A lot of caterers…read morewanted to know our budget first, but we knew what we wanted and had no idea what it would cost. Laura allowed us to tell her about our dream spread for our wedding and then she priced it out based on the things we really wanted. She was wonderful about making suggestions and adjustments and could even accommodate my vegan cousin who is also gluten free and deathly allergic to nuts and soy (yes, I know). We loved how mobile Laura was and that she was able to work at our site, but keep in mind that if you want her to work in more unusual locations that she will have to rent equipment to do her fine work with her staff. The process was incredibly creative and satisfying. She hosted a beautiful tasting in our own home for five (although I think only four are included). Laura's food was absolutely divine. We had our rehearsal dinner catered by her (as a drop-off): Pulled pork, cold bbq chicken, amaaaazing potato salad, corn pudding, cookie platter (you know-- exactly the kinds of foods you want to eat the night before you squeeze into your finery). Our wedding buffet included 5 delightful passed hors d'oeuvres, an epic charcuterie and cheese spread, a family style salad and bread course, and then a buffet of grilled bistro steaks and salmon, roasted vegetables and fresh summer salads. We were in heaven! Laura outsources wedding cakes, but she did make some amazing peach and apple hand pies as an alternative to wedding cake! Her bartender made a haymakers punch (switchel-- awesomely refreshing) and raspberry leaf iced tea and they were happy to serve the alcohol that we had purchased. We were incredibly happy with the wonderful service on the day of the wedding. The team she assembled to serve on the wedding day was incredibly friendly and professional. Five stars all around! *A quick suggestion to guests working with your caterer on a larger event is to dump e-mail contents/conversation tidbits into a Google Doc that you can share with Laura. There was a lot of back and forth on the phone and e-mail that got confusing at times. Do yourself a favor and keep it all in one sacred location! *Laura only took checks for our payments which was fine for us, but we would have appreciated being able to PayPal our payments as floating thousands of dollars in checks to the many vendors (none of whom took credit cards or PayPal) was rather nerve racking at times.

Great Circle did not disappoint and treated us to simply amazing food and hospitality. The staff was extremely professional and almost invisible(in a good way) during the reception on September 1st at the Portsmouth Elks Club. The sirloin carving station was a real hit, particularly with their fig and wilted arugula accomplishments, and Chef Ned's bright and engaging personality made this event really stand out with a friendly greeting and engaging conversation for all, both young and old. The whole team was exceedingly friendly and engaged, not cool and aloof like some service staff can be. I'd particularly like to give a shout-out to Jen who not only guided us through all of the planning steps leading up to the big day, but also was kind enough to go to the store after her set up was done and pick up more ice for us for our self-furnished beverage station. Many caterers would have treated this as a "not my problem"situation since we weren't paying them to provide beverages, but she went above and beyond to help ensure our event was a success. We live in NH but decided to do a Maine wedding as both of our families are in Maine. I setup a food tasting session with Steven Dumas Catering back in August of 2018 for Sept.9th. We made the 2 and 1/2hr drive up to Whitefield on Sept. 8th just to be told via Facebook message by Steven Dumas Catering that they had to cancel our food tasting session and we'd have to reschedule. Approximately 2 weeks go by where I have sent at least 3 messages to the catering company via Facebook and have heard no response. One nice thing about Facebook messenger is that you can see when someone has read your message. Steven Dumas catering had read all of my messages yet responded to none. I had also reached out via phone calls and left a number of messages with no return call. My fiancé had also called, left messages and never heard back. Finally, Thursday Sept. 27th, I called the Aunt Gin's restaurant which is also owned and operated by Steven Dumas. I and asked to speak with someone about the catering and was told my information would be taken down and I'd receive a call back. At this point, I was frustrated and fed up. I explained my situation from start to finish and how disappointing my experience with them had been thus far. Shortly after this conversation, I quickly got a phone call from the owner, Steven Dumas, who left me a voice mail saying I had been "pretty rough" on his staff member. After explaining to him how my experience had been with his business thus far. Mr. Dumas assured me that he would personally see to it that my fiancé and I got our food tasting session Sunday Sept. 23rd. It is currently Saturday Sept. 22nd. We have again driven 2 and 1/2hrs to Maine so we can be in town for our food tasting session tomorrow. I have called Steven Dumas several times between yesterday and today to confirm the time of our tasting session with no call back, no text or Facebook message reply. Approximately 30min ago I received a Facebook message from the catering company. The message stated that they think I'd be better off going with another catering company for my big day as they are having trouble getting enough labor to fill their positions and they don't see that changing any time soon. We have now wasted our time and money not once, but twice. Being too under staffed to cater a 50 person wedding is something that could have and should have been communicated the first time we reached out to this company. This entire situation could have easily been avoided had anyone had the decency to be up front with us about the gravity of their staffing situation. Instead we were strung along, given the run around and had false promises made to us. I am writing this review not to bash the company, but to raise awareness in hopes that this doesn't happen to anyone else. Planning any event especially a wedding, is hard and stressful enough. Setting up a catering service should not be. I hope this helps someone in the future.

You're well advised to call and order ahead for popular times (weekend dinner time in the summer), but otherwise you can just drop by and order to takeout or eat in their small but comfortable bar area, where they sometimes have live music during the summertime. My family likes the pulled pork and beef tacos, I like the shrimp, salmon and Baja fish tacos, always with fresh pico de gallo and other toppings. My vegetarian wife has enjoyed the squash tacos. Recently I discovered the absolutely delicious haddock torta--they also have a brisket torta. Because of COVID we had to cancel our wedding and are not planning on rescheduling. Larry worked with us on this as well and was going to hold our date for up to 2 months since everything was up in the air, and gave our deposit back when we finally opted to cancel. These have been very tough times for all of us and I think it shows a great deal of insight into the owner's character and moral values. Weddings are expensive, so if you want to know your money is going to a good place, this is it.
