Ok it's a nice Sunday and I thought lets try some local mom and pop places. So I landed on That Mexican Place Restaurant. After reading some reviews and and seeing some good things, I figured why not? Well the ambiance was nice in their restaurant. It's funny some of their patrons have never seen a black person up close before. But hey they didn't start anything so there wasn't anything. Let's continue, the service was amazing I was treated like any other patron there which is always a plus. I ordered the surf and turf burrito and carne asada fries as well as their surf and turf fries and hell why not a carne asada burrito. Ok, on to the food. The chipotle sauce was flavorful but there was just not enough of it on the surf and turf burrito. Also it seemed like a flavor was missing from the food itself. My carne asada fries was missing something from them as well as the fries being undercooked. Would this be a place where I'll return? sure mom and pop places always need second chances. Maybe this was a off day, maybe their best chef wasn't there. It could be anything but I'll give the a shot much later on this year. read more

It was ok. Chips were very salty. Carne asada was eh. But those flour tortillas! The salsa! The grilled jalapeños! This is where they know what they're doing! One of my favorite restaurants in Hemet! The staff is always so friendly and welcoming from the second you walk in through the door. My favorite dishes to order from here are the protein plate, which I get with carne asada, rice and beans, as well as the carne asada fries. The portion sizes are amazing for the price, I usually always have leftovers. I also really love their salsa bar - there's a great variety of mild to spicy salsas and pickled carrots/jalapeños. This is the worst Mexican food place I've ever been to! I got the taco and enchilada plate, to start off with they threw the taco right on top of the enchilada and soak the tortilla of the taco completely through as I picked it up it fell apart and everything fell out of it! So I started to eat my enchilada and it was colder than room temperature it was never heated up at all so I wasn't able to eat that I was afraid I was going to get sick from it! So I spent all the money on the taco plate for some refried beans and a couple bites of rice like I said the worst place I'd ever eaten in my life I will never spend another Penny there for the rest of my life! read more

Love this place! I have tried a few taco shops and always just end up coming back here. It's clean and inviting and the customer service is top-notch. The burritos are huge and they always get our orders correct. The salsa bar is stocked fresh constantly and they aren't stingy with the salsa or anything. We came in the morning and, to our surprise, we weren't the first ones there. I could see why - we were immediately greeted and this friendly service continued throughout our dining experience. We ordered a little bit of everything including a breakfast item. I tried the potato and fish tacos. I didn't expect the potatoes to be mashed up, and this one lacked flavor overall. The fish taco however was great! Especially that sauce/aioli that comes with it. I also tried the bacon wrapped shrimp which was really good and that's a alot coming from someone who doesn't like bacon, crazy I know. Another surprise were the beans - the smoothest we've ever had. They were good and scratched the itch I had for this meal. However, they could've been more flavorful. The carne asada was a little basic and tasted like the generic carne asada you find at other Mexican joints. Hey, at least the cheese was amazing! Fry-wise they were also a bit generic, it's your average shoestring fries. Again, I enjoyed my meal but I just wouldn't have this place at the top of my list for Carne Asada fries. The staff were quite friendly and attentive! I really appreciated them providing us menus without us asking. This isn't a full on restaurant, it's more of a taco shop so it was a nice touch. We went to That Mexican Place on a Friday afternoon. It wasn't busy and we were greeted quickly. The prices are a bit steep but prices everywhere are raising so I understand. I ordered the small carne asada fries and they were delicious! I was surprised how big the serving was. My daughter just bought a house in Hemet and we stopped in for a late lunch the day of the move. It's an "order at the counter, pick your own table" place. I got the shredded beef taco and cheese enchilada plate. It was good. My husband got the buffalo chicken fries that was a special. He wasn't so impressed. The salsa bar was good. First things first, we are on the hunt for the best menudo in Hemet/IE. So we seen the reviews and decided to check it out for ourselves. Ambiance: it's in a small shopping center and doesn't look like much from the outside, but once inside place looks nice and has a welcoming presence. You order at the counter and pay before you eat. The lady at the counter today greeted us as we entered, which is always a welcoming touch. Also, took our order quickly and was able to answer all my questions I had. Friendly and welcoming. Felt like I was valued. Food: now we came with the sole purpose to try the menudo as my son and I love it. So we each ordered a bowl. Upon ordering you are asked if hominy and pata are wanted. We went no pata on ours. The menudo itself was very good. I'd say 8.5 out of 10. One key factor is does it taste fresh. And it delivered. Flavor was really good, didn't even really need to add much to it to enjoy it. That says a lot. As we ate we were checked in on which is nice as well. Overall if you are looking for a great menudo spot, you won't be disappointed. Based on this experience I would definitely come back and try different food items as well. There was plenty of parking, the restaurant was very clean and music was at a minimum so I could still hear myself think of what I wanted to order. Upon walking in there were several seats taken. We ordered the fish tacos, shrimp tacos and surf N turf burrito. All of which came out one after another and initially only took less than 10 min. The quality of the food was fresh and authentic, and service was excellent. The cashier was friendly, attentive and helpful. Highly recommend for lunch/ dinner. I like that they remember previous customers and acknowledge their return. If you dine in you get chips. You can make anything a combo with beans and rice for 2.00 more. Ambiance was cute and clean. They're going around wiping tables quickly after guests leave. I ordered 3 Taquitos and turned it into a combo and my daughter ordered the shrimp quesadilla. All of it was delicious! This place was great! The service was incredible, the patio was really nice, the chairs are metal but they're nice and wide so if you have big hips, you will still be comfortable. I ordered the small carne asada fries and they were a whole plate, I took most of them home for my kids. The salsa bar was really tasty, I tried all of them and their salsa verde was my favorite but all of them were really good! My friend's burrito could have easily fed 3 people.
