend! :) read more

I needed a DCP of my short film, along with two Blu-Ray copies as backups for festival screenings. I was recommended to go with John at Archetype, and I'm seriously never going anywhere else. Turnaround time: I sent my first message to John during the afternoon on Tuesday, and as I write this review at noon on Saturday, I've already received my DCP drive and Blu-rays. Not to mention, I couldn't even upload my original file until Wednesday night. It's unreal how good that turnaround is. Quality: the film itself looks absolutely pristine. I'm super happy with the quality of the work on the digital side of things, and the physical items supplied are top notch, from the Blu-Ray discs themselves to the sturdy case the DCP drive is in. Everything is labeled cleanly and professionally, and I'm excited to show it all off. Experience: communicating with John was such a breeze. He was always super quick to respond (and I don't even mean the "24 Hours or Less" that his website says; maybe I caught him at good times, but I genuinely never had to wait over an hour for a response). His emails were always very detailed while remaining easy to read. As a first time filmmaker, I had some questions about the process, and he was happy to answer my questions and help me find the best options. I live in North Hollywood, so I picked up my items in person, and John was ready for me right on time. Perfect service from start to finish. All in all, I can't say enough good things about this business and about John himself. If you're on this Yelp page, then you're seeing just how many people love his work. I'd highly recommend him to anyone who needs this type of work done, whether you're a new filmmaker like me or an industry veteran. Give him a shot, and he'll make a lifelong customer out of you too! read more

After being on Yelp for years, I think this is actually the first time that I actually took a moment to write a review.
