    Perfect for lunch

Great little place with friendly people that's perfect for a quick lunch. The tea was amazing and we both loved our food choices.

Found this little gem 2 yrs ago. Used to go to the library just next to it. Family owned restaurant and authentic thai chef. I must say their curry was the best I've ever had. You can choose from green, yellow, red curry with your choice of chicken, pork, beef or seafood! Another favourite is their Pad Thai! I love it! Definitely must order! Proportion was enough and price is average.

Thai Valley Grill is one of those typical, unassuming Edmonton restaurants scattered in random spots over the city. From the outside, it's quite unassuming and unnoticeable as the shades block everything from view. If you're looking for it, it's located in a tiny strip mall beside the Whitemud Crossing EPL branch, Pho Anh Vietnamese Cuisine and Yokozuna is right around the corner. We decided to check out TVG for dinner on a Saturday evening. The place was surprisingly busy but we made a reservation for 7 people so we were good to go. The place is family run and all of the staff are very sweet, patient and friendly. I think it's a culture thing as it brought me back to my time of traveling in Thailand and encountering so many genuinely friendly people. The menu has lots of options to choose from (around 60 choices) but I found their dishes to be much more pricier than other Thai restaurants in town. For example, the curries range from $17 to $20 each so something to be aware of if you're saving dem dollah bills. It's not like they're the only Thai place on the south side either - heck, Thai Orchid is only a couple streets away. - Thai iced tea ($3.75) - refreshing and light, I don't think you can ever go wrong with ordering a thai iced tea to start your meal off. - 2x Peak gai tod (#4) ($12.95) - deep fried Thai style chicken wings with crispy basil, kaffir lime leaves sauté in a sweet and sour chili sauce. These had a nice crunchy exterior and came out piping hot. Don't burn your tongue! - Tom kha factong (#9) ($11.95 large) - Thai coconut pumpkin soup. Creamy coconut soup with kabosha squash, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves. I think this is the first time I've tried pumpkin in a Thai dish. It was interesting to try but I can't say I was the biggest fan. - Geang ped supparodt with chicken (#22) ($17.95) - red curry pineapple in coconut cream with pineapple chunks, red and green sweet peppers. We found this curry to be a bit too sweet for our liking. - Pad thai with tofu (#41) ($15.95) - stir-fried rice noodle in a tamarind sauce with egg, tofu, bean sprout, scallion, topped with peanut and cilantro. The paid thai was decent but nothing pops into my mind that sets it apart from others in town. It was a good portion though. - Pud kee maow with seafood (#45) ($17.95) - stir-fried thick fresh noodles (aka. spicy drunken noodle) with spicy basil sauce, broccoli, red and green pepper, onion and scallion. Again, another big portion and I was actually impressed by the amount of seafood given. Didn't find the dish very spicy though. - Plaa (#48) ($19.95) - a whole fish and you choose the accompanying sauce you want to go with it. We opted for the sweet and sour sauce. The fish was tender and had a good amount of onion, red/yellow peppers and a couple other vegetables scattered over top. A nice change from our typical Thai dishes that we order. - Coconut rice (#55) ($6.95 large) - fluffy, delicious coconut rice. A large order was a good enough portion for all of us. Overall, we enjoyed our meal but we found most of the dishes to be overly sweet for our taste buds. Truthfully, with the higher price point and solid ratings, I was expecting more. It's in no ways bad but it's not on my must go back to eat again list. Thai Valley Grill falls somewhere in the middle of the pack.

    Pad thai

Working in this area I decided to give this place a shot. I had tried the place next door and wasn't too impressed. I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't too bad at all. I ordered the pad thai. Visually they gave the presentation some thought. Taste wise; I prefer my pad Thai with more heat. It tasted more sweet than spicy. Portions were okay, but I felt it was a bit overpriced. Due to price to portion quantity it's a mid range rating.

    Hella tasty. Good portion sizes

It's also generally quiet enough to have a nice conversation, if you're a talker like me. The service was quick and friendly, and they were very good at reccomending dishes! We found this particularly helpful for choosing what meat/protein to put in our meals, and we all agreed that they knew what was best. As for the food, it was the most absolutely wonderful and authentic Thai I have ever had. Every dish was flavourful, fairly priced, and came in a huge portion! We have never gotten a single bad thing there (and we experiment often), and we have never left without takeout containers full to the brim. The leftovers are always amazing, too. I could go on and on about how much I love this restaurant, truly. What a lovely place to dine in St Albert that I wish I had discovered so much sooner! If you're interested in what to try, my favourites are the Pad Thai with chicken, or the Pad See Eiw with chicken or tofu. I'm not a beef lover, but they make it quite well there I will say. The curries are quite good but some of them get fairly spicy, at least for me. The peanut curry is definitely my favourite! As for appetizers, they have these excellent deep-fried crab and cream cheese dumplings that I can never get enough of! Be aware though, there are lots of peanuts used in recipes, so be careful if you have an allergy.

Tried this place twice about a month apart, the food is great but there's inconsistent portions and service can a bit slow as it's a mom & pop restaurant. Seating arrangements are ok but can definitely could use a deep clean/upgrade - old time hole in the wall look, feel & vibe. During our latest visit, the restaurant opened up a few minutes late as owners were running a bit late. Service was slower as there was only one person attending 6+ tables that came in about the same time. The food tasted great but again was inconsistent with portions & plating. We both ordered the same Pad Thai Tom yum at the same time & one plate completely was missing mushrooms & lacked bean sprouts while the other had an abundance. The rice curry dishes are good but could use a much bigger portion of rice.

Service was great, very attentive crew. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, no gaudy or cheesy decor. Small , quaint restaurant (I think seating for about 40-ish). We got there shortly before 2pm, was seated right away. It looks like they close at 230 (Sunday) and then reopen at 4 for dinner service. The server did come around before 2pm to ask if there's anything else that we want to order before they shut the kitchen. We appreciated that. Highly recommend them. Their broth was good too - we tried the satay & tom yum and both were flavourful. They've been open under the same management for 11+ years! Covid has been tough - they closed completely when dine in was shut down and are just starting to rebuild business (I don't think they do take out but I'm not 100%). It was completely dead when we were there, minus one other table - and they still kept filling the food with fresh items. They kind of fall under the radar, maybe because they're not as flashy as other places? But they are yummy with super nice people - if you're considering hotpot, it's worth checking out!
