Green Thai coconut curry with shrimp and Thai tea.

Chef T is awesome. This food is awesome. I highly recommend the green coconut curry, it's so good. Gotta go spice level seven. The portions are big I only have for lunch. It has the right amount of rice to curry. Everything's good highly recommend this place. The Thai tea really hit the spot, it's creamy, but not too sweet and you can really taste the tea flavor.

Best Pad Thai hands down! The flavor is so fresh. My husband and I eased our way into the spice levels based off their recommendations! We are both now at a Thai Level 8 and Thai Level 10!! Once they add in the Thai peppers the flavor just gets better and better. Generous portion size for a reasonable price! Me and my husband are frequent customers and they know our order! Very friendly! Definitely check it out, you won't regret it!

The shack is located outside of NEX...entrance serving freshly made Thai dishes made to order. There are seats outdoors or dine in the food court upstairs with an extended covered outdoor seating many are not aware of. My favorite drink to go their original Thai coffee freshly made with guava and basil seeds. They also have other signature drinks all Chef T original cold beverages that are great thirst quencher. I highly recommend trying their outstanding Thai menu options for take outs or eat at the NEX food court! They're closed on Sunday's and closes early. The food court is open daily until 7:00-8:00 pm...

I went there on a Saturday when all of the food options in the upstairs food court didn't feel appetizing to me. I remembered that there were several options downstairs, so I went to check it out. I decided to order from the Thai Shack, where I realized that they had the general Thai food in addition to the ice cream rolls and numerous desserts that I thought they were only known for. I discovered that I was wrong and they have full meals for really decent prices! Thai curry for $10? Wow! I was attended to by a very nice older woman, who I realized after the fact was the owner after looking at a photo with their contact info. I ordered the Surf and Turf and she walked me through spice levels since I'm not familiar with Thai spiciness. I went with 5 since that's what she recommended. I wish I took a picture of my order, but I was so *hangry* that I ate it quickly. The quality was the best out of all the options at the NEX. The spiciness was just right and very delicious. I wish I knew this option beforehand, but now that I know, I'll definitely be coming back. If you're craving Thai (or any Asian food) at NEX (which is sorely lacking local/Asian options) and don't want to pay $20 for a plate at I Love Country Café upstairs, go downstairs to the Thai Shack by Chef T and get yourself some Tom Yum, Thai Curry, or Pad Thai for great value. Definitely worth coming back to!

The steak Thai salad was super yummy, refreshing and light. I got level 5 spiciness and it was perfect for me - just a little kick.

Great small local business serving Thai food by NEX! Loved the atmosphere and welcomed customers by the employees. Their shack is so well decorated and complimented their kitchen setup. I ordered the Pad Thai and Mango Sparkling Soda. When picking up my order, they ensured me with confidence that their food is served with no MSG and fish sauce. Beautifully cooked, great portion and friendly staff. I would totally come back here to try their other authentic Thai selections and drinks. EVERYTHING IS FRESH MADE TO ORDER WITH FINE SELECTED INGREDIENTS. Would totally recommend folks who are in the area looking for some bomb Thai food!

When I was looking around for something around the NEX, I saw Thai Shack on yelp and it was rated really well. I love Thai food so I decided to try it with my friend. We love splitting things so that we can try more than one thing so we got a super size açaí bowl and chicken pad thai. It was so busy because it was lunch time and there were a lot of people ordering. We waited a bit for our food so once I saw that they had made our açaí, I went up to get it while we waited for our pad thai. We ended up eating the whole açaí before our pad thai was ready. It was so hot outside so it was the perfect thing to help us cool down. It's definitely not like the traditional açaí but the fruits were really good. The pad thai was finally ready and we ate it pretty quick. It's a very big portion. I'll definitely be getting the pad thai again or maybe try the curry.

Love this food! Takes me back to Thailand. My go-to is always the chicken pad thai (level 7 spice ) with a Thai coffee (forgot to take a pic ) Everything is made to order. So, be prepared to wait a little. You can also call ahead and place your order so it's ready when you get there or when you're done shopping at the NEX/commissary. Every time I go, they are so welcoming and friendly. Definitely recommend!

Hands down best Thai food I have had on the island. I am making this my new go to grab and go spot. Food is freshly prepared to order & no MSG or fish sauce used. Chef takes his time preparing each dish. It's worth the wait. Thai iced tea is excellent as it's real brewed Thai tea leaves & not the flavored powder mix other places use. If you want good healthy food done right check this place out. I love their Tom Yum soup & Surf & Turf noodle dish. I can't wait to try the other items on his menu.

The reviews had 4/5 stars, the pictures of the food looked pretty good so we decided to give this place a try. If you've tried authentic Thai food, this is no comparison. 2 stars for friendliness, but the food is not good and surely not worth the wait. We ordered the chicken satay, the veggie pad Thai and the air fried veggie rolls. Nearly $30...and it was just simply not worth the money. The chicken satays picture on the sign looked generously portioned but it was a piece of chicken chopped into cubes on top of some greens, with a scoop of mushy white rice. The chicken tasted fake, it was extremely soft..weird flavor and texture. The air fried veggie rolls had a funny taste..I'm not sure how to describe it..but almost like an old taste? It was 2 veggie rolls cut in half plus a half of one, and that was $5. Sauce was sweet, eh not very good either. The veggie pad Thai did not even taste like pad Thai. Sorry but it was not bussin.

If you're looking for authentic Lao food, this place definitely delivers. We ordered the Soop Noor Mai (bamboo shoot salad), Lao-style Som Tum, Beef Red Curry with jasmine rice, and Seen Haeng (beef jerky). The standout dish for me was the Soop Noor Mai. It was unlike anything I've had before, with an earthy, herbaceous flavor and plenty of texture from the shredded bamboo shoots, toasted rice powder, fresh herbs, and greens. Every bite had something different going on, making it both interesting and deeply satisfying. The Lao-style papaya salad was fresh, vibrant, and packed with bold flavors. The beef red curry was rich, creamy, and fragrant with tender beef that paired perfectly with the jasmine rice. The only dish that missed the mark for me was the Seen Haeng. While the flavor was good, the beef was cooked a little too long and ended up drier than I prefer. I personally like Lao beef jerky with a bit more tenderness and chew. Everything else was excellent, and the relaxing garden setting made the experience even better. If you're craving authentic Lao cuisine in Honolulu, Olay's is well worth a visit. I'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu.

I could see the servers were busy. The food came out in a reasonable time, and the appetizer sampler was great. I usually don't really like regular egg rolls but they were so tasty. Chicken wings are also my favorite. Calamari and summer rolls were okay. The entrees....pat thai and panag curry were good but nothing special. What was really dissappointing was we found a long piece of hair when we took the left over curry home in the container. I know these things happen but wish I noticed that at the restaurant ( I barely ate the curry at the restaurant as I got full so quickly). Paid $25 for it....rarely ate it and found a hair.... Generous portions of crispy pork (they pan fry it before), some meatballs, and fish balls. 9/10 Pork Pad Thai $17 - Same amazing crispy juicy pork. Noodles were incorrect/not typical. They use pho or the thin rice noodles for their pad thai. Despite that, the noodle texture was still good: chewy bouncy noodles that soaked up the sauce very well. My friend and I ordered the pad Thai with tofu, ginger chicken, chicken satay, and pork larb. The pad Thai was the best dish, but it was very tomatoey, which I did not expect. The chicken with ginger had very little chicken. It was mostly julienned vegetables, including celery which I do not care for. The chicken satay was kinda dry and most certainly needed the peanut sauce to make it palatable. The larb was very dry with very bland flavor, served on one lettuce leaf and a wedge of cabbage. How am I supposed to eat that? All of it was quite disappointing, especially for the price point. As I was eating this meal I remembered the Thai food truck at the end of Ward, where Fisherman's Pier used to be. Now THAT was some good Thai food. It's on the smaller side, but the tables are spaced comfortably enough that you don't feel cramped. The menu is also extensive, with just about every popular Thai dish you could think of. Service was one of the highlights. The staff was attentive, friendly, and quick throughout the meal. Our Thai tea arrived almost immediately. I'm talking within a minute of ordering. It's definitely on the stronger side with less milk than most Thai teas, allowing the tea flavor to really shine through. It leans a bit sweeter than average, but the sweetness was balanced, and you could genuinely taste the freshly steeped tea leaves. The Thai boat noodles are what this restaurant is known for, so they were a must-order. Since it was my first time trying boat noodles, I figured this was the best place to experience them. I can definitely see why they're a customer favorite and would recommend ordering them if it's your first visit. The beef pad see ew surprised me. It was sweeter than most versions I've had, but it really worked. The noodles were cooked perfectly with great texture. My only complaint was the beef. It was a bit chewy and didn't match the quality of the noodles. The seafood tom yum was the biggest letdown. The broth itself was flavorful, but the seafood selection felt like a frozen mix rather than fresh ingredients. The mussels were already removed from their shells, the squid was chewy, and the soup included canned mushrooms instead of fresh ones, along with fish cakes and fish balls. It lacked the freshness I was hoping for. Overall, I left feeling that the proteins were the weakest part of the meal. The flavors, service, and atmosphere were all enjoyable, but the quality of the meat and seafood didn't quite stand out. That said, it's still a solid Thai restaurant, especially considering the options in Hawaii. Would I come back? I'm on the fence, but probably not

It was getting a little late on a Sunday night... and by "late," I mean about 8:00 p.m.--which, for…read moreus old folks, is 10:30 p.m. in old people time. We couldn't decide what to eat until my wife finally said, "Let's go get Thai food at that place my sister and I tried about a month ago." I responded with a "K we go." I figured they were probably getting ready to close, but we lucked out, Siam Garden Café is now open until 10:00 p.m. on Sundays! Awwwwwriiite...!. Since it was later in the evening, there were only a few tables filled, so we were seated right away and had plenty of time to check out the menu. My wife already knew exactly what she wanted--the Thai Beef Salad. I had my eye on the Thai Fried Chicken, and we added an order of Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles). We requested it mild spicy--and definitely not Thai spicy, because we know better! There were a couple other things we wanted to try but we didn't want to overdo it with just the two of us. The food came out fast. First the Drunken Noodles, and wow... that was ono. The thick, chewy noodles reminded me a little of a chow/look fun, tossed in a a sauce with tender beef. Every bite was packed with flavor. Next came the Thai Beef Salad and the Thai Fried Chicken. The salad had that classic tangy dressing with vinegar and fish sauce that paired perfectly with the beef. If I had one small kine suggestion, it would be to add just a little more beef, but the flavors were on point. The fried chicken was cooked to crispy perfection--lightly seasoned so you could actually taste the chicken. Dipped into the Thai sweet chili sauce, you know the one, it was the perfect combination of crunchy, savory, and sweet. Even though we were pretty full, there was no way we were not going to order dessert. We shared the Mango Sticky Rice, which was the perfect sweet and tart ending to a great meal. Last but not least, one Thai iced coffee to go. Yeah it's late but wanted to stay up and binge watch a couple of episodes of a K-drama, don't judge. Overall, Siam Garden Café delivered. Great food, friendly service, quick turnaround, and now with later Sunday hours, it's an even better option when those late-night Thai cravings hit. We'll definitely be back to work our way through the rest of the menu.

After a recent visit to Siam Garden Cafe, I thought I would post a brief update/review:…read more I ventured to SGC with my mom, brother, and SIL last month for lunch (on a Saturday, no less). We arrived shortly before 11:30am, and thankfully we were seated immediately (in a booth!) as there was only 1 group dining (this would be the antithesis when we departed as the restaurant was packed after 12:00pm). We got settled in our booth and looked over the menu. Collectively, we ordered/shared: Spicy Eggplant Pad Thai with shrimp Papaya Salad Siam Jungle Curry with chicken Steamed Fish with Soy Sauce I honestly couldn't decide which dish was my favourite, as I thought they were all a generous portion and flavorful. My mom complimented the eggplant and steamed fish repeatedly, and while I also favoured the eggplant, I found myself gravitating to the curry throughout the meal. My SIL also liked the fish and eggplant, while my brother had many good things to say about the pad Thai. We did take some leftovers home, and as we packed up the food I wondered to myself why I hadn't returned to SGC sooner. SERVICE The staff friendly, patient, and very polite. BOTTOM LINE We will certainly be back.
