Okay, I know I'm getting a little heavy-handed with the 5-star reviews but this place deserves it! First thing I noticed was that the hours are great! Usually these specialty shops close the same time I get off work but this one is open until 7pm on most days. Second, the store is spotless! Everything is shiny, dust-free, and organized. It has a very classy feel to it. All of the flavors are properly labeled and clean as well. Third, SAMPLES! You're allowed to taste test all of the oils and vinegars. Believe me, you'll fall in love with at least 5. Personally, I loved the Neopolitan Herb dark balsamic vinegar. I tried that and the Vermont Maple, Coconut, Golden Pineapple, Gravenstein Apple, and the Honey Ginger. All of them were exquisite! Probably the best part of my trip was talking to the owner who educated me on the differences of the vinegars and oils, answered my questions about the origins of her products, and suggested many options for cooking. For instance, marinate pork chops in the blueberry vinegar, use the Cinnamon Pear on sweet potato fries, marinate pork loin in the pineapple and the coconut vinegars for a Hawiian pulled pork, and marinate steaks in the dark chocolate or espresso vinegars. I couldn't purchase anything at the time of my visit because I was on my lunch break and didn't have time after my conversation with the owner. But please believe I am TOO excited about going back to purchase a variety of vinegars and oils!

Italian food review at Positano Italian Restaurant in DeLand!…read more We tried the chicken parmigiana and penne alla vodka with chicken. Lunch came to $39 before tip, including a Diet Coke and water. The food was good, and I'd give the taste an 8/10. However, I was hoping for a little more of a "wow" factor, especially in the presentation. I'll admit I'm a tough critic when it comes to Italian cuisine because of my Italian background! Overall, Positano is worth a second visit. Next time, I'll try something different and see if I find that extra-special dish. Our server was attentive and did a great job! I had lunch on Saturday, October 17th, and was greeted at the door by a waitress who was friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was empty since it was the start of the lunch hour. Ambience is not high on the list beyond what is organically provided by residing in an historic building off the main drag. This is, after all, a college town. There was a small bar in front of the kitchen with a TV silently showing an Italian cooking show. I first availed myself of the restroom. It was clean and organized. Hot water at the sink was not immediately available. But it was serviceable for its use, no doubt having experienced a lot of use. Once seated, I ordered a Diet Coke, which did not seem mixed quite right. A minor flaw, but portentous. i also had a double espresso, which was well made and balanced. Only one kind of sugar was available, it seemed, so raise your game. The diligent server then took my order of caprese salad and a calzone with pepperoni and meatballs. In large urban areas this is pretty much basic and reliable Italian fare. The sliced mozzarella on the caprese was fresh and cool, the tomatoes just ripe enough. Black olives provided with the salad were canned. The dressing was skimpy and standard grocery fare. Not much flare or attention to detail in presentation or the food on the plate. Just (pre?) sliced mozzarella and tomatoes on a plate. Safe, but nothing I cannot do for myself. They should 86 the olives. Try harder or don't bear the expense. Also, this course requires basil, seasoning, and nuance. No real effort was apparent. This is, after all, an appetizer. The customer should want more after this initial introduction. The calzone was apparently reheated or overcooked, I couldn't quite tell because I had to cut it forcibly with my knife. The ricotta seemed fine mixed with the pepperoni and ground meatball mix, but along the way a sour aftertaste became noticeable. I was on holiday and just wanted a good and safe meal. I ate what was presented, but soon regretted the decision. Determined not to be completely defeated on my jaunt, I decided to try the cannoli. This was a "c" meal: caprese, calzone, cannoli. It was actually freshly made and delicious. Perhaps they should limit themselves to dessert. Good cannoli is a keystone discriminator among Italian restaurants. The cooking show silently playing on the TV showed a chef preparing simple but imaginatively prepared Italian food. I wanted to be there instead of sitting in the establishment I was in. Overall great service and dessert, but it didn't make up for pedestrian (at best) food. I soon experienced indigestion that lasted the entire day, requiring an antacid. I won't be going back.

This will definitely be a place to go when we visit our friends. This is what the name implies, a bar, nothing else. They have tables, seating at the bar and high-top tables. They have a few food options, mostly appetizers with a few sandwiches and quesadillas. We did not get any food since we had just eaten dinner. Apparently, their cowboy candy is the most popular item, its candied jalapenos over cream cheese with crackers. Maybe next time. They do sell bottle beer; it is really what most of the alcohol consists of. They do have their menu divided into categories so if you know what you are looking for it helps. They also have draft beer which rotates throughout the year, so there might be something new on the menu. I personally am not a huge fan of specialty beer like sours, and porters, but my husband is so he really enjoyed looking through the different options. I honestly cannot remember the two beer my husband tried but I know one had a really high ABV and the other one was really sour. He seemed to enjoy both, so I guess that's good. I choose to get a glass of wine instead. They have only a few wine options but also have mead. I have never had it before, but our friends were very much fans of it. The wine selection is small, but I just went with a Moscato. All in all, this is a fine bar if you are in the area. I would say if you were not a beer fan this might not be for you. They do not make any liquor style drinks only beer and wine. All in all, not bad, we would for sure go back when visiting friends in the area.

The interior hasn't changed much over the years. The flooring and booths look just as I remember, though the tables in the back might be newer. Either way, it's clean--and that's what counts. It's actually a bit nostalgic... like stepping into a time capsule where the pizza never let you down. We stopped in around 3:30 on a Friday and were surprised to find it incredibly busy for that time of day. No problem--the staff handled the crowd like pros. And while the pizza is very good (which is the main event), don't overlook the service: professional, friendly, and fast. Prices have always been fair--something that feels almost nostalgic these days too. So really... why go anywhere else for a pie? Enjoy!

Honestly, that's the best way to do it because you get to experience two incredible sandwiches in one meal. Both were packed with flavor, made with high-quality ingredients, and far exceeded our expectations. The fries were cooked perfectly--crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. They also serve a house-made tomato ketchup that's a little sweeter than traditional ketchup, and it's a fun, unique touch if that's your style. Service was just as impressive as the food. The staff was genuinely welcoming, attentive without being overbearing, and checked in at all the right times to make sure we had everything we needed. I also enjoyed a fantastic black iced coffee from Trilogy Coffee. One of our favorite surprises was that our server brought us complimentary boiled peanuts. Neither of us had ever tried boiled peanuts before, and they were absolutely incredible! It was such a thoughtful Southern touch that made the experience even more memorable. Great food, generous portions, very reasonable prices, friendly people, a clean restaurant, and a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the jumbo lump crab cakes that comes with 2 decent size crab cakes packed with crab meat. As sides, I ordered the caesar brussels and potatoes. The sides were great and the potatoes were a combination of different potatoes which I liked. My mom had the chicken and dumplings and she had rave reviews to give. Everyone pitched in and no one said "I'll get your server" when I asked a question. Excellent. The restaurant is very unassuming, and I didn't know how to answer the questions about it. It appears, to me, tantamount to a take out restaurant with no counter and plenty tables, 13 to be exact on the inside in a semi intimate space and another 4 outside tables. It is about 6pm on a Friday and the restaurant has plenty of customers. The side salad was plenty good although a tad too much dressing for me. The entree was delicious. I am always apprehensive when eating a whole fish due to the bones. I had a few close calls. The fish was delectable and light, with a tasty lemony seasoning. Excellent choice for someone who loves whole fish and is not afraid of leaving a bone in. The lemon roasted potatoes were a good side choice. Overall I enjoyed my meal and experience and found it well priced for what I received and I will definitely come back to try other great selections.

I don't know if it's the hectic traffic or because I am heading south and the entrance is on the opposite side of the road; regardless, what I can tell you is that I have been missing out because Gaff's is freaking awesome! First of all, the shop is kept in immaculate order and very clean. There is adequate space in between isles allowing ample room for customers to shop. The staff are friendly and are quick to assist when needed; however, if you're here to purchase meats or deli items, be sure to take a number at the door. Gaffs has an extensive selection of butchered meats to choose from such as: - Pork Products: sausage, bratwurst, port tenderloin, pork country ribs, pork roasts, stuffed pork chops, baby back ribs, ground pork, and ground sausage. - Beef Products: Porterhouse, T-bones, New York strip, Tenderloin, Ribeye, Ribs, ground beef, brisket, Roasts, flat iron steak, sirloin, cube steak, flank steak, London broil, chuck eye steak, stew cut beef. - Poultry Products: whole chicken, quartered chicken pieces, multiple pieces wings/thighs by the pound, stuffed chicken breasts, marinated chicken, whole duck, duck breasts, quail, Cornish game hen, and turkey. - Seafood: a variety of salmon, yellowfin tuna, flounder, red drum, red snapper, cod, scallops, a variety of shrimp with and without the shell, clams, oysters, king crab legs, and a decent selection of frozen seafood items. Honestly, the list goes on and on. Gaffs has everything! They have fresh sliced deli meats, fresh vegetables, ready to cook stuffed mushrooms, homemade pot pies and pies, pizzas, soups, dips, hot sauces, BBQ sauces, cheeses, pickles, desserts, cakes, pre-made meals, and so much more. On my most recent visit, I picked up 1lb of hot Italian sausage and 1lb of sweet Italian sausage ($5.49 per lb each) for a low country boil we were throwing together for a party. We grilled the sausage, let it cool, sliced it, and added it to the boil which gave the dish a wonderful flavor and heat everyone enjoyed. It was difficult trying to keep the masses back as the sausage was coming off the grill, LOL. I plan to return to Gaffs soon! I look forward to purchasing some of their steaks, pot pies, and other specialty items for upcoming dinner events. If you have never been to Gaff's before, I highly recommend stopping in to see what they have to offer.

I ordered 5 lbs of bone-in short ribs weeks in advance for Thanksgiving--at the staff's own suggestion when I inquired about availability. I provided my pickup date and time as requested, and received two confirmation calls leading up to the holiday. Despite all this preparation, the actual pickup was frustrating and disorganized. When I arrived at my scheduled time on the day before Thanksgiving, the shop was using the standard take-a-number system that completely ignored appointment times. The chaos was predictable--dozens of customers were there for pre-orders--but the system failed at multiple points. Numbers were called too quietly in a loud, crowded shop, and the LED display wasn't consistently updated. Staff gave customers mere seconds to respond before moving to the next number, causing people to be skipped repeatedly. I waited 40 minutes past my scheduled pickup time. When I finally reached the counter, my order wasn't prepared. After weeks of advance notice and multiple confirmations, they had a 3 lb package and a 12 lb package available--neither matching my 5 lb order. I settled for 6 lbs (half of the larger package), which required additional cutting and another 10-minute wait. What's most disappointing is that this was entirely preventable. The day before Thanksgiving is obviously their busiest day of the year, but it's also completely predictable. Pre-orders were advertised in-store for over a month. Simple measures--dedicated staff for pre-orders, a separate pickup area, orders prepared ahead of time--would have prevented this chaos. Instead, the staff seemed dismissive when confronted with their lack of preparation. I understand holiday rushes can overwhelm any business, but this wasn't a rush--it was a failure to plan for a workload they actively solicited and had weeks to prepare for. For a business that asks customers to plan ahead with pre-orders, I expected them to do the same. I won't be returning.
