The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory

Ever since I migrated to the US, I'm so lucky to choose Burbank as my permanent residence. I truly…read morelove it here. Known as the Media Capital of the World, Burbank is where all the studios are located, Disney, Warner Bros, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, NBC, ABC, etc. It's no surprise if you bump into movie personalities in the mall, movies, bank and other business establishments. My neighbors are pretty much in the entertainment industry. You would think considering my location and business connections, you would think I'd been to all the tapings available. On the contrary, I don't. Yes, I've been to Jay Leno once as a VIP guest so I didn't have to line up and I even had a souvenir photo with him. But that was it. Until I got an invite to see Big Bang Theory on 8/21/18. Although my ticket stated to show up at 5pm, I was actually in line at 3:30 although show starts at 6:30. I didn't want to miss my spot because I had a guest who lives out of town. Too late for me to find out that I actually had priority tickets which is basically a guaranteed spot. Oh well! My guest and I had seats 5 and 6 so which were in the second row just behind the staff guests. Our seats were right in front of the famous staircase, on its left is Penny's apartment and in the right is Sheldon's. We were so near that we see the stars up close. On the day of our visit, the entire cast was there along with Kathy Bates and Tyler. It's a pretty cool experience and I'm glad to have attended especially when they announced the next day that BBT is finally ending. The taping we saw is actually going to be the first episode for their final season.

I love the Big Bang Theory; I think it's the greatest show on earth!!…read more However the process though of getting a ticket to the Big Bang Theory is the biggest pain; it's not worth it unless you really really like the show. Tickets are obtained at Audiences Unlimited which does most sitcoms in Hollywood. Their site is easy and quick until you want to get tickets for this show which usually come out Mondays. The problem is that their website sucks on this day. It constantly times out and has web errors assuming from so many people overloading it with requests for this show. It reminds me of trying to call a radio station when they are doing a giveaway or a casting director at Central Casting when they've put a job on their recorded line. You would think Audiences Unlimited would invest in more bandwidth but I assume since it's the only show that does this they don't see the need. So if you want a ticket to this show you really have to be very patient and have nothing to do for a few hours Monday morning. I've been lucky enough to get through twice and both times I've literally spent 2 hours trying to get tickets and these weren't even real tickets but standby tickets. I've never ever seen a regular ticket, I don't know if they even exist. Also you can only request 1 ticket at a time. They say this has something to do with the studio so if you want to go with your friend it's best that both of you do it separately. It's possible to request 1 ticket then go back to do another but you also run the risk of space being gone by the time you are finally able to get through again If you are lucky enough to have snagged a standby ticket pat yourself on the back. It doesn't end here though because there is still a very likely chance you won't get in. It really just depends on how many family and friends VIP tickets they have given out who don't show up. That is what the standby audience is for. The first time I went with a standby ticket I didn't get in and I got there early. The next time I got there really, really early and I was still like the 10th person in line. Though this is all annoying to do this for a ticket you can see really it reflected in the audiences that shows up. The audience at the Big Bang Theory are true, true, loyal, loving fans who are willing to come early and wait a whole day to see the show just like the old days where people would camp out somewhere to get tickets to a rock concert. Most of them are wearing Big Bang Theory shirts, hats, sweatshirts, etc and it's like a little community when you are waiting, kind of like the parking lot at a Grateful Dead concert without all the tie dye and drugs. I'm naturally a little shy in big groups of people but I felt very comfortable and outgoing here. It was easy to mingle with people I guess since everyone shared a common interest. I met 2 girls that said they went every week, I met some foreign tourists that just adored the show and were giddy that they got to go to a 'real Hollywood TV taping', I met a pilot from back East who was attending the taping during a layover between flights. For the taping I would prepare to make it a day production. Bring a book, magazines, snacks,-lots of them, a lawn chair or somewhere to sit comfortably because bench space is limited, bring cards or other games to play with the new friends you'll make. Bring sunscreen, a hat, better yet a small umbrella because part of the parking lot (yes, you are actually in a parking lot waiting) doesn't have shade. It's actually pretty fun as long as you treat it as a day- long event and come prepared. As for the show I was lucky enough to get a seat in the front row which made the experience so much better, I think it would be different if I was in the back rows because you can't see as much. You can tell that this cast and crew of this show were very special. At the end of the taping Kaley and Kunal gave out autographs. They thanked everyone and said that they were happy to be there and were happy to be able to be working in something that they loved. I wish Jim Parsons would have come out but he probably would have gotten mobbed due to Sheldon's popularity. I love this show and felt it was a great experience; I would definitely go again however the whole process would have been the biggest pain in the ass had I not absolutely adored the show.

I've been renting out CML's stage for a while now. I've shot several music videos and commercials…read morehere and I have to say it's one of my favorite places to work in. Not only the stage is in great condition, affordable, and located in a nice area of Glendale. You can also rent flats to build sets, and some lights and grip. The owner (Carlos) is such a great person to work with too. He understands all aspects of production and will make sure you get the best deals for the projects you end up shooting there. I really recommend CML studios. I have shot at some other stages/studios, but definitely this place feels like home to me... and that my friends, is hard to find.

I've never posted a review of a business before because I don't feel it's appropriate to impact a…read morebusiness' livelihood. However my experience was so bad that I don't feel I have any choice. My suggestion to anyone wanting to rent this place is this: if you are looking for a place that treats their customers courteously, don't go here. I booked the studio "as is" for which they offer a lower price. I booked it for the white cyclorama. However, when I arrived the white cyclorama was not white. It was completely filthy and covered with tire tracks as if someone had done donuts on it. The picture below shows I'm not exaggerating. Here's the thing: I assumed "as is" means scuffs, marks, dirt, sure. I *assumed* this. Absolutely. There's a reason it's a lower price. It wouldn't be perfect. But completely gray as if it hadn't been painted in a year? That's not a white cyc. That's a gray cyc with literal tire tracks across it. A salesman who had any concern for the quality of their customers shoot would've said "hey guys, by the way, the bottom of the cyc is completely trashed from a previous shoot. You may want to pay to repaint it before you come it." And I WOULDVE. Because the shoot was expensive and spending a little more to make sure it didn't look like a construction zone wouldve been worth it. Carlos' suggestion was to have someone come and repaint it during our shoot time. It would've taken at least two hours to paint and dry. Even if we were credited another hour, I had already paid for a camera man, four dancers, and a make up artist for a block of time. The trashed cyclorama already took nearly two hours to figure out how to Light and avoid showing the entire gray bottom on camera. Adding more time was not an option. This could've all been avoided with a simple courtesy call to let us know their cyclorama was not just scuffed, but completely trashed and *no longer white.* We wanted to postpone the shoot but Carlos wouldn't refund the money. So we had to make do. The second red flag was the "soft light pre lit" option I paid for. Setting up four c stands on the outside of the cyc in no particular order, not caring at all how it was exposing the cyclorama is once again lazy and unconcerned for the quality of their customers experience. Finally, Carlos kept bringing people in to look at the space while we were in the middle of our project. We had girls changing in the make up room. There was never any asking if that was okay, he just continued to walk in with a few couples showing them the space while we worked. Extremely inappropriate. I have done dozens of shoots before. This place is not worth your time. Do yourself a favor and find a place that values their customers. This place doesn't.

But then, we had a second mandate, which was shooting a car driving from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. We drove a car right into their studio and spent two days getting every possible angle PERFECTLY, composited. Not to mention, because of the ease of the working environment, and Brett's skill with the green screen, we added a fantasy sequence that we shot in two hours! But this isn't simply a "green screen" studio (we actually called it GREEN-LAND because of it infinite possibilities) it is the BEST working environment imaginable. Makeup rooms, dressing rooms, green rooms - every one gorgeous and so clean and well appointed - our actors felt like STARS. And that's just the facility. The PEOPLE who run LA Castle Studios? Top even the excellent facility. The Pipher family (it's a family-run business and the Pipher's run it oh-so-well) were BEYOND accommodating. That studio was OURS from the moment we loaded in. The only question they ever asked is "how can we be more helpful?" I have been making movies in LA for 30 years and this is the BEST experience I've EVER had. I cannot recommend this place or these people more highly. You truly need to try it to believe it. But it is DEFINITELY true. LA Castle Studios is THE BEST!
