So when I have a chance I've been driving out east to tour what's in the book. This is the oldest operating family run hardware store on LI. My dad and I met Charlie who was one of the employees featured in the book and he let us take a picture with him for instagram. I bought a Stanley. I was trying so hard not to get one but I finally caved. They had 30 oz ones for $40. I don't know if that was a good price or not but I got a nice green one. I wanted to support the store and wasn't sure what else to get I looked around to see if I could get a Christmas gift for someone on my list but didn't really find anything. This is a nice store to visit worth checking out for the historical factor!

I kindly said no thank you & want to establish that I'm not generalizing all employees that work here. But the one man who was at the register was beyond rude. I came in looking for a replacement toilet flapper & was confident that I had picked the right one. The employee proceeded to tell me numerous times that I probably did not get the correct one & that he should take a look at a picture of it with his "trained eye"... of toilet flappers. After I told him numerous times that I know that I got the right one for me, he goes on to tell me that he's sure he'll see me back in here because again, he's sure I didn't get the right one. I work for a local business that often shops at this hardware store as well as multiple others on the East End because I prefer supporting the local businesses instead of Amazon & other online companies etc. I am so disappointed & for the record, I got the right one and most certainly will not be coming back.

Thank goodness a friend recommended this place to us because they saved our Christmas! We found such a gorgeous curation of ornaments - really unique and fabulous. Prices weren't exactly a bargain but they really deserve to make money based on how beautiful they make the store and how they pull together a great selection of items you don't see anywhere else. It was super busy the few times we were there but staff was super helpful and they took my ornaments behind the register, packed them up and whisked me to register to quickly check me out when I was finished. I've been back a few times since and salespeople are always extremely helpful and nice, giving great advice on how to style something or suggesting items that I may have overlooked. Grounds are exceptionally beautiful and it's a great stop to make if you need a last minute gift. They have greeting cards and their signature bag, tissue paper and ribbon make for a perfect presentation for any occasion!

I bought screws and tools on a regular basis. I went to exchange an empty propane tank and they charged me $39 plus tax. I thought it was excessive. Today I went to True Value in Hampton Bays and they charged me $24 with tax!!! Amazing. So now I suspect everything that I have bought there has been top retail price. Maybe you need to shop around for better prices. Service is excellent but that is not the issue.

Today I went to buy a screw armed with the diameter of the screw opening and I was told (meanly) by the woman who "helped" me that the width of the screw doesn't matter only the "thread". Pointing out politely that this makes no sense only got me more attitude from the person helping me.
