The Aperture knocked it out of the park!
There's something for every palette, and even the pickiest eater.
The menu is so fun. Lots of opportunities to try something new, and also to pick a tried and true go-to in a new preparation. I highly encourage you to come hungry and play around the menu.
First Course:
My dining pal got the chicken liver to start. I grabbed the Caesar salad. I normally skip the salad but I came hungry and had to start with something! It was good. Normal for a salad. The croutons were a huge hit at the table.
Main Course:
For dinner, the choice was easy for me. If Branzino is on the menu, I always have to order it. Sotto is my favorite restaurant in the city, and their Branzino is definitely the metric to compare every other Branzino to. I have to say, Aperture is a worthy competitor. It was tender, light, refreshing, and still so flavorful. My dining pal ordered the lamb. I love lamb. In the bite I had off their plate, it was okay. It was definitely a hearty, flavorful and Mediterranean preparation. But, it felt like the flavors were competing with each other, rather than complimentary. However, it wasn't my main dish. And, as for my friend who did order it, they loved it. Clean plate! For our sides, and I HIGHLY suggest you order these sides, we grabbed the carrots and mushrooms. Everything I read before going, noted the carrots as a must-try. I do not disagree. Again though, the flavors felt overbearing and competing. I don't think they needed to add so much to them. The mushrooms though! Holy wow!!! I took some home and had them for breakfast the next day, and they were even better! These are by far the must-try!
Third Course:
For dessert, we ordered the key lime bar. It was nice. It was very clearly straight from the cooler, as the crust was a bit tough to cut through. But the flavors were so incredibly delightful, light, refreshing, and fun. I'd say just pull it out of the cooler sooner.
The ambiance is some where between upscale coffee shop and open kitchen environment. The lighting absolutely makes the difference here. They have this right! It made it warm and inviting, giving it a neighborhood feel, but with a high-end dining experience.
The service is by far another reason to come here. They were on it. Super impressive how much they have nailed this already- having been only open for one week. We were greeted with a smile, they catered to our table request, helped us sift through the drink options, and were generous in sharing their suggestions. They were fun and attentive. Professional and personal. Well done!
I will definitely be back! Firstly, for those mushrooms! read more
