I really enjoy sitting at a table at this cute bakery, listening to cool music. I really want this place to have better food. I really do. I keep trying the pastries and desserts. Really average and flavorless. I can't comment on their coffee since I don't drink coffee, but there is a steady stream of people coming in to buy it, so it must be good. I think this place is a success because of its location and overall hipster-ness, and maybe the coffee. I'll keep trying the food and see if it tastes better. One note...you have to walk through the kitchen to use the bathroom, which is actually in the kitchen. I thought that wasn't such a good idea. read more

Wow, this place was amazing. They did a cake for my best friend's baby shower and it was incredible. No plastic tasting fondant, the icing was great and the cake was dense. I really appreciate their Gluten Free selections. Used to be available only on Thursdays, but now they have GF items every day! The Banana Bread is always GF --it's super-moist and tasty, and available every day. They are becoming a little famous for their yummy scones -- usually have 3 or 4 different flavors of scones every day and one is GF. On Thursdays they usually have a GF cupcake and a GF cookie to choose from. Their cutout sugar cookies and cakes are decorated so beautifully. Yummy pies for the holidays too. I love the vibe here, and fact that they have soymilk and gluten-free options! The only thing I don't love is the super-awkward counter set-up. They use iPads so there's maybe a square foot of space on the back corner of the counter where they have all the baked goods display for them to check you out . . . you end up being half in the kitchen and it's just very cramped and weird. Why not just put the check-out at the other side of the counter so people don't feel like they're in the way when they're paying?? read more

Loved the scones except the chocolate gluten free one (it seemed dry) but I normally don't eat gluten free so I can't really judge. I love the coffee too. Love coming here for a quite place to sit and journal in the middle of the day. The selection of baked goods are excellent. The banana bread (which happens to be gluten free) is exceptional and a stand out on the menu. Their scones are also very good as well. Just FANTASTIC. Cute, quaint, and friendly shop with out-of-this-world baked goods and coffee. There are probably only 10 seats inside of the shop, with another 4 outside, but it never really felt crowded. We ordered come carrot cake cupcakes, banana bread, iced coffee, and cookies (to go). Everything was delicious and tasted so fresh. I was most surprised when I found out that some of the items I bought were gluten free because they were THAT good. I would 100% recommend this spot if you are in the area. Parking is a little tight out front, but there is a lot of street parking in the area. Just a tip: if you want to order a cake from them, they said they they would prefer a 2+ week runway (either by email or phone). read more

The Able Baker is one of the best places to get coffee in the area. You can tell from the taste that they are using very high quality coffee beans. The Able Baker has been my go-to for years for these reasons. The bakers use high quality ingredients (I've noticed, as I've used their rest room more than once) and offer a wide range of choices for cakes, cookies, scones, pies and quick breads. Just when you think they can't out-do a holiday sugar cookie or cake design, those ladies rise to the occasion. Oh, and did I mention the La Colombe coffee? Brewed to perfection! Julie and staff have done it again. This is the second time I have been wowed with their gorgeous, amazingly tasty, reasonably priced special occasion cakes. The cake they made for my parents 50 anniversary was simply amazing. Simple, elegant and dense cake with not too sweet icing. Yummy. While I waited for my cake to be boxed, I had a cup of iced coffee and a GF banana bread which was the best I ever had, GF or not. So so good and the coffee was not 'old coffee iced'. It tasted freshly brewed. I only wish they were in Montclair so I did not have to travel so far or I would be there every day for treats and coffee. read more

Not only are all the baked goods beautiful and delicious, there is often at least one gluten-free choice that is equally fantastic. With all that in place, this place is a top-notch bakery.
