I have been going to Thai Valley Grill for many years. This family owned restaurant serves fresh and flavourful authentic Thai dishes at a reasonable price. On this particular visit, I ordered the Galangal Cashew Chicken curry and coconut rice to go. When I arrived to pick up my order, I was happily greeted by the staff. Great place to go for sure! If I don't get in, I won't know it will surprise me. Lol Foods are all good! But the coconut rice which i didn't take all food photos. The coconut rice at the really first bite, me and my friend didn't realize that was coconut rice. Can't really taste coconut flavour. We thought it was just sticky rice. Oh my gosh how I had a good experience here recently with my toddler. Not only was the food delicious but they have a great bathroom for the kid (lots of space and the kid could almost reach the taps even!). The staff were great and got the kid a kid-friendly water cup. Food was ready pretty quickly and was delicious: coconut rice, pad thai with beef, lemongrass chicken stirfry, dessert, fruit juice, tea... it was a lovely meal and the staff were very attentive and helpful. I know I had been here previously with other adults but I was honestly impressed with my visit here with a kid. I mean the kid had previously wanted to visit a different restaurant but found that other place too dark so this became the next option and it was lovely with good lighting, ample space between tables and good service. With great parking, good proximity to the library and transit, this location was well worth a visit again after many years. First time here. Well first time in Edmonton. It's a small place in the middle of no where next to the EPL but the food is good. The spicy level is just right for me, a spice enthusiast. It might be a little spicy for some folks. It's really quaint. Small on the inside but they have enough tables for a big party. People clearly know about it. Thai Valley Grill is one of those typical, unassuming Edmonton restaurants scattered in random spots over the city. From the outside, it's quite unassuming and unnoticeable as the shades block everything from view. If you're looking for it, it's located in a tiny strip mall beside the Whitemud Crossing EPL branch, Pho Anh Vietnamese Cuisine and Yokozuna is right around the corner. We decided to check out TVG for dinner on a Saturday evening. The place was surprisingly busy but we made a reservation for 7 people so we were good to go. The place is family run and all of the staff are very sweet, patient and friendly. I think it's a culture thing as it brought me back to my time of traveling in Thailand and encountering so many genuinely friendly people. The menu has lots of options to choose from (around 60 choices) but I found their dishes to be much more pricier than other Thai restaurants in town. For example, the curries range from $17 to $20 each so something to be aware of if you're saving dem dollah bills. It's not like they're the only Thai place on the south side either - heck, Thai Orchid is only a couple streets away. - Thai iced tea ($3.75) - refreshing and light, I don't think you can ever go wrong with ordering a thai iced tea to start your meal off. - 2x Peak gai tod (#4) ($12.95) - deep fried Thai style chicken wings with crispy basil, kaffir lime leaves sauté in a sweet and sour chili sauce. These had a nice crunchy exterior and came out piping hot. Don't burn your tongue! - Tom kha factong (#9) ($11.95 large) - Thai coconut pumpkin soup. Creamy coconut soup with kabosha squash, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves. I think this is the first time I've tried pumpkin in a Thai dish. It was interesting to try but I can't say I was the biggest fan. - Geang ped supparodt with chicken (#22) ($17.95) - red curry pineapple in coconut cream with pineapple chunks, red and green sweet peppers. We found this curry to be a bit too sweet for our liking. - Pad thai with tofu (#41) ($15.95) - stir-fried rice noodle in a tamarind sauce with egg, tofu, bean sprout, scallion, topped with peanut and cilantro. The paid thai was decent but nothing pops into my mind that sets it apart from others in town. It was a good portion though. - Pud kee maow with seafood (#45) ($17.95) - stir-fried thick fresh noodles (aka. spicy drunken noodle) with spicy basil sauce, broccoli, red and green pepper, onion and scallion. Again, another big portion and I was actually impressed by the amount of seafood given. Didn't find the dish very spicy though. - Plaa (#48) ($19.95) - a whole fish and you choose the accompanying sauce you want to go with it. We opted for the sweet and sour sauce. The fish was tender and had a good amount of onion, red/yellow peppers and a couple other vegetables scattered over top. A nice change from our typical Thai dishes that we order. - Coconut rice (#55) ($6.95 large) - fluffy, delicious coconut rice. A large order was a good enough portion for all of us. Overall, we enjoyed our meal but we found most of the dishes to be overly sweet for our taste buds. Truthfully, with the higher price point and solid ratings, I was expecting more. It's in no ways bad but it's not on my must go back to eat again list. Thai Valley Grill falls somewhere in the middle of the pack. read more

Working in this area I decided to give this place a shot. I had tried the place next door and wasn't too impressed. I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't too bad at all. I ordered the pad thai. Visually they gave the presentation some thought. Taste wise; I prefer my pad Thai with more heat. It tasted more sweet than spicy. Portions were okay, but I felt it was a bit overpriced. My mom and I came here for lunch the other day. I think we'd been here years before for supper. The lunch menu here is pretty small, I think there were maybe 10 dishes to try, like Pad Thai, and what I had Kao Pad, which is like fried rice, kind of like Chinese fried rice. The dish itself was pretty good. It had rice, egg, chicken, some peppers and it wasn't very spicy (I know some Thai dishes can be a bit hot). I did find the dish a bit salty, but it wasn't pad. My mom got the Pad Thai and seemed to enjoy it. The lunch menu prices are pretty decent, about $12-$15 a dish, and the portion sizes were pretty big, but not huge. Our waiter was friendly, but really tried to convince me to try another dish (a noodle one, and I can't remember what it was called). I'm sure it would have been good, but I was in a rice kinda mood. Also the server didn't give us the right amount of change back when we paid, so we had to get that settled. The service was alright, but not worth tipping 50% of the bill. There isn't anything bad about Thai Valley Grill, but I've had better Thai food at other places in Edmonton. If you're on the southside and looking for Thai food though, this isn't a bad option. read more

Grade B+ / A- Tucked away in SW Edmonton, the Thai Valley Grill is a great choice for good wholesome, great value authentic Thai food. During this occasion's order, we requested for spicy red thai curry with small squares of tofu, papaya salad, chicken (curried) skewers, Drunken Noodles, and coconut rice to complement the curry. We then ate and reminded ourselves this is eating establishment may be my "thai away from Home".... Going forward here with the rest of the dishes noted. The curry was spot on delicious and flavourful/spicy. Great job done here. The Drunken Noodles with beef is dish recommended which is a more savoury version of pad thai with bulgogi / teriyaki style beef slices interspersed with vegetables like broccoli. Fabulous dish choice if you want to veer away from the sweeter pad thai dishes, sweetened with tamarind etc. The opening appetizer of papaya salad is again savoury and good. If u want something more substantial then go with their glass noodle salad (my goto in all thai restaurants and the one dish I test across other thai establishments). But you have to enjoy good doses of fish sauce which takes a few rounds getting used over time. Service was great. Waiters are attentive and polite. We were able to get a seating for two in less than 30 minutes by calling ahead on a weekend of post Valentines Day (which fell on a weekday). The place is quaint and small so tables during a weekend dinner excursion may be tough to come by. So phone ahead for a table especially if it will be a group of people. We had a variety of the usual items I like: salad rolls, pad Thai, Penang curry, cashew chicken and we tried a new item in our group, a spinach curry dish. Pricing varies depending on your meat selection in each dish. I thought the items varied in quality - the pad Thai was one of the oddest versions I've seen and tasted more like a Chinese noodle stir fry than pad Thai... Totally disappointed by this one. Salad rolls and cashew chicken were pretty average. I did like their spinach dish and the Penang curry - both were nicely flavored and the fresh bed of spinach in the former dish was quite unique. Came to give this place a try one afternoon. Ordered the chicken padthai. It was ok. Nothing special. It was almost too sweet. Very little chicken, mainly tofu. The portion was so small for $17. I was satisfied when I went here but I didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary. All of the food here has nothing special going on for it. Every dish taste like it does at every other place in the city, they don't have anything that sets it apart. The service at Thai Valley Grill was pretty slow and I don't think the food was worth the wait. You could easily go somewhere else. This is Edmonton's top Thai restaurant. It so happens to have the best authentic classic Thai. My brother lived in Thailand for over 7 years, and discovered this restaurant when it was located on 108 st. it since relocated to the south side, well worth the drive. First time trying this place and was not impressed. the pad thai was cooked to death, the noodles were mushy, the tofu was petrified, the sauce was a weird consistency, zero veggies,/beans sprouts/anything, paid for chicken and there was hardly any in the dish. it came with lemon instead of lime, and no peanuts. read more

A group of us went there for lunch. With 9 people, there were no complaints. The Red Curry Chicken as excellent as was the Curried Beef and Cashew Chicken. Outstanding food. Great proportions; but painfully expensive. The Pad Thai, beef short ribs, and green curried chicken are to die for. However, regular visits can create major PTSD on your wallet. Ways to minimize the blow to your credit card would be to make your own rice as accompaniments to the entres. However, the coconut rice is irrestistable. read more

This place is located in a strip mall off 106 street in south Edmonton. Under new management. Interior is average. Not a big place. Staff were very attentive and sincere. Prices a little above average. The prawn curry had fresh prawns and the fat noodles were good. They put shrimp in the chicken curry for some reason...the shrimp was pre cooked. The broccoli in the curries was precooked. Overall not bad. Other people liked their non curry meals. They do serve authentic beers if you are into that. read more

I have been to Thai Valley Grill many times, and it is always the same. Never are we greeted with a smile. The lady owner is never happy, which is frustrating. We dined there Thurs evening, and the same old game, no eye contact, just pointed to our reserved table. In fact the next person who came into the restaurant sat for more than 5 minutes before being acknowledged, then the next couple decided to take a few steps toward the kitchen before loudly saying "hello?!" Suffice to say the service is brutal. The food is the saving grace, we like it. It is very consistent and flavorful, and not the "same old same old" you find other places. All in all it's worth the visit, just be prepared for bad service. read more

We're regulars at this place. A friend recommended it to us a few years ago and we love it. It's true we've become a little predictable in that they know our order without showing us the menu, but when you really enjoy something, it's hard to want to try something else. We particularly enjoy the Panang (peanut red curry) the Pud Medt Mamuang Himmapaan (Cashew Chicken) and the Moo Yang. Ordered take out from Thai Valley Grill tonight. The food is very flavorful with a reasonable level of spice but I would probably appreciate a bit more heat. My favorite dishes are green curry chicken, Penang curry prawns, spicy beef salad, cashew chicken, beef with chili and basil and Thai stuffed chicken wings. I have always been pleased with the food but the prices are high. Most dishes are $17-$19. If you want a selection of food, dinner for two costs $60 without drinks. On the other hand the dishes are relatively large and normally you will head home with leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. read more

We walked in early on a Friday evening without a reservation, and the place was hopping. We waited about 20 minutes for a table and that was time well spent! The food is delicious, the service pleasant and efficient - managing all 32 patrons well. This is a tiny restaurant in a strip mall, but it is a real gem. I'll definitely be back. read more

We have made reservations to eat in but more often get take out. The food has always tasted great.

The service is off the charts, they're really quick on filling up your water and periodically checking to make sure everything is tasting well. It's been awhile since I've gone somewhere that had this great of services. The only down side that kept me from giving it an full five star is that I wish the food was a bit more spicy, the food was still amazing but it would have been nice if it was a bit more spicer as I felt some of the dishes we got was a bit to sweet. But in all truth we will be coming back to this Thai place ! read more
