Spooky menu is out! Super excited to try these out I'm so glad they ended up doing it.

Cruised in during Carolina Hurricane Fan Fest to get out of the run and was wholly satisfied with the decision. Darius kindly opened shop early and served up a quality Old Fashioned and Whiskey Sour. Always appreciate a local "hole-in-the-wall" spot with good service and drinks. Stop by if you find yourself perusing downtown.

If you are visiting the Natural History Museum or The Museum of Natural Sciences you will probably work up quite a thirst. The good news is the Anchor Bar is right dow the street within walking distance. Do yourself a favor and Trot on down and order an Old Fashioned. You will be glad you did.

Cute, nautical themed cocktail bar on Fayetteville St! I do like how they decorated the place for Christmas time. Ended up stopping in for a drink before heading to dinner, I went with a Dark & Stormy for $9. Not a huge fan of the rum that was used but the drink tasted okay. The lime that was served was a tad dehydrated.. If you are looking for a pint of beer, they have two on tap, bottles and cans available. Service was okay, I did not feel as welcomed. I think that she was focused on other things. I would be interested in trying Anchor Bar during a time with another bartender.

I had almost forgotten about Anchor Bar when we stumbled upon it while roaming downtown one Sunday afternoon. It's conveniently located close to lots of restaurants, and I really like the cozy size. Ryan, the bartender, was super friendly and did a great job taking care of a packed bar all on his own. He whipped up his version of a classic piña colada which was just as pretty as it was delicious. This is a great after dinner (or brunch) spot for custom cocktails - highly recommend!

Casual nautical themed bar with a nice selection of beers and interesting craft cocktails. My friend and I came for pre-dinner drinks and the place was understandably quiet, definitely much different to the usual weekend night crowd that I'm used to seeing here. I ordered the Matcha Fizz, which didn't have much of a "fizz" in it, but was light and refreshing for the hot day. I also tried some of my friend's Vanilla Old-Fashioned and enjoyed the subtley sweet vanilla essence to the classic drink. Overall a nice, clean bar to stop by on Fayetteville - there are a few more cocktails on the menu that I'd love to try next time!

The Anchor Bar is my newest favorite place in downtown Raleigh for a tasty libation or three :) Located on Fayetteville near the Hargett intersection, Anchor Bar has a lovely little outdoor seating area as well as tons of cozy stools to belly up to the bar inside. They even allow your dogs inside! :) Oh & they often have a live DJ on Friday/Saturday nights to turn things up. The bartenders are great and the drinks are even better! Kellie, Layton, & Billy really know how to make some damn good drinks. Truthfully, I'm a huge craft beer fanatic and like their beer selection (&they just got a beer on tap!!)..$4 Raleigh Brewing cans is a sweet deal (though its $3cans on Wednesday)! Moscow Mule Monday is also a favorite- $6 for any mule of your liking. I also love the Cucumber Ricky- a gin drink with meddled cucumbers, it's so refreshing for a hot day. Last but not least, the popcorn.... oh, that popcorn. Who knew a little bar could make such a tasty treat? Best of all, it's free for your enjoyment in little wooden bowls! They sprinkle old bay seasoning on it, and it's truly something to be reckoned with. Between the good drinks, decent beer selection, and oh-so-tasty popcorn, why wouldn't you find yourself here one night?!

Due to a local downpour, I strategically ran into the Anchor Bar to avoid getting soaked but what a nice spot! Long and lean, the place forgoes the dark and sultry look for a lighter ambiance. Green-hued, aquamarine paint, glow lighting, it's a small spot dominated by a long bar. The bartender greets me and I grab a seat at the end. Anchor Bar has a smallish list of beers and cocktails which is fine by me, reasonably priced. After I finish my beer, I am outta here but I enjoyed my short visit to the Anchor Bar. While it was different than what I expected, a cool space with a cool bartender is most of the battle when it comes to bars. And the Anchor Bar, certainly has that going for it...

If you like a more spacious atmosphere, come here before 11:30pm. I like the fact that this bar is small and cozy. I also really always like the DJ they have. Cocktails are always pretty good. Wish they had a longer beer list, but it's an enjoy selection. They have hell yes ma'am right now so I'm good. Waiters are pretty attentive and quick. The dim indoor lighting gives this a nice chill evening vibe.

Bottom line: I like Fayetteville Street's new cocktail destination. The Anchor Bar offers a brighter, lighter environment with some inventive cocktails to enjoy. Positive attentive staff adds to the experience. I will be stopping by The Anchor Bar more in the future! The Deets: The DTR Fayetteville St. area has a new custom cocktail bar in The Anchor Bar. I had the opportunity to attend their first night/soft opening and liked what I saw. The staff had the place ready to go and they were eager to serve up some new inventive libations for us that night. First off, I like that it's a bit brighter than a lot of the cocktail bars opening up recently. It's not overly dim like a cave (many of the new bars are) but not blindingly bright, I like the environment. It's not as long/deep as many of the bars along that strip but its feel is upbeat and cozy, check out the pics I nabbed. Lots of stools available along the bar and small wall tables are along the left side as you come in. I started out the night along the bar and started sampling some of their crafts. I did snap a pic of their menu they are opening up with that includes their custom cocktails, craft beers, and other beers available. I tended to like the Whiskey Smash (Bulleit bourbon, mint leaves, simple syrup, and lemon) out of all of them as it was light with just the slight hint of mint so it is not overwhelming. I did also try the Ramos Gin Fizz that had a citrus soda type of feel (Bombay Sapphire gin, lemon, lime, simple syrup, cream, egg white, Orange Blossom water, vanilla extract) and the Smog Cutter (Vida Mezcal, ginger simple syrup, lemon, topped with Negra Modelo)...I like both of these creations as well. From my inspection there were happy customers with smiles on their faces, I had a smile on mine. They were near capacity and going strong on opening night!

This place was absolutely amazing. All I can say is, we made a lot of happy noises while eating,…read moreand there were plenty of "oh my God" moments at the table. From the staff to the manager to the food, everything was on point. The food truly speaks for itself. They serve small plates, which we love because it gives you the chance to try different things and experience a variety of flavors. We started with the fried pork belly on tostones. It was perfectly seasoned, topped with avocado, and every bite just melted in your mouth. Next, we had the tamarind sticky ribs with a tamarind mango barbecue sauce. This was a perfect example of how simplicity can create complex flavors. The ribs were cooked just right -- not completely falling off the bone, but tender enough that when you bit into them, the meat pulled apart so easily. They were juicy, full of flavor, and had just the right touch of spice from the chili flakes. Then we moved on to the mini arepas, and oh my God. They had slow-cooked pork, guava barbecue sauce, and fried papas on top. The arepa itself was crispy on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside. The savory pork paired with the sweetness of the guava barbecue sauce was incredible, and the crunch from the fried papas took it to another level. Now, I have a bit of a sweet tooth, but my wife does not. I wanted dessert, and we were leaning toward the tres leches, but our waitress highly recommended the bread pudding. I am not usually a fan of bread pudding at all, but her recommendations had been on point all night, so I decided to trust her. I am so glad we did. They take a Mexican bolillo, soak it overnight in tres leches, then pan-sear it to create this crispy caramelized outside while keeping the inside warm, soft, and sweet. It is topped with crema and toasted coconut, then they pour warm guava syrup over it and serve it with a scoop of coconut sorbet. The layers of flavor in that dessert were unreal. Honestly, it may have been the best dessert we have ever had. And remember, my wife is not big on sweets -- she usually only takes one bite of dessert, but this time she tried to eat over half of it. Lol. I highly recommend this place. The food, the service, the drinks, and the atmosphere were all amazing. And after dinner, you can even head upstairs to work off the food with salsa lessons and a dance club. This is definitely a spot worth checking out! Me alegra muchísimo haberlo hecho. Jajaja.

Sweet, salty, buttery chaos in the best way. For the main, I went with the pork chop and greens. The greens had a nice little kick of heat, but I kept waiting for that deep smoky ham hock flavor to show up like an old Southern grandma entering the kitchen... and it never quite arrived.
