Really cute atmosphere Mom and pop shop feel. A large variety of snacks and desserts. However I felt as their cupcakes all tasted similar and their frosting was buttery. Nothing was wrong with this place but at the same time it wasn't anything to rave about. They do have brewed iced teas that I've gotten on hot summer days that were super refreshing. They also have outdoor seating that's perfect for a cup of coffee and snack on a nice day. read more

Love love love their cookies and the cakes! The fondant artistry is amazing - they can make anything happen!

The food here is delicious. I love that they have gluten free options every day. The strawberry scone and gluten free cookies were delicious!! I wish the place arranged the seating a little better. The tables are quite large and can fit very few people. All in all - I'm so glad that I found this spot! read more

Wow, this place was amazing. They did a cake for my best friend's baby shower and it was incredible. No plastic tasting fondant, the icing was great and the cake was dense. The cookies they made were soft and the icing was delicious. Honestly, this may have been the best cake/cookie I've ever had. read more

I really appreciate their Gluten Free selections. Used to be available only on Thursdays, but now they have GF items every day! The Banana Bread is always GF --it's super-moist and tasty, and available every day. They are becoming a little famous for their yummy scones -- usually have 3 or 4 different flavors of scones every day and one is GF. On Thursdays they usually have a GF cupcake and a GF cookie to choose from. Their cutout sugar cookies and cakes are decorated so beautifully. Yummy pies for the holidays too. I just love it here! read more

I love the vibe here, and fact that they have soymilk and gluten-free options! The only thing I don't love is the super-awkward counter set-up. They use iPads so there's maybe a square foot of space on the back corner of the counter where they have all the baked goods display for them to check you out . . . you end up being half in the kitchen and it's just very cramped and weird. Why not just put the check-out at the other side of the counter so people don't feel like they're in the way when they're paying?? read more

Oh my GOOD-ness! This place is filled with some of the best baked goods around. Looking for cookies that can be served at an informal supper OR a fancy dinner party? Head to TAB. The lemon cake is out of this world - and the chocolate products don't let you down. Grab a scone, a cup of her coffee and bring a good book. it's the start of a perfect morning. sell-outs can happen when "mad coffee glaze" is applied to anything. read more

Great bakery/coffee shop. We were there mid afternoon and there was a steady steam of customers; some taking baked goods and/or coffee to go or others eating at tables there. Excellent coffee also had almond scone and some cookies and they were exceptional not overly sweet. Will definitely try the fresh baked pies the next time as they looked delicious. Great friendly service read more

Sweet little cupcake (and more) spot with a generous menu and many variations. The surroundings are very quaint and the service is excellent. The cupcake itself (chocolate with espresso frosting) was just ok. For a stronger option (more flavourful cake, more interesting frosting) try cupcakes by carousel in Montclair or baked bouquet, Verona. In this region though, haven't found anything better. Perhaps the rest of the menu is more impressive. read more

I'm gluten free. Their gf desserts are delicious. Today I ordered a chocolate GF cupcake with Espresso Icing - yum! Only thing is, as most GF baked goods crumble, as i tried to eat it, the inner parts of the cupcake disintegrated and required a spoon to finish. Taste=5, consistency = 3.5. And, $3.00 for a gf cupcake isn't bad. Thanks for not trying to rip me off. Everyone is also very friendly and it's a warm, happening place. As for the consistency, keep on improving! read more

Ordered a coffee pecan torte the first week of april and it was great; I thought that maybe they won't have it ready because I made the order online and didn't pay at the time but when I got there the cake was ready for me, and it was delicious! Great for diabetics not that I'm one but it was not sweet at all and really healthy. Overall, cake was really good:) you have a happy customer:) read more

UnABLE to get our order right, second time. No receipt, no order form attached...when called, not helpful at all. Very disappointing.

This bakery smells SO good that I could sit in there for hours. Their cupcakes were delicious. I'm sure their other bakery items are great as well. read more

Service was excellent. The lady behind the glass put up with my questions. Since there was no one behind me in line, I became that customer. Had a good crumb cake which was actually at a decent non-yuppie price. I will come again. read more

I really enjoy sitting at a table at this cute bakery, listening to cool music. I really want this place to have better food. I really do. I keep trying the pastries and desserts. Really average and flavorless. I can't comment on their coffee since I don't drink coffee, but there is a steady stream of people coming in to buy it, so it must be good. I think this place is a success because of its location and overall hipster-ness, and maybe the coffee. I'll keep trying the food and see if it tastes better. One note...you have to walk through the kitchen to use the bathroom, which is actually in the kitchen. I thought that wasn't such a good idea. read more

Excellent. They know what they are doing. Great coffee. Best in the area. Yummy cupcakes. Yummy baking. It's great!

AMAZING BAKERY! Best in town. Chocolate chip scones and flourless chocolate cake are divine. Excellent coffee, too. Cannot go wrong here.

Good place to come a try some sweets out. They have one of the best cupcakes around as well as some great tasting chocolate chip scones. Staff was great couldn't be any better they was nice, polite, and kept a smile on their face. read more

Loved the scones except the chocolate gluten free one (it seemed dry) but I normally don't eat gluten free so I can't really judge. I love the coffee too. Just tried the banana bread which was yummy...nice and moist. I normally prefer a dense bread. It was more like banana cake but very good! read more

I recently purchased customized cookies for a baby shower. The service I received was outstanding!!! The attention to detail and colors were just as I requested. I would highly recommend this establishment to others. read more

Great coffee, great cupcakes! The store itself can get a little cramped...but that's because of all the business they receive!

The Able Baker is one of the best bakeries I've ever been to! The daily selection of scones are delicious as is the everything else on the menu, including the coffee. This place is an amazing addition to Maplewood village. read more

Love this place! The buttercream is just a little bit too sweet for my taste but the cakes and cupcakes are fresh and dense. The cookies are great! The banana bread is the best I've ever had, which is really saying something because I don't usually like banana bread unless it involves chocolate/peanut butter/preferably both. read more

Just FANTASTIC. Cute, quaint, and friendly shop with out-of-this-world baked goods and coffee. There are probably only 10 seats inside of the shop, with another 4 outside, but it never really felt crowded. We ordered come carrot cake cupcakes, banana bread, iced coffee, and cookies (to go). Everything was delicious and tasted so fresh. I was most surprised when I found out that some of the items I bought were gluten free because they were THAT good. I would 100% recommend this spot if you are in the area. Parking is a little tight out front, but there is a lot of street parking in the area. Just a tip: if you want to order a cake from them, they said they they would prefer a 2+ week runway (either by email or phone). read more

Excellent coffee, delicious pastries and friendly service! Tried banana bread and it was amazing! They are the gem of Maplewood for sure:) read more

The Able Baker - Bakeries Near Me - Maplewood, New Jersey

Love coming here for a quite place to sit and journal in the middle of the day. The selection of baked goods are excellent. The banana bread (which happens to be gluten free) is exceptional and a stand out on the menu. Their scones are also very good as well. Be mindful it can get fairly busy at peak times but that is only a testament to how great it is. The staff are also very friendly and the place is always clean. read more

The Able Baker is one of the best places to get coffee in the area. You can tell from the taste that they are using very high quality coffee beans. As an added bonus, they have possibly the best gluten free banana bread I have ever had. The place is small so getting a table may be difficult but there are plenty of benches nearby. read more

The best coffee for miles, and those scones give me life. The cakes are so gorgeous you'll hate to cut them, but amazingly, they taste even better than they look. They've recently expanded, and the new space is lovely. read more

Most amazing Nutella banana and walnut scone and iced mocha ever!! Will definitely be coming back again! So moist and sweet! Will definitely recommend! read more

I love this bakery. They have single-handedly extended the downtown area of Maplewood. The banana bread, chocolate chip scone, well, all of the scones, lemon meringue pie, and brownies are some highlights. Biggest plus? The staff! They are simply lovely people and they are a big draw as far as I am concerned. The owners are the best...very involved in the town...generous to a fault. I could go on...but they won my business with quality and yummines of their products, and they've kept my business with their kindness. See you tomorrow!! read more

Everyone makes a big deal of this place- I guess its decent- I'm underwhelmed I guess? spoiled maybe. but what bakery does not make muffins? come on now! I do love scones, which they make, but sometimes you just want a fresh baked morning glory muffin:)) they have nice cookies. read more

If you aren't giving this place a 5-star review then you must be CRAZY!! We love this place and recently heard about it through a friend, she brought me a gluten-free pumpkin scone one morning and it was delicious!! We started going almost every weekend since. The GF selection is pretty large for such a great bakery and it's all fresh, never frozen! Get there early for the scones! read more

Awesome.....Awesome.....Awesome bakery in Northern NJ - cookies, scones, coffee, bread - all excellent. This place is legit good and worth going out of the way for. read more

I have been going to this bakery for as long as I can remember. The chocolate chip cookies, brownies, coffee cake, and pies are heavenly. This place has the best coffee in town, and I would skip Starbucks for this any day. read more

I love this bakery! The cupcakes are amazing and so is the coffee. The inside is very charming. Staff are always friendly and polite. Cant go wrong here! read more

This bakery has always been great for the scones and cupcakes I've purchased. Yesterday I purchased a banana bread based on another customer's recommendation so you can imagine my sadness when my husband told me the top was burned. I wanted to let you know as this is not what I'm used to from this too notch bakery. I guess it was an off day. read more

Julie and staff have done it again. This is the second time I have been wowed with their gorgeous, amazingly tasty, reasonably priced special occasion cakes. The cake they made for my parents 50 anniversary was simply amazing. Simple, elegant and dense cake with not too sweet icing. Yummy. While I waited for my cake to be boxed, I had a cup of iced coffee and a GF banana bread which was the best I ever had, GF or not. So so good and the coffee was not 'old coffee iced'. It tasted freshly brewed. I only wish they were in Montclair so I did not have to travel so far or I would be there every day for treats and coffee. read more

The Able Baker had been selling baked goods around town for a few years, so opening a store front was a good call. Not only are all the baked goods beautiful and delicious, there is often at least one gluten-free choice that is equally fantastic. With all that in place, this place is a top-notch bakery. But wait, there's more!! The coffee is amazing. Brewed is great, but the espresso drinks go above and beyond. My only desire would be more room and a more orderly line up for service, but really that only speaks to its popularity. Expansion soon? read more

I absolutely LOVE this place: Wonderful coffee, scones, cakes, cookies. The vibe is warm and inviting and the customer service is stellar. I come here at least once a week with my kids, who look forward to it. I only wish they'd bring back the pecan coffee cake! We miss it. read more

Very fresh and of fantastic quality. The manager is always very nice and friendly when I come in the store. Although the regular baked goods are great, the quality of custom orders (i.e. Birthday cakes) is what really stands out. I have ordered 3 birthday and 2 holiday cakes since I discovered this bakery and am more than happy to report that my family, friends, and coworkers loved them, and that they were ready on time with no mistakes. I look forward ro returning to the Able Baker soon. read more
