Oh, so that was the owner who served us! The guy was super cool and friendly and greeted me as if he knew me because 2 other people in my party were already seated and I was about 20 minutes later than them, so when I walked into the restaurant, he said "So you're the imaginary friend!" without me having to explain anything. He was very warm and inviting and also acted as our waiter the whole night, so I had no idea he was also the owner. Other than the great service, the decor was warm and relaxing, and I had a great meal even though I was dining with two people I had never met before. I credit the decor and the atmosphere for putting us all at ease and making that possible. And the food was great too! I had the Tom Yum Soup and it was nice and creamy and full of flavor, and I tried someone else's beef dish which was great, and the chicken dish was ok. I was dining with a woman from China and she gushed about the rice. As soon as it was put on the table she said she could smell how wonderful it was, and explained that she's been travelling for the last six months outside of China, and this is the first time she's had "proper" rice since she left home. I met up with a colleague here last night for dinner. We started with some sort of appetizer platter, with fried fish cakes, fried shrimp, and chicken saté. The fish cakes were lukewarm, the fried shrimp were way overcooked, and the saté tasted the same as any other place in Amsterdam. 2 stars I got the pad thai with duck as my main, and it was excellent! I wasn't expecting much after the inconsistent appetizer but this was one of the best pad thais I've had. Recommended. 4.5 stars Service was OK. Worth a visit! Was visiting Amsterdam and stumbled across this restaurant by pure chance. I am from Las Vegas and have partaken Thai food across the globe. Had the Thai fried rice and the Mussaman beef for dinner, absolutely phenomenal taste, cooked to perfection, I doubt if these two items could be cooked any better. Despite this being a very busy Friday night, the service was top notch. Hats off to the cooks and staff. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Food was good, service not so much. Refused to give us tap water and made us buy a $6 bottle of water for 4 of us which did not go far. Waiter had an attitude because we were not buying drinks. Not cool. Also, my sister left her prescription sunglasses which were quite expensive. When we returned to ask if they found them, they did take her name and number. read more

We live around the corner and have enjoyed take-out from here a number of times over the last few months. The food isn't anything special, your run-of-the-mill standard thai, but it's pretty solid and with a lot of dishes, including vegetarian options for a large number of them. However, the other night after a lovely massage for our anniversary at Sala Thai Massage down the street (which is great!), we were craving some thai food and decided to eat in at Thai Tiger for a change. After a group of guys pushed in front of us to get seated before we did, one of the staff finally noticed us and gave us a pretty terrible table by the bar where servers were constantly walking past (it was pretty busy for a Sunday, but there were other options). I know we are two small women and we were casually dressed, but I expect a little more respect when I'm going to spend money in your restaurant. But, still we were excited for dinner and hardly noticed as we looked over the menu to decide. The server finally came over and asked us if we wanted to order drinks. We don't drink alcohol very often (and never soda) and we had just had a massage (plus it was a Sunday night) so we asked for water. He replied "sparkling or still" and I replied "just tap water, please." He responded very rudely and said, "we don't serve tap water here unless you order a drink, then I can give you tap water, so what do you want to order to drink?" I said, "well, we don't want to order drinks..." at which point he walked away! We sat there for about five minutes, shocked by how rude he was and also perplexed because we've lived in Amsterdam for a year and a half and in that time only a handful of touristy places have ever refused us tap water. We were going to order food. It's a restaurant. I get they're trying to make money, but their food is on the more expensive side for the neighborhood and frankly it's not a fancy restaurant but a neighborhood joint with no interesting beer or wine choices. Listen guys, tap water in Amsterdam is cheap and some of the best in the world quality wise. I just can't understand why business owners think it benefits them to create a crappy experience for their customers. In a tourist neighborhood, I get that you aren't trying to get repeat customers. But in Indischebuurt?! We walked right out of there and I'm not sure anyone even noticed. Took our business 10 minutes away to Boi Boi by Dappermarkt, which in our opinion has much fresher and better food anyway. Plus, a fantastic local and international craft beer selection. And, free tap water even if you don't order a drink! Our bill was probably 10-20 euros less for better food and I didn't have to pay for crappy bottled water that tastes worse than the water from the tap and pollutes our world with plastic trash. Thai Tiger, you've lost a regular customer over a glass of water. You'd have to give me something like 65 glasses before it would even cost you one cent. I get that it's a business, but some business decisions have bigger implications. Instead of making 35 euros off our food and 5 euros off of drinks, you ended up making nothing. read more

Best thai of Amsterdam. No question! They make the best curry dishes and everything else really. It tastes like I was in Thailand. I am drooling for a curry dish right now as I write this review. I was so thrilled when my search of best thai ended. Since then I come here every month with my boyfriend (we would come every week if we had the money!) We take out sometimes too. Excellent Thai Food. We had Som Tom, veggie spring rolls, chicken with vegetables and oyster sauce, Pad Thai with chicken and one with tofu, beef with green beans and peppers, and yellow curry with chicken and potatoes. Every dish was excellent, even the Pad Thai was very favorable which is unusual as this is a bland, Americanized dish. The server was very friendly and spoke excellent English, patiently worked with the kids for their order. Restaurant had candles on the table and nice ambience. Great place for Thai! read more

This place was recommended to me so my experience might just be an isolated incident. The restaurant looks quite nice and our waitress was very sweet. The problem was that they're understaffed and that ordering took a long time. I asked for the vegan options and was told that I could have anything on the menu made vegan. Of course I was really happy to hear this. After we had already gotten our drinks I was told that the soups couldn't be made vegan so I ordered a curry instead. The waitress came back later to tell me that I couldn't have any of the curries either. In the end there was only one dish on the menu, namely the mixed vegetables, I could have. I could already tell that this would have been one of my last choices. I was really excited to hear that I had a choice between tofu and tempeh. When my food finally came it wasn't great, but then my preference does go to soups and curries. The two vegan dishes came at the same time, but the third non-vegan dish didn't. After a while we asked the waitress about it to make sure she hadn't forgotten it, and indeed the order hadn't gone through and the dish didn't come until we were all finished eating. I did hear it tasted great. Also ordering some more beers and some soy sauce took a long time and the food was certainly not as spicy as I had asked for. So my experience wasn't great because if I had known that there was only the one dish I could have I would have gone somewhere else before ordering the drinks. Food was excellent. A bit more oily than expected but perhaps such is the style of thai food. Best parts, however, were the atmosphere, beer selection and owner. Owner (shaved head dutchman) was extremely nice and accommodating and took time out of his night to research clubs and bars for us to go to. The atmosphere is great because not only is there a warm, thai vibe, but the owner's adorable toddler walks around the restaurant and is hilarious. Highly recommend this place. read more

Obviously once you have been to Thailand, not every Thai restaurant will satisfy your expectations. This place however did satisfy all I was looking for in Thai food, but oh man the service was so poor! We were welcomed and sat at a table where still the dirty dishes of the formal guests were present. After around ten minutes not being asked for anything not given the menus and still the table with the remainings of previous guests, I stood up to ask the very first person I could find, who was standing behind the bar, who assured me someone would come to our table promptly. So they did and we got our menus with a clean table now. But again after another ten minutes on a not fully crowded night, I asked the guy that had passed our table several times without giving us attention to take our order. Then the food followed pretty fast which tasted great. The spicy coconot soup was delicious and so was the green curry as main. But overall the lack of attention of the staffmembers that night was quite obvious, which is really a pitty. If it wasn't for the delicious food I'd rate this place with less stars. I will be going back to this place in the near future. Hopefully the hospitality will be improved by then. read more
