Bought 15 skip laurels here. 12 out of the 15 are completely dead less than a year later. Terrible quality plants. They were planted in large holes with loose, rich soil at the bottom, adequately watered and got partial sun (they are supposed to do well in full shade or full sun). Didn't matter. 90% of them are completely dead now. That's nearly $2,000 in dead plants. read more

I used Bay Gardens to completely overhaul my yard which had been over grown with weeds and bushes. It wasn't a cheap job but it was done quickly and, most important, correctly. I could say more but I think the before and after pictures speak for themselves. I've been a customer since the current owner bought the garden center. Until recently, my experience has been satisfactory. Last November I purchased two small hemlock. they were immediately planted and well tended through the winter. (I have been gardening successfully for over 40 years) In March, it became obvious that one of the two plants had died. My experience with virtually all other garden centers and nurseries has been that plants are guaranteed through one growing season. Bay Gardens doesn't provide that standard customer courtesy. If the plant dies on your way home, that's your problem. Contacting the owner got me a snarky reply suggesting that they would be happy to guide me through the planting process. This garden center has grown exponentially in the past few years. Regrettably their customer service has not. I can shop at many garden centers. Bay Gardens won't be one of them. read more

Our neighbor recommended Bay Gardens to buy some shrubs/trees so we dropped in to check out the place. What a selection of beautiful plants, well-organized, and lovely little gift shop! We were greeted by Maria upon arriving and she showed us around a little and gave us some helpful ideas. She was very knowledgeable. We left that day with a few small shrubs. We returned a few days later to place a larger order which required delivery. Again Maria was a great help to us. We were told it would be likely a week before our large shrubs would be delivered, but I was delighted to get a text upon arriving home saying that they would deliver the very next day! They were great about text communication regarding the delivery, and everything arrived safely. One thing that we were pleasantly surprised about was that they had more plants in stock than it said on their website. It said that they were sold out of many items, however many of those plants (in the heights that we hoped for) were actually there. Definitely worth it to make a trip there to see exactly what is in stock in case things haven't been updated online. They had a 20% off flowering shrubs sale which was a nice bonus. We were very happy with our experiences at Bay Gardens and would definitely return. Everyone was friendly, professional, and (very important during this time) wearing masks. While they have a wonderful selection of tropical plants & succulents... every plant I looked at, had mealy bugs. Be weary. They are hard to get rid of, and once you bring them home they will infest everything near it. I brought it to the attention to the women in the greenhouse and while she did move plants around to try and separate the ones that I pointed out... I found several others. Buyer beware. Bought 10 trees from this company because I heard them on the radio. 5 of the trees were dead in months. Perhaps this is not their fault. What is their fault is that customer service wouldn't return repeated emails inquiring about any possible warranties. After I finally got peeved and sent a final email in which I called them "unscrupulous", I immediately got a sharp reply in which the sender touted the many 5-star reviews and thousands of healthy trees they sold last year. He offered me a discount on a future purchase, but, again, follow up emails asking about the discount were not replied to. Not sure where these many 5-star reviews are, this is yelp and your business has a ripe 3.5 star rating. I'm done with Bay Gardens. There are plenty of nurseries on LI. If you spend your money here, be prepared for poor customer service. read more

Such a beautiful nursery Bay Gardens Is...... not only their inventory was beyond outstanding, from the owner, manager and the entire staff couldn't have been anymore helpful . from the time you walked in this fully filled nursery until you left, they were so helpful. We purchase a few shrubs (great price) plus some other gardening accessories , after our purchase we started to load up our truck and a employee was heading our way on a forklift and stop to help us and refused to take a tip. plus.... they of course were very busy, this was Mother's Day weekend and staff was everywhere and could ask anyone a question and not feel like you were bothering them and they knew what to say...... highly recommend and can't wait to go back. I love the variety of plants, decorative lawn items, fancy pots etc. available. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great gift shop as well. Drove out to Bay Gardens from Southampton on a Thursday because I was leaving town for the weekend and wanted my first set of plants/flowers ordered so they could be planted the following Saturday. Spent almost 2 hours walking around and choosing what I wanted- Rasy (who was terrific) assisted me. She told me someone would call the next day to get my credit card info and schedule delivery. I did receive a call the next day from Samantha but was on the other line. Returned the call within the hour. No reply for 2 days. Called again on Sunday. Since they had not charged my card, no delivery was scheduled. I was told by Mary to call yet again to speak with Samantha. Called the next day (Monday). It's now Tuesday and still no response. I am now working with another nursery much closer to my home. So glad Bay Gardens has enough business to ignore customers who shopped with them, chose the plants they wanted, were prepared to pay ASAP and were planning more purchases in the future due to the large size of the garden (needs to be done in stages). I do not plan to shop at Bay Gardens ever again. read more

I am very disappointed with Bay gardens. My husband and purchased 13 trees from here and 3 of them are totally dead. He has contacted them regarding the matter and they keep telling Him to water them more instead of replacing them. He was told when purchasing them that they were warrantied and now all of a sudden they don't want to keep to their word. The customer service stinks. There are plenty of similar businesses around to that are helpful and respectful. I ordered $750 worth of plants and would have given them much more business/ referrals later on had they at least called me to tell me they were going to be at least 2 hours late for a confirmed installation. Instead I received a snarky response when I asked for a ETA after driving 50 miles one way to meet them only to sit and wait. I run a small business myself and it takes little effort to retain good will even when things go wrong. I don't understand why a business offers a reward program to incentivize customers to come back and then mis-leads them. After spending almost a thousand dollars and getting bonus reward points. I was initially told to come back in October to redeem them. Then I was told no, its November.I returned on Nov 23rd and was told that program was only Nov 1st to Nov 10th. So with that said I would only shop there for the item you want and avoid the reward program. As for me I'll shop elsewhere for now because they did'nt earn my trust or loyalty. read more

Love this place! Super friendly staff, family run and you can really tell they care about their customers. One of the many things I like about this place is that they aren't just out for a sale they are out help you find what you want and tell you how to care for it. I go here for my veggies and every time they will be like wait another week to plant that or yes that's good to plant now. They aren't out to just make sales they really are out to make the customer happy which is place I will always go to. Also they do a lot for the community. The young girl Sam is ALWAYS so rude, an absolute snot and has no personality or customer service skills what so ever. Every time I have gone to this nursery, someone spends an extensive amount of time explaining about the different kinds of plants and what they will do, and is very agreeable and friendly while doing it. The prices are slightly better than local competition and the variety of evergreens seems to be the best around. read more

After spending two years ripping out all of my old nasty shrubs, I finally promised my wife some fresh landscaping. Having searched western Nassau for a reasonable nursery, I finally was referred to Bay Gardens and took a trip out there one hot steam July morning. My wife and I were overwhelmed by the inventory. Having already planned my design in my head, I was thrilled by the variety of boxwoods, ornamental spruces and perennials. Their prices were very competitive, and the quality was superior to anywhere else I'd been. Joel was kind enough to answer all of our questions and personally select the best of the best for us. With a full pickup bed and a not so insane bill, we headed home, excited to finally add some curb appeal to our so outdated home. read more

I went through a similar experience to some of the other reviewers here who purchased Aborvitae trees from Bay Gardens only to have them start dying back within a few days to a week after planting and watering as directed. I also got nothing but blame-the-buyer "insufficient watering" excuses from the owner of this nursery no matter how many times I told him I was watering and babying these defective trees. As an experienced gardener who has planted many trees over my gardening life, I noticed immediately upon planting these Bay Garden Arborvitaes that their roots had been cut back severely, to more than half the diameter of the trees, and their burlap balls were filled with clay soil to make it look like the tree had sufficient rootball intact. These trees were doomed from the get-go! I found the owner John C. to be rude and dishonest, and unwilling to honor a verbal warranty. This company does not stand behind their nursery stock, and in fact provides no warranty. This purchase was an expensive mistake. Never again--there are plenty of alternative nurseries with healthy plants that come with a warranty and a better price. read more

The place is fine for small flower plants even though prices are higher than most nurseries and HD. We went for the arborvitaes because they had a very good deal ($30-40 each). We bought over 50 5-6ft arborvitaes and spent a total of about $4,000 on other trees and plants). They were really pleasant when we made the purchases but by end of summer when more than 30 out of the 50 arborvitaes died, the owner was rude and unhelpful and didn't offer us any solution. He could've sent us new trees at a discount or at least cared but was too busy putting the blame on us. We did everything we were supposed to take care of the trees, we do our research and my family is really good with gardening. Pls don't do heavy purchases from them because they offer cheap deals and definitely not their arborvitaes. It will cost you a lot of time and money down the road and you will have to redo everything. Also, the designs he sends you are misleading, the flowers don't look as good as they do on paper. I spent so much money on overpriced flowers just because it looked good on paper but the flowers are cheap ones but since we already had the delivery I couldn't return it. read more

My family & I went earlier in the spring to buy a small tree. The owner was on hand, as was his family, and spent a lot of time helping us pick out a tree and some plants to surround it. This was by no means a "huge purchase", maybe $350 total. Tree delivery was the next day (they weren't sure they could do it so quickly). I was happy to see the owner come out of the delivery truck and oversee the planting of the tree. He even looked at a tree that I planted a few years earlier and gave advice for keeping it healthy. With so many nurseries in the East/Center Moriches area, this owner created a loyal customer. read more

I try to frequent local businesses so when they first opened I gave them a try. People are very nice but the prices are obscene. I went in looking for cactus potting soil, they didn't have it and said they would order it. I went back FOUR more times and they kept telling me they would order it and never did. I'll stick with Stables down the road, not so pretty but the owners do what they say and if they tell me they will order something they actually do. Prices are also a fraction of Bay Gardens.
