Came here for a date with my wife. Brian, our waiter was attentive to every detail, a true master at his craft. The mixed drinks were a homerun. I had a smoked old fashion. My wife had the Peppermint white Russian. Both drinks were very satisfying. My wife and I both had the French onion soup for starters. The French onion soup is silky smooth, and sodium levels were perfect for both of us being on opposite sides of the salt spectrum. My wife's entrée was the poached salmon, I had the 12 oz ribeye, rare. Both entrées were perfect, cooked to perfection. The seasoning on the ribeye and outside crust on the ribeye was perfect. I will definitely come back here for another return date. Even if it's just for the French onion soup and fries tossed in beef fat and black truffle oil (YUM!). We split the Chocolate Pot de Creme for dessert. It was a small serving, but man, it was so good. The perfect finish to our dinner. Great, great job, guys! read more

The restaurant is beautiful with tin ceilings, wooden floors & lovely painting above their wainscoting. It is dimly lit & paint work is dark but makes one feel antique & elegant. We had Coco van with tiny potatoes , delicious carrots, mushrooms & pearl onions. I wished for more of the veggies. The chicken was plentiful & tender. I had their French onion soup & at first I thought it was so small but as you eat it, you realize it is filling. It was, I thought, too salty but delicious. My son had 10 oz prime NY strip steak although it was thick. It was delicious. His complaint was the steak knife was not a steak knife & made the thick cut of meat hard to cut. Lots of confusion for seating. First person asked if we had a reservation and asked a second person if they could seat us since we didn't have one. After approval and a "follow me" a third person raced up and said loudly "Do you have a reservation?" And we just kept walking to our seats with person number one. No menus for several minutes. Almost asked the people next to us if they were done with their menus since they were awkwardly eating their meals with all the menus still on the small table. Tables too close together, almost impossible to get to the inside bench seat without knocking something off the next table, and no hope for even semi-private conversation. Way too hot inside, front door wide open on a hot, muggy late afternoon, and (fruit?) flies had to be batted away at the beginning of the meal. Excellent glass of wine, quick bread service with (oddly cut) radishes and sweet butter, Garlic chicken and mashed potatoes were very good, although not noticeably garlicky. Steak was medium to medium well on the outside (as ordered) but bright red on the inside. I think the grill was too hot. Waiter, though sweet and fairly attentive, seemed awkward and slightly nervous. read more

My husband and I had an amazing meal here. We sat at the bar and chatted with the manager, Jenny, throughout lunch. She answered our questions about the restaurant, where the idea came from, the sauces, and the wine list. We both chose the prix fixe menu, which was amazing. The salad with house Dijon dressing was tasty, and the steak could pretty much be cut with a fork after being cooked sous vide style. Both types of fries were good and we tried all 3 sauces (the secret sauce was our fave) for the steak. Dessert selection was excellent and we got to say hello to Tyler, who was prepping our food in the kitchen but popped out to say hi. We will definitely be back at dinner time with friends to enjoy the food and wine. And I could easily bring my kids here because they also had a small menu of things they would enjoy. This is an absolute MUST TRY restaurant. Absolutely INCREDIBLE dinner! You have to get the beef tartare - WOW I have never had tartare like that! I could have eaten 3 orders of it by myself. We got the prime burger and tartare to start. Burger had a fantastic smoky flavor. Entrees were the mushroom strudel with goat cheese and the prix fixe menu's filet mignon. Everything was amazing. I can't get over the tartare, though. I wish I was local so I could eat it whenever I want! Waitstaff was superb - attentive, friendly, intuitive. We got to meet the chef himself! We had called to see if they could accommodate our group of 12 plus a puppy and they knocked it out of the park. They set us up on their back patio, had patio heaters and just really made the evening wonderful. I say "mostly prix fixe" because when I was there, there were a few other options, such as mussels, duck à l'orange, and salmon meunière. However, most people will likely go for the steak prix fixe, which gives you two servings of steak with salad, fries, and your choice of dessert. I had the chocolate torte, and the other desserts were a strawberry lemon torte, macarons, and crème brûlée. The bartender was excellent with high-quality cocktails starting at $8-also a happy hour until 7. The wine list is more expensive, with most glasses at $14 and up. Exceptional service from the entire staff--we felt welcomed as soon as we came in. There is ample indoor and outdoor seating. read more

We had such an amazing experience at The American Bar! The service was above and beyond. Charlie in the bar was so welcoming and makes great cocktails. We were also lucky enough to talk to Sommelier and manager Dimitry who gave excellent wine suggestions. The food was fantastic! I never finish my salads, but in this case I did. Both of our steaks were cooked perfectly, and the garlic aioli with the fries is devilishly divine! And of course the desserts were the perfect bow on an amazing experience. We were seated quickly without a reservation. Waitstaff was very attentive and even let me try some wine samples since they did not have my wine of choice. It worked, I chose one and enjoyed 2 glasses! . The bartender personally attended to my partners drink desires! We shared the truffle fries as an appetizer, they were yummy! The fries were followed by a salad (mine without nuts) and then one of the best steaks I have had in a while. I had the filet and my partner had the ribeye. Both done to perfection and we enjoyed the sauces, but found neither steak needed sauce! Dessert was also perfection. A chocolate mousse and an apple dish with homemade ice cream. Clean facility. If you're going to design a place meant to replicate an American-style bistro in Paris and offer a prix fixe menu of salad, steak, and pomme frites you better slam dunk it...and this place does. Webster, our waiter, was attentive without being overbearing, and his eloquence and demeanor complimented the meal excellently. They had the quirk on the prix fixe menu of splitting up the steak frites entree into two courses, so you could try multiple sauces and both types of fries (sweet potato and traditional - the sweet potato fries were remarkable but I found the traditional a touch too salty). Not much to say beyond what the other review said. Menu is very limited but what they do have is really good. Portions were very generous. I'd recommend smaller portions on the fries and just bring more if asked. Sweet potato fries were the better of the two options but both were good and perfectly cooked. It's basically a set menu with salad, bread, and one portion of steak and fries with sauce of your choice. Then they bring you a second portion of steak and fries and you can choose another sauce. Hands down the best Steak Frites I have ever had in my life. The staff was exceptional in both service and wine recommendations. I had the pleasure of sampling my dining guests entrees as well. We went to the American Bar for lunch but we got there late, maybe 1:15 or 1:30. We had a relaxing meal, appetizers, entree, drinks and dessert. The food was excellent. Little did we know that the restaurant closed at 2:00. We were still there at 3:15 when they graciously told us they'd been closed for over an hour. We were impressed that they had continued to serve us for so long and never rushed us even though they were closed. Giving 2 start instead of 1 because of the music and atmosphere. Winchester needs a place like this BUT had a really bad dinner last night there with friends. Multiple mistakes on the food, world's smallest Old Fashioned (maybe 1 oz...), meat that had absolutely NO flavor, desert was completely misrepresented by server (just wrong on question I asked), and water glass left empty for 45 minutes, had to warm the ice to melt for water (at that point was being obnoxious because so much was going wrong). Will not be back unless major changes made. Disappointing because music was great and atmosphere was nice. read more

We both got the special which came with a walnut salad, two servings of steak and fries, and dessert. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauces that accompanied it were fantastic. My favorite was the house special sauce. For dessert there were a few options to choose from. The crème brûlée was wonderful, as was the chocolate torte. My wife and I stopped by for dinner last weekend and were amazed. We both got the prix fixe meal, which is basically the one way to go. What you get is a choice of 3 sauces for your steak and then either French fries or sweet potato fries. The steak melts in your mouth, and the fries are a dream. But wait, there is more. After you've finished your plate, you get a round 2 of steak and fries. You can switch it up with a different sauce, or try the fry you didn't get. Or stay the same. It's a free country. Between the two of us we were able to try both fries and all 3 sauces and all of it was simply amazing. We split a bottle of wonderful French wine as well. Our server was completely on point with us and the owner (we think) checked in as well. My only concern with this restaurant is I'm not sure if the Winchester crowd will "get it" since the menu is so limited, but what you get is simply perfection. We will definitely be bringing our friends by as a way to show off the fine cuisine that Winchester has to offer. read more

We had heard good reviews so we gave it a try. We were excited to find a new restaurant in Winchester. Although the atmosphere and the band were nice, the service and the food left a lot to be desired. The tablecloth at our table was stained with food and when we told the waitress, we weren't offered a new seat or a change of tablecloth. We were there over 2 hours, and our water was only refilled once. 2 in our party ordered the French onion soup, which was requested to come out before dinner. It came out with the dinner so was sent back. 3 in our party ordered the steak medium rare, and all 3 came out well done. When asked for it to be redone, it came out 2o minutes later medium. At that point, everyone was too hungry to have it sent back. I ordered the portobello mushroom in place of the steak (the same price). My plate came with 6 small slices of mushroom. As far as desserts, they were obviously prepackaged. The band was wonderful. However, when it was introduced, one of the rules customers were told by an employee of the restaurant was 'no talking while the band is playing'. When we asked for the check, we told our waitress about our concerns and we're surprised a manager didn't come talk to us. We even told her we wouldn't be back and she just said 'ok'. read more
