After a late workout, we were hungry and committed the faux pas of trying to find a place to eat in Amsterdam without a reservation. I had often passed Rakang and had always wanted to try it. It's a great location, just close enough to Negen Stratjes but outside of the too-touristy area. Rakang had space for us and also a very gezellig atmosphere- warm lighting, quirky and fun decor. (Check out the cheeky lamp, in the photo! haha!) Everyone was super nice and our server was humorous and attentive. The duck curry was delicious, and there are fun cocktails to choose from as well. I'll be back.

The food was amazing and the service was so friendly. Great Mai Thais and neighborhood ambience. Coconut crème brûlée is wonderful. All around a great experience.

After spending a long afternoon in Jordaan neighborhood of Amsterdam, we were looking for a good restaurant for our dinner. My husband wanted something tasty and a little spicy. We came across Rakang Thai Restaurant. This appears to be a family owned restaurant only open for dinner. It was quite busy and we didn't have reservations. The young lady told us to wait and she thought she could seat us in 10 minutes. Within 2 minutes, they had two tables to choose from. The restaurant is very decorative, and the tables are a bit tight as is the custom here, but it was very comfortable. We decided to just have soft drinks on this evening, and to start with Poh Pia or chicken spring rolls, they came three to an order, perfect for the two of us. The spring rolls were well-filled, hot and crispy. The plum sauce was nicely spiced, and so we felt confident we had made a good decision stopping here. We selected Neua Ka-praw (stir-fried sliced beef with Thai basil leaves, chilli, garlic, onions and yardlong beans) and Pad Thai Kai (pad Thai with chicken) to share. The Neua Ka-praw was served with white rice and was simply delicious. The beef was so tender and the dish was at just the right level of spiciness. The Thai basil leaves were so fragrant in the dish, but weren't overwhelming. The dish was a nice blend of all the spices. The yardlong green beans, were fresh, tender and provided a great crunch. We enjoyed this dish very much. The Pad Thai was reliable, tasty and the chicken was tender, cooked to perfection. If you have a need for a bit of spice while wandering the canals and streets of the Jordaan neighborhood of Amsterdam, this place is a hit. Give it a try!

We got recommendation for this restaurant but was disappointed with food. The flavors were missing, not a good option for vegetarians.....Pad Thai was atleast okay!

Tiny but mighty! Some of the best Thai food we've ever had. The curry was rich and thick and had the depth of flavor you expect from a great curry. The pad thai was not as flavorful, but was decent.

Got table for six. Staff was super nice and very attentive to our order. Waitress Bo was very nice. Food is authentic and served well with timing of apps and drinks.

A small hole in a wall joint that serves very tasty but tiny portions of thai food. While the manager/owner appears to be very friendly, the rest of the staff seems to be very unhappy serving customers. Its definitely service without a smile!! Its too bad, i would definitely come back for the taste but the serving size and dour attitude of the waitresses definitely a big turn off......

Often times there is a line leading outside to get a table due to the popularity of Bird Thais. The service is friendly and prompt. I've tried a variety of dishes on the menu but of course the classic Pad Thai is one of my top choices. Food is fresh and tasty. This time I tried the Isaan Menu which was a nice collection of spare rib appetizer, Tom Yam Kai soup, and a spicy beef salad. I really enjoyed the flavors of this dish. It is a very busy restaurant but there's just enough space to enjoy your meal without feeling like you are on top of the next table. Bird Thais is a very popular restaurant for a good reason.

The entry way may look narrow but it's a surprise they have considerably large dining area, for both small and big groups. Nice decor and seating arrangement by the way! Unfortunately, I personally didn't like most of the food we ordered. Not sure, but I've tried similar cuisine places where the food tasted better (even popular ones like pad thai and sticky rice). May still be good for you to try, there's a view of the canal on the back part and windows are cracked open. That's the bonus to see during day time.

Our first time visited this restaurant and the overall experience was amazing! The quality of their food was excellent as in the flavor, authentic taste, temperature control and fresh ingredients. Their stir fried crispy pork belly with Kai lan was super good. We could not stop eating while waiting for our masamam curry to be served. The pork belly was roasted with smoky flavor and was really crispy blended well into the brown sauce with some little spicy chili flavor. It was just an awesome dish and goes well with white rice. Their masamam curry was rich and creamy with coconut . The beef was tender, the potatoes was soft and well cooked just at the right time management . With some peanuts in the curry made the entire dish super delicious! We enjoyed their food a lot!. Their service was great and staff was attentive to the customers' request.
