6 On James has been around for a couple years now, and it's a much better improvement than the old Mad Anthony's that used to be in the same spot. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, and the live music on Monday nights is honestly really good--fun, talented performers and a vibe that makes the night feel special. The food is solid across the board. Every dish I've had has been good, and it's clear they care about the quality. It's the kind of place that could easily become a regular hangout--if you're the right demographic. I'm 41 and grew up in the area, and every time I come to visit my parents, they want to bring me here. But every time, I feel out of place. The crowd definitely skews older. It's not unfriendly, but it definitely feels like you're crashing someone else's retirement party. The service is hit-or-miss. The reason I'm writing this review, after my fifth or sixth visit, is because my most recent waitress was incredibly rude. Eye-rolling, curt responses, and an overall attitude that made asking even basic questions feel like an inconvenience. I didn't feel welcomed at all. On the other hand, the bartenders were great and always have been. Warm, engaging, and clearly more used to making people feel at home. Unfortunately, this kind of cold shoulder is pretty common in the Lake James four corners area. Even though I grew up there, I still get the sense that if you're not currently a local, you're just seen as "other." That feeling definitely carried over into my experience at 6 On James. All in all, 6 On James is a major upgrade from what was there before. The food is good, the music is great, and it's got potential. But if you're under 60 or from out of town, just know it might not feel like your kind of place. read more

Linda L might be the worse cocktail host/ server. Poor attitude and very argumentative. We were so excited to sit outside and enjoy but, you quickly put a damper on that. We were going to do food but, her attitude ended it at drinks. Drinks were good and a great bourbon list. read more

Brunch Buffet was good! All the traditional breakfast items w/ ribs, brats, and wings! Beer was from the draft! Good buffet for $16 a person. Will continue to go back and hope for fantastic, but brunch was better than I expected. read more

Ambience is nice. Server was great. Food was good, however the serving of fries and onion rings were the smallest I've ever had at a restaurant. Hope the management takes note and bring a portion that reflects the price. read more

Our server was VERY nice. We all 4 ordered something different, but the menu is VERY limited. Had I looked at it before going, we probably would have chosen a different place. One meal (fish) very undercooked. Hubby had fettuccine alfredo with chicken (paid extra for the chicken, but not much chicken in it), I had the peanut noodle dish (it was good). The REAL problem was the live music-soooooo LOUD. Asked to be seated on the opposite side of the bar from the girl singing. She was good, but we ended up screaming at our guests all night. She played the whole hour we were there, so it was miserable. We even asked our server if they could lower the volume a little-no luck. Won't be back. read more

We popped in on a whim and sat inside. I would recommend calling ahead for a reservation if you have a large party, kids in tow, or during busy season. The service was fast and friendly. The food was good but we had to wait over an hour for 6 meals with only 1 meal was right. One meal was requested to not have olives on the salad and came with olives, one meal came out cold and sent back rewarded, one meal came out with the wrong side and was entered right by the waitress, on burger meal came out without toppings, and the last meal was missed completely and took another 25 mins to arrive. Bar was slowest ever. We waited 25 mins for a bottle of beer. Mixed drinks were light pours and heavy on the ice. Our waitress was so sweet and we took care of her really well as everything was out of her control. Sad to see a promising place on a high end lake not meeting simple expectations. Server Kaylyn A was very good. She had a great personality and was very attentive. Food was fairly warm temperature wise, but my blackened tacos had zero flavor. Did not have any of their bourbon, but they had a ton to choose from. BEWARE, if you go with a group if 6 or more, an automatic gratuity is put onto each bill. So if you are tipping extra as it shows on the bill, you WILL TIP DOUBLE, if you do not pay attention. (Live and learn. Luckily we liked the waitress this time.) Just the worst service, incredibly unorganized. If you go on a weekend, you are looking at 40+ min for your drinks, 45+ min for your food at best. Our server came to your table a total of 4 times our entire dinner - we had to plead just to place our food order after tracking her down after 45 min. Other tables complained their dinner took over an hour while still waiting for a beer that was ordered over 30 min ago. You look around the dining room and see tables all waiting for drinks, empty glasses - just a wreck. Not worth sitting at an empty table for over two hours just waiting. And waiting. - the dining room was not super busy. We saw at last 40% of the tables still open - i can understand being backed up if over capacity - this is simply a case of an operations nightmare. read more

These bitches ghetto. They tried to fight my mom because her husband said his steak was undercooked and did not want it sent back but simply a refund.
