All tables are on their home's patio. The food is not adventurous but it's classically prepared and presented. Not cheap but not exorbitant and the minimal wine list is carefully chosen and remarkably affordable. Our menu was a bright summer salad, buttery soft chateaubriand, and cheesecake. The modestly sized plates were licked clean but, personally, I would have liked slightly larger salad or app. If they have their housemade Limoncello, order it! The owners are magnificent hosts. We were made to feel right at home in the restored historic (1700's era) farmhouse, with its common rooms for reading, visiting, dining, and relaxing downstairs, as well as its five beautifully decorated guest bedrooms upstairs. Shari is an outstanding cook, serving hearty, nutritious, artfully presented breakfasts every morning. She incorporates fresh eggs from her flock of lively hens whose happy clucking can be heard throughout the day. We look forward to our next trip when we can once again savor the scrumptious frittatas, homemade blueberry muffins, blueberry pancakes, and delicious fruit cups at the dining room's table that looks over the sloping backyard fields and the ocean beyond. He told the bartender and she poured our wine and printed out tab and sat it out front of us without saying a word. I paid the top and left her a tip. It was beautiful weather so we decided to go sit on the covered front patio in the Adirondack chairs. About five minutes later, the bartender came outside and reprimanded us out front of several other patrons for taking our drinks out of the bar. We were very embarrassed, however, complied, and got up and went inside to the bar to finish our wine. Not sure why she's single to us out. I will not be returning to this establishment.

The current owners fell in love, were married at this very location..... felt strongly enough to share this uniqie treasure with the world, that they purchased Boothbay Playhouse to create perfect memories for all those who see its charm and beauty. You're well advised to call and order ahead for popular times (weekend dinner time in the summer), but otherwise you can just drop by and order to takeout or eat in their small but comfortable bar area, where they sometimes have live music during the summertime. My family likes the pulled pork and beef tacos, I like the shrimp, salmon and Baja fish tacos, always with fresh pico de gallo and other toppings. My vegetarian wife has enjoyed the squash tacos. Recently I discovered the absolutely delicious haddock torta--they also have a brisket torta.
