    Coconut chicken soup
    Nikole G.

We were trying to warm up after a cold walking tour, so we came here for some soup. I got the coconut chicken- Tom Ka Gai- that's usually my go to. It was really coconutty and sweet. No spice whatsoever. A bit of a disappointment. It was hot though, so it warmed me up! Won't go back though.

For whatever reason, Amsterdam seems to be home to many of the best Thai restaurants on the planet. We're always looking for some new places to try, and were close to Billy Thai's one night, so...in we went! We ordered a few things to split: Homemade spring rolls: These were really good and fresh. Tom yam Kai soup: We usually like to get a coconut milk soup of some type, and we opted for this one with chicken and lemongrass. It was absolutely delicious! Perfectly seasoned and just the right amount of lemongrass, which can be overwhelming. Kaeng daeng: We went for a red curry with beef, which we were told was the spicier of their curries. It was great, too, although not as spicy as we would have liked. To be fair, we like REALLY spicy curry, which can be tough to get. The good news? They gave us spices to add, and we did! We then proceeded to breathe fire for the rest of the night. Pad Thai: We were absolutely feeling this when we went, and they gave us a TON of decent Pad Thai. Not the best Pad Thai we've had, but absolutely good and tasty. Super friendly people, too! Would come back, no question.

We tried the chicken pad Thai + sweet and sour chicken. Also had the spring rolls. Insanely good! Friendly staff, everything is fresh, not filled with tourists, highly recommended.

Worth the walk away from Amsterdam central! Chicken satay with peanut sauce was top notch. Panang curry hit the spot!

I love this place. As soon as you come in, the smell instantly catches you. The food is delicious and the service is great.

This was our first meal in Amsterdam and I was blown away by the flavors. We just flew in and started exploring the area and came upon this place. It was cold outside and as soon as we opened the door, it was warm and smelled SO good, we had to eat there. The sauces were on point and the portions were perfect. Of course the Heineken is better in Amsterdam than in America so we had a few. The yellow curry was my favorite. The staff was friendly and amused by all of our "mmmmmm" and "ooohhhh" sounds. They are fast and no nonsense. After spending a few minutes there, we realized a lot of locals were eating there, so we knew we had picked a good place. We struck up a conversation with a Dutch couple next to us who confirmed this was the place to get great Thai food. Not a touristy or overrated place. The prices were fair as well. Highly recommended!

    My favorites!

I love eating at Billy Thais. The food is great but it's the people who work there who really make it fun! Learn a few Thai words before you go and you'll have them laughing all night!

My boyfriend eating spicy basil chicken. Very clean and fresh ingredients, great flavors, pretty hot.

Real Thai food, just like my favorites in California. The ingredients are fresh and clean and delicious. The service fast and friendly. We stopped in after a late visit to the Van Gogh museum. We skipped all the busy tourist spots and stopped here to eat with the locals in a cozy little basement in a quiet neighborhood. Perfect way to end a long day of train travel, check in and city walking. Quiet, delicious, nourishing and real. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want a real, satisfying meal in a comfortable setting.

Fair to good service but I have had much better red curry many other places. Cocktail and spring rolls were good.

Often times there is a line leading outside to get a table due to the popularity of Bird Thais. The service is friendly and prompt. I've tried a variety of dishes on the menu but of course the classic Pad Thai is one of my top choices. Food is fresh and tasty. This time I tried the Isaan Menu which was a nice collection of spare rib appetizer, Tom Yam Kai soup, and a spicy beef salad. I really enjoyed the flavors of this dish. It is a very busy restaurant but there's just enough space to enjoy your meal without feeling like you are on top of the next table. Bird Thais is a very popular restaurant for a good reason.

The entry way may look narrow but it's a surprise they have considerably large dining area, for both small and big groups. Nice decor and seating arrangement by the way! Unfortunately, I personally didn't like most of the food we ordered. Not sure, but I've tried similar cuisine places where the food tasted better (even popular ones like pad thai and sticky rice). May still be good for you to try, there's a view of the canal on the back part and windows are cracked open. That's the bonus to see during day time.

Our first time visited this restaurant and the overall experience was amazing! The quality of their food was excellent as in the flavor, authentic taste, temperature control and fresh ingredients. Their stir fried crispy pork belly with Kai lan was super good. We could not stop eating while waiting for our masamam curry to be served. The pork belly was roasted with smoky flavor and was really crispy blended well into the brown sauce with some little spicy chili flavor. It was just an awesome dish and goes well with white rice. Their masamam curry was rich and creamy with coconut . The beef was tender, the potatoes was soft and well cooked just at the right time management . With some peanuts in the curry made the entire dish super delicious! We enjoyed their food a lot!. Their service was great and staff was attentive to the customers' request. The moment you walked into this restaurant you know you made the right choice for Thai cuisine. Highly recommended for you to have a try if you are visiting Amsterdam city center. We were walking towards another restaurant during a rainy afternoon and suddenly we passed by this hidden gem that looked super cozy and also the food looked perfect for the occasion, by that I mean steaming hot. The food came out fast, steaming hot, generous portions. The chicken curry had an addictive ingredient bc it didn't matter that it was spicy I couldn't stop eating it! The vegetables were perfectly tender and tasty. The meat was juicy and cut into perfect bite chunks. Im not exaggerating when I say I had the most delicious chicken curry I've ever had in my life. My husband had the beef with garlic and white pepper which is onions. Also incredibly good. Both dishes came with a side of rice. At the end we were stuffed and super happy!
