    Red Curry with rice.

I used to be a regular here until I moved out of Kentucky more than 10 years ago. The place was always clean, and the guy who runs it always has something funny to say. I was driving by on the interstate and decided to stop for a meal. I basically asked them to pick something for me. They chose the mushroom soup and a curry dish for me. I also told them to go ahead and pick how hot it should be. It ended up being one of the best Thai meals I'd had in a while, and I probably eat Thai food at least monthly. I don't remember the exact names of the dishes but I did remember to take photos before devouring them. (Edit: My photos include the bill with the names of the dishes! Tom Yum Goong soup and Red Curry with Chicken.) The restaurant was still very clean and orderly as I remembered, and the proprietor came and talked to me for a few minutes while I was there. I noticed that their to-go orders really started picking up about a half an hour before they closed. I know I'll go back the next time I'm in town.

We stopped in while traveling to Lake Taylorsville for camping. Service was quick and prompt. The food was priced well and pretty tasty. Everything is served in plastic to-go containers (maybe that is more economical than washing dishes during the lunch rush). There were many local patrons - we chatted with a few over lunch. Nice to know it's a mainstay for people in the community. The server or owner seemed to know the clientele and so the atmosphere was very welcoming. I love Thai food - no complaints from me!

We visited Thai Smile for lunch upon the recommendation of a Thai employee at another shop in Frankfort. The restaurant was hidden from street view in a strip mall that had a lot of empty shops. Yet, there were many patrons going into Thai Smile for lunch or to pick up takeout orders. The restaurant had a take-out feel, even for sit-down diners. There was a relatively small dining area with small tables -- and a large rectangular table along the entrance way with iced tea canisters, napkins, and cutlery. We were greeted quickly, and offered a table. Our server, a bundle of energy, took our drink order quickly. I ordered a Thai Iced Tea ($3.95). We ordered two entrees -- my husband's go-to in Thai restaurants, Pad Thai with Chicken ($10) and Panang Curry with Chicken ($10). Seeing that the latter would be served only with peas and carrots, I also ordered a side dish of snow peas ($2). The waiter up-sold us with an order of the "best eggroll in Frankfort." ($2.50). You can choose the hotness level that you prefer, for your entrees, from 1- to 4-star. We ordered 2-star for both dishes. Our total bill came to $30.16, with tax but before tip. Interestingly, all appetizers on the menu are $2.50 and all entrees are $10.00. The food was delivered quickly and hot. All were served in plastic containers with lids that could also serve as take out containers. Overall, the food tasted good but was not exceptional. Our main comment is that the dishes lacked add-ins (especially vegetables). The Pad Thai was primarily noodles, with some chicken and a small number of fried tofu pieces and some peanut garnish. We don't recall having seen any bean sprouts or egg, as advertised. The soupy Panang curry in coconut milk was served with peas and carrots, as advertised, plus the add-on of snow peas that I had ordered extra. This was served with a bowl of white rice. The egg roll order was a single egg roll that was mainly filled with cabbage. (I can't say whether this is the best eggroll in Frankfort but it certainly wasn't the best that we've had). With respect to spiciness, 2-star has slightly more chili peppers than our preferences (even for my Indian-origin husband) but it wasn't too hot that we couldn't eat it. We need to remind ourselves that one-star is probably sufficient for future orders. We can always add more chilis but can't take them away. This restaurant is a good value. We were only able to finish about half of our food while in the restaurant so we had take-out meals to enjoy later. (We added more vegetables!) Also, our server was highly efficient. We note his friendly banter with the large group next to us. We would return to this restaurant if we were to return to Frankfort. Quantities.

Fast friendly service. They run a well-oiled machine there during lunch to take full advantage of the limited seating space. Overall, my food was good. Not noteworthy Thai but enjoyable and I recommend others give them a try. If in the area, I would return.

Thai Smile is our go-to when in Frankfort. The food is always good. Our son likes the frozen chicken fried rice we can get for home as well.

Ask the Community - Thai Smile

Drove by and did not see them, are they closed?

They are closed everyday between around 2:30-4:30. Closed for most if not all holidays. And they often go on 1-2 week vacations where the restaurant is closed during that time period.

Do you have outdoor seating? We are traveling with our dog. Thanks!

    They do not outdoor seating.

The dining room is set up to accommodate parties of two or four, all the way to large groups, with places for individuals at the bar. Table service is provided and our server was friendly. Hubby chose the Hot Brown with a side salad and I went for the liver and onions with mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, and gravy on the side for the livers. Hubby tries the Hot Brown at a lot of restaurants and said it was good. The liver was tender and tasty with the onions and gravy on the side, and the mashed potatoes and green beans were a good accompaniment. The portions were satisfying and neither of us had room for dessert. We were pleased with the experience, and with more items on the menu to try, we will be back.

We tried the chili dogs and fries, the fish sandwich special (which came with fries and slaw), and the chicken tenders appetizer. Everything came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The fish sandwich was perfectly fried -- crisp on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside. Even the chicken tenders were standout. Portions were generous, prices were very reasonable, and the service was top-notch from start to finish. The staff was friendly, attentive, and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Bonus points for the fun UK basketball décor -- fans of the Cats will feel right at home. If you're in the mood for traditional fried food done well in a laid-back setting with excellent service, this place is absolutely worth a visit. We visit often!

It's time to write an update for this restaurant and the take out food that we buy. This is the…read moresecond time (out of the last two purchases, about six months apart) that our order has been filled incorrectly. So I'm taking off one star just for the disappointment that happens when you get home with something other than you are expecting. Last time our hot & sour soup order was "Happy Family Soup" which my husband couldn't eat at all because of the assortment of meats and fish. This time our order of Pork Lo Mein was filled with Pork Mei Fun. The rice noodles had ZERO SAUCE OR FLAVOR. if I'm intending on ordering Mei Fun I always order Singapore Mei Fun with the delicious curry seasoning. The second star is removed because the Hot & Sour soup was beyond HOT! I really like spicey food as does my husband but this soup deadened my taste buds towards food eaten at a separate meal on a separate day. It was SO HOT that the broth of the soup was an orangey red. Every spoonful had at least three or four visible chunks of red pepper. The bottom of the bowl was a collection of ground black pepper, white pepper, and chunks of red pepper skins. The first night we ate the soup it was HOT but tolerable because it was something we hadn't eaten for a while. The second night neither one of us wanted to finish the bowl because it was just TOO HOT! The third star taken off is for the quality of meat used in the General Tso's Chicken and the Mongolian Beef. The chicken was large, hard, stringy pieces of chicken that you could neither cut with a steak knife or chew. The sauce was obviously made by their cook that likes heat. It was orange not brown because of the number of red peppers. The whole large order only had two pieces total of broccoli. As for the Mongolian Beef it was thick chewy chunks of beef like what should have been used as stew meat so it would become tender. Once again it was unchewable and not worth struggling with a sharp knife. There was little sauce or onions with the Mongolian beef so it was a bust! My husband would like me to take off a fourth star because what we planned would be a third night of dinners is going in the garbage. We are dumping one quart of hot & sour soup, 2/3 an order of Mongolian Beef, 2/3 of an order of General Tso's Chicken, 2/3 of the Mei Fun that we had hoped would be our Pork Lo Mein, and three small containers of rice. WHAT A WASTE! That's money down the drain. I on the other hand am giving the star because the Egg Foo Yung on the first night was delicious. I'm being generous giving this restaurant two stars because we maybe didn't like the food but at least we didn't get sick like some reviewers have written in their reviews. WE WILL NOT BE BACK FOR AT LEAST A YEAR AND DEFINITELY WILL READ CURRENT YELP REVIEWS BEFORE WE RETURN !
