Stopped here due to yelp reviews while on a road trip. It did not disappoint! I ordered spicy fried rice and my husband the pineapple fried rice. Both were delicious made with very fresh ingredients. Couldn't have been happier with our food or the amazing, friendly service! read more

This place is always good. The produce is always fresh, which is especially important because I am addicted to the papaya salad. Seriously, the best salad ever. But everything else is great too. Very accommodating to me (a vegan) . read more

I've been coming here for years, plus 10 years. The owner is always so welcoming. I placed a catering order I was so pleased by the pricing and amount of food. They made sure it was ready in time. It was so delicious my family really enjoyed it. For a small family gathering I really recommend the catering it's worth it . read more

The chicken satay here is DELICIOUS, so flavorful and juicy. However that is where the highs ended for me. The Pad Thai was overly sweet. I get that Pad Thai has to have some sweetness, however this was borderline dessert at this point. I could not believe the sweetness to this dish, the noodles were also over cooked. Additionally, I visited on a weekday night, and although there was only one other customer there the service was really slow it was also not attentive, despite the fact that my water glass was empty. Would not return here anytime soon. read more

They have the best customer service of any Thai place! They always treat me so nicely and even recognize me after a couple times coming in! They always make sure I have all the extra seasonings and sauces! They have really good spring rolls and the pad Thai is good! They will make it realllly spicy if you ask for it! I crave it all the time!! read more

This place is probably my favorite thai restaurant in Merced. It is well hidden so they do not get many traffic or people. I believe many people are not aware of this place due to their location. This is really a hidden gem in Merced. Their thai food is the best you'll get in Merced. This is a mom and pop shop. They use homemade ingredients with a very balance mixture of spices. They do have lunch specials and I do come here for lunch more often now. I love their garlic chicken. Strong on the garlic but you still can taste the chicken. Their pad thai is on the more saucy and heavy favor end. Most of their food is on the strong favored side so if you like it bland tasting, you probably will not like the food here. The service is amazing. Very friendly. Family owned. Very humble. I do recommend the pad thai, yellow curry, or garlic chicken. I have yet to try the rest of the menu but it is hard to venture out your comfort zone once you find a dish that hits the spot. read more

Always amazing food. Been going here for almost 10 years!! I love the garlic pepper chicken & the pad thai!

Thai Star is a bit of a hole in the wall, it came as a recommendation from a close friend as I spend my day getting some hospital work done. Walking in, Christina did a reasonable job greeting me but was quite busy diligently keeping everything spotless. Can't take points off for hard work when there were all of 3 customers when I walked in. The atmosphere is chosen with delicate care, the personal style of someone who clearly knows what they're doing. Thai Tea was recommended, Thai Coffee if you want to stay up much later. I went with the tea. I asked for the Pad Prik, recommendation of the chef - Wan I believe, exactly as the chef would have it. The visual presentation is quite photogenic, certainly room for individuals and couples and small groups for their fun. I believe there are 11 tables that can seat about 4 each, but they are not bolted to the floor so this place has plenty of room for a party. Chicken was tender, without being too soft. Green beans cooked until they were not squeaky - a personal pet peeve of mine the chef intuitively avoided. Green Peppers sauteed to a pleasant crispness Eggplant respectably cooked and distributed amont the dish The rice was steamed to perfection, and was presented with room for mixing things up. The entire dish sat in a mildly spicy sauce I don't know what Thai Home Cooking tastes like since I'm not Thai, but the food here makes me quite comfortable! I don't doubt that it is also quite healthy, likely densely packed with antioxidants and all that jazz. My hat is off with this performance! read more

Thai Star - Pad Pik and White Rice as well as the way they do white rice. - Thai Near Me - Merced, California

It was my first time trying Thai Star. The food was good but the orange chicken was TOO soft and I expected it to be crunchy. Idk if they usually have it like that or it just became soggy since it was take out. But I was a little disappointed. However, overall, the food was good. 4/5 stars read more

The service and staff are great. The two ladies in there are really helpful and attentive. VERY accommodating to dietary restrictions and amazingly truthful. The food was okay, but it may have been what I ordered. I'm definitely willing to go back and try a new dish. My only complaint isn't even about the restaurant itself: since the restaurant is so close to a pet center (two doors down), it kind of smells like animals. Other than that, everything was good. I had a nice experience. read more

There are many different things that caught my eye. The service is mediocre at best. No water, not even offered. For what you got, the prices were pretty high. My wanton soup had partially raw dough in it. Mixture of vegetables provided wasn't appealing; had to go ask for soy sauce or any other condiments, and to pay 4.00 for a glass of iced tea is way too much. Am not going to dinner there ever again. read more

Great curries and other dishes for a good price considering the large portions. Their homemade chili sauce is tasty too.

Great prices for solid Thai food with an accurate spice level. Service was good if not especially friendly. Nice and clean.

I ordered vegeterian soup & fried rice. Good food & good service.very good place for Thai food.

Ate here for a quick lunch and got sick, spent the night throwing up, wasnt expecting any of it, fokd was ok, like any other thai place, but afew hours later, realozed i wont be going back read more

THE best restaurant in Merced. I come to town about every other month to visit my boyfriend, and Thai Star is the only restaurant we go to when I visit. Unlike many restaurants in the city, Thai Star tastes very authentic and genuinely is like a home cooked meal. The lady who always seats us (who I presume is the owner?) is always very nice and welcoming. Very reasonable prices, and has easily become one of my favorite Thai restaurants ever :) read more

Awesome food!! Very clean every time we order - everything is carefully wrapped and packaged- and everything is so amazing!!!

Really enjoy the food from here! Lots of options, lots of flavor. I really enjoy their butternut curry. They don't skimp on food, not even the mango sticky rice. So good! read more

Tried the beef and noodles soup.. Pho... amazing. Pot stickers were off the chain. Definitely a hidden gem. The cook has the best suggestions. read more

Disappointed in the chicken pho. I ordered one to-go. It was very small in comparison to other Thai spots here in Merced. There were hardly any noodles, which is pretty much what all pho is. There were really no vegetables either except a tiny sprig of basil. Most other places here give enough noodles and veggies to make about 2 bowls out of one order. Sadly I won't be back. read more

My favorite Thai in town. The Thai crazy noodles are so good. Very accommodating to vegetarians as well!

The papaya salad was pretty good, but the tofu spring rolls...not even sure what they were. Just plain weird. I'm not sure if it was some type of rice paper or tapioca wrap but you couldn't even pick it up, had to eat it with a fork because it falls apart. Some pieces weren't even wrapped all the way around so the insides were just exposed. Not bad tasting, just weird. read more

Hella good!!! Also very open and willing to make any of their dishes vegan! Christina was excellent

Rarely do I have a complaint about having Thai food, Pad Thai, Pad Woon Sen, Curry, Fried Rice, YUM. But yeah anytime I am in the mood for Thai, Thai Star is my go to. Only once have I had a bad experience but that was just because the food wasn't prep the same way the many times I've had it but not a big concern. read more

I love this local Thai spot. Always a great meal good price everything tastes fresh. Try their curries you will be happy you did.

Literally one of the best place to eat in Merced. Me and my wife are coming here for past 4 years. Our favorite dishes are red curry fried rice, pineapple fried rice, pangang, butternut squash curry. Best Thai food in town, and also the cheapest! read more

Customer service was a delight and the red curry was full of healthy vegetables and solid!

Great customer service, although I ordered through grubhub. I ordered a bowl of pho and sweet sticky rice with mango to my elderly mom who lives in Merced. The restaurant is on top of everything and communicates with me promptly that they were out of mangos and we were able to substitute the fruit with a Jack fruit. They were able to put a personal to my mother as well. Thank you, I will order again from you! read more

Decided to try Thai today for the first time, my mom and I were the only ones in the small nicely decorated dining area. The owner was very nice and suggested dishes for our first taste of Thai. I got Pad Brik with chicken and it had red curry and I was skeptical I wasn't going to like it but honestly it was spicy and delicious. I def will be back to try other dishes but overall I'm happy my first time didn't scare me away from Thai food. Great customer service Decent prices Nice decor & good food solid 5 stars in my book read more

Nice family owned business. Christina who is the host, cashier, waitress, and table busser made the restaurant feel comfortable and inviting to eat in. We went during lunch and our food came out amazing with Thai flavors that is presentable and satisfying. They are vegan and vegetarian friendly. Thank you to the cooks and Christina. We will definitely be back if we are in the Merced area. read more

We are staying in Merced for business and really wanted Thai food for dinner. They are closed on Sundays, so we opted to go Monday. It was quiet and clean up on entering the restaurant. We did have to ask for water, but it came promptly. There are lots of choices on the menu, most of your typical Thai food staples and some more unique options. I ordered the butternut squash curry with chicken and my husband had the Thai crazy noodles. Both of which were very good and huge portions. We had enough to eat that night and enough to make another dinner. Prices were very reasonable, service was quick and friendly and we really enjoyed the food. We have eaten at Thai restaurants in 4 states, many in california, this ranks in the top 10. Not the best I've eaten, but certainly up there with the really good ones. Would definitely eat here again if in the area. read more

Thai Star - Butternut squash curry & Thai crazy noodles - Thai Near Me - Merced, California

Think intimate but not a lot of privacy, casual yet somewhat classy-- this place works well for a business lunch, date, solo dining, and for studying-while-eating. The decor is simple, and from the outside, it looks like a dingy diner, but it's not. The service is great-- the woman who generally serves is nice, attentive but not obtrusive. The food is AMAZING! Fresh-tasting, consistently good. I LOVE the green curry, the papaya salad, the egg rolls, the red curry, and sipping green tea. TIP: if you want leftovers, order from the dinner menu, not the lunch menu... Thai Star is a hidden gem: I've never had to wait for a seat (there are booths and tables), the service is always fairly prompt, and it's a mellow atmosphere. It is a bit quiet, but that's better than being subjected to karaoke in the background (not that there's anything wrong with karaoke- to each their own- i just don't like it while i'm eating, unless i'm in the mood for karaoke). read more
