I'm glad I found this hidden gem! The Breakfast Place is a small, but nice and clean restaurant with a variety of flavorful options that are reasonably priced. As with any restaurant I try for the first time, I like to sample a few items to access the overall quality of the food and this lovely breakfast restaurant did not disappoint.
I ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits to start. It came out in a bowl, which I'm definitely not used to, but I liked it, because the gravy stayed hot. It was served over 2 biscuits cut in half (enough for 2-3 people), and they use turkey sausage instead of pork sausage in their gravy. This is a plus because a lot of restaurants lack turkey options. This dish was a little spicy for my taste, but it was so good, I didn't mind. The only down sides are; the biscuits aren't homemade, and they don't offer a half order. However, they do offer the sausage gravy as a side.
Next, I ordered The Jive Turkey, an omelette filled with turkey sausage, peppers, onions, and cheese. I added diced tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach also. It came with a side of home fries, which I got loaded (peppers, onions, and cheese), and toast. The portion was huge and the presentation was nice. My only gripe was that it was too spicy, I don't know if it's the turkey sausage they use, or if it's the seasoning they use, but I couldn't endure anymore spice. I added a waffle to my meal (only $2); it was decent, but I prefer my waffles fluffier.
I also ordered the shrimp and grits, which came with toast as well (white or wheat). Everything was fresh and they used jumbo shrimp, which I like, instead of those little popcorn shrimp, however, the grits lacked flavor and could have been creamier and I believe they used curry seasoning in the dish, which I wasn't a fan. I added what was stated on the menu as 1 pancake for $1.90. It was actually 2 pancakes; I mean these prices are better than fast food restaurants! The pancakes were good and cooked just right. I only wish they had maple syrup as an option. A friend of mine happened to come in for the first time and order a breakfast sandwich (turkey sausage, egg, and cheese on a croissant), and he enjoyed it throughly.
They offer a variety of bottled drinks, and coffee with flavored creams. Many won't care, but I definitely appreciate their dinnerware, most places comparable to this place serve their food on those cheesy white plates that always look kind of gross!
The best part of my visit was the customer service. Brittany was an absolute doll, and so sweet and attentive! She made sure our needs were met without being over bearing; she deserves a promotion or a raise at the very least! I will definitely be back to try some other menu items, and next time I'll take pics. read more
