Let's start with the positive. They had the items I needed in stock. The prices were reasonable for…read morethese items (at least compared to others in the area). However, the customer service at this store and their store policies are horrific. Chris forgot to load one of my pallets when they shipped and refused to bring it on his truck. I had to borrow a pick up from a neighbor and hand move all the heavy pavers by hand. And I paid for shipping. But he simply wouldn't budge and told me to "do him a favor". Favor? I PAID for shipping! Chris also told me that although they charged a deposit for their pallets they'd come pick them up after install. However after install when I called for them to come pick them up he said they changed their policy and no longer pick up pallets. How very convenient for them. When I asked if there was anything he could do he said "i'm just an employee". Huh? But you're the employee who made the promise! So I had to pay $150 to toss the pallets plus I'm out $300+ on the pallet deposits. Suddenly their prices weren't so reasonable. This store has no concept of customer service and does nothing to help when things go wrong. As long as you're ok with that, shopping here shouldn't be an issue.

She also looked it up on the Emporium True Value Hardware website (the other hardware store in town, minutes away on Main Street) and said it was $9.99 there. So I agreed to pay $12 + tax again . If I didn't say anything, they would've charged $22 plus tax. I think they just make up prices when you get to the counter (no price on item). The New York State Attorney General should look into their price gouging.

It was super busy the few times we were there but staff was super helpful and they took my ornaments behind the register, packed them up and whisked me to register to quickly check me out when I was finished. I've been back a few times since and salespeople are always extremely helpful and nice, giving great advice on how to style something or suggesting items that I may have overlooked. Grounds are exceptionally beautiful and it's a great stop to make if you need a last minute gift. So when I have a chance I've been driving out east to tour what's in the book. This is the oldest operating family run hardware store on LI. My dad and I met Charlie who was one of the employees featured in the book and he let us take a picture with him for instagram. I bought a Stanley. I was trying so hard not to get one but I finally caved. They had 30 oz ones for $40. I don't know if that was a good price or not but I got a nice green one. I wanted to support the store and wasn't sure what else to get I looked around to see if I could get a Christmas gift for someone on my list but didn't really find anything.
