First time here since pre-Yelp days (2019), but in the mood for Thai food, so stopped in. Located in a strip mall w lots of parking, except for yesterday evening (Reggae concert in the park). Smallish dining area in the front, and quite full. I was torn between the ginger entree w rice and chicken, and the palace fried rice w chicken. I went w the recommendation of my server, and had the ginger. I also had my first bubble tea, which was unusual, but refreshing. Not a huge fan of it, but I would try it somewhere else for comparison purposes. The ginger w chicken was good, but it only gave a hint of that root's flavors; less than I was hoping for and expecting. The "brown sauce" was also a bit watery for me. There is an old saying, "Nothing Stays the Same. We have been coming to Thai Palace for lunch and occasionally dinner for more years than I wish to recall. It is now under new owners and after today, we have no plans to return. The dishes we loved all taste so different and no where near what we were used to eat. Truthfully, I would go there almost once a week... and the owners knew my entire family every time we walked in the door. As for the food, the Tom Yum soup was my absolute favorite, and the lunch specials were fantastic. UNFORTUNATELY, that all changed after they changed ownership and chefs. The prices went up, up, up, and the food quality went down, down, down. It didn't take many trips to find out it just wasn't the same place, and I know I'm not alone in that. Food was pretty good. My drunken noodle was sweet and savory and had a lot of vegetables to balance my diet lol. Everyone was happy w their dishes. It was quiet on a Tuesday so it was great for our book club setting and there was a lot of takeout activity that I saw while there. I've had Thai for lunch elsewhere and I paid X amount of money for litterally 1 layer of Drunken Noodles. That's one thing A LOT of Thai places do during lunch. They skimp you out on your main dish but give you spring rolls to make up for it. Here I paid the same X amount of money but I got a DINNER portion during the LUNCH wave. It came with spring rolls but wait there's more. SOUP. Quick run down of everything as I promised this would be quick: - Not the best Drunken Noodles ever, not bad just good and it's a lot. - Spring rolls were decent. - Had Chicken Coconut Soup and it was hot, spicy and flavorful. - Service was blah but can't beat the price. My absolute go-to spot for Thai in central CT. Nothing against any of the others but the food here is exceptional and authentic. Though it's not exactly close to where I live I have worked in the surrounding area for a few years and found this place through a co-worker, and another, and then another. Even at different employers I found that a lot of people working close to here know about this place and it's their go-to as well. So having eaten a great many lunches here over the years with co-workers and solo I've tried or at least seen a lot of the dishes on the menu and the freshness and quality is consistent across the board. Even though I don't work in the area anymore I make the trip out just for the food. The spring rolls are standard when you get the lunch menu cut can be ordered as an appetizer along with several Thai favorites. The soups are fantastic, the Tom Kha Gai from here has ruined Tom Kha Gai from all other places, the preparation is unique, spicy and addicting. While it's part of the lunch menu (choice of soup) I will add it to any order where it isn't included. My favorite dish on the menu has to be the Drunken Noodles with chicken but all the others I've had have been equally good. They can adjust spice on many dishes to whatever you like or prefer as they're all made fresh. While it's a small-ish restaurant in a strip mall it's got a fair amount of seating but what knocks it out of the park is the food. Five Stars! read more

We love this Thai restaurant! In general Thai is our favorite type of food when eating out and we have visited most if not all of the Thai restaurants within about 15 miles of Hartford I'm pretty sure. This one stands out to us as the best overall and it also happens to be one of the closest so that's good too. I will admit to being a curry fanatic so I always order a curry dish at any Thai place I visit. I've tried all the curry's at Thai Palace, red, yellow, green, panang and they are all excellent here. My wife usually gets pad thai and she loves it! Their curry dishes are very creamy and just the right hotness for me. Also in general I would say that all the dishes seem to be very generous in size so we always take enough home for another meal. Next time I go I will upload some pics because the dishes are presented very nicely and they are quite colorful too. A lot of variety in veggies in them. read more

Because I'm working extended hours seven days a week (Thank You Hurricane Sandy) I get home too late for us to go out to dinner, considering I have to be in early the next day. We decided that I would bring in take-out on my way home tonight, and since my return route brings me right through Bloomfield, I made a stop at Thai Palace. I rolled in about 7:30 and the place was jammin' crowded. Tables packed, lobby packed, take-out service crazy busy. I ordered 4 things for take-out - 2 appys and 2 entrees. The appys were Tom Kha Gai Soup ($3.75) and a Thai Salad ($3.25). The soup was out of this world fabulous- creamy coconut milk broth with excellent tender chicken strips and crisp veggies. The salad was a nice portion of lettuce, crisp pepper, cuke, and tomato with either a ginger or peanut dressing. The entrees were chicken pad thai ($10) and Goong Pad Pla Mouk ($15) - a very nice dish of shrimp, calamari rings, and veggies in a spicy black bean sauce. I ordered it with brown rice and it was excellent. As I read off my order to the hostess, she didn't look at me and didnt look at the take-out menu to see what I was attempting to order, She didn't seem real friendly and must not have liked the way I enunciated "Goong Pad Pla Mouk" because when she handed me my charge slip, it was about $15 less than what I was expecting- the reason of course was that she didnt include the Goong. So I had to order that again and ran a second charge slip for that dish. Kind of annoying, right? Well, she made up for it by offering me a takeout dish that someone decided not to pick up - an order of Thai Rice Noodle ($10) as a freebie. That was really nice of her - she changed a bad experience into a nice experience very quickly. So on a crowded Friday night, I ended up witnessing good customer service and ate take-out food that was excellent, And there are-plenty of leftovers for the weekend. Enjoyed a weekday lunch at This Palace with my Gluten Free daughter. I write a lot about GF to help promote awareness and share our findings along with the overall experience. Thai Palace is full versed in allergies, contents of their dishes and less known sauce ingredients. For weekday, the restaurant was bustling with diners. However, there was no lack of servers. We were seated in a comfortable booth and allowed time to review the menu. Lunch is served with a choice of soup or salad. We opted for the soup and an appetizer of vegetable spring rolls with a side of sweet and tangy pepper sauce. Our main dishes were fresh & piping hot. Mine a wide noodle, vegetables, chicken, and mango with a side of brown rice. Mel enjoyed, and I mean enjoyed, her favorite spicy squid over brown rice and vegetables. Gone Baby! This food is not Thai food. I don't know what it is. I ordered the papaya salad, Thai crispy pepper chicken, and sticky rice The papaya salad was not a papaya salad. It was a salad with papaya. It didn't taste the way papaya is supposed to taste. The sauce/dressing tasted like sugar lemon water. The very minimal amount of papaya was old and had definitely been stored for a while. I feel played. THOROUGHLY AND TREMEDOUSLY DISAPPOINTED. The sticky rice was old as well. It wasn't sticky anymore and had started turning that dark off-white color that rice turns when it starts to dry out. The Thai crispy pepper chicken was okay. It was just fried chicken cutlet with sesame seeds and crushed red pepper sprinkled on, and then some cilantro and crunchy stuff. The sauce on the side was okay. Just soy sauce, fish sauce, and sugar. Definitely not something I'd want to pay for. I'm not sure what I thought it would be though, so I'm not that disappointed about the chicken. read more

Fav place to get Thai food for many years. My go to dish Eggplant Loves Chicken. The drunken noodles is so flavorful. My friends & I meet there all the time for food. The owner is super friendly. This is one of my favorite regular haunts. The food is reasonably priced and one of the owners is almost always on premises . There bar does not do a lot of business in terms of bar flies, but otherwise the place is always hopping .. I would suggest reservations on Fridays and Saturdays. I am a fan of the Pad Thai and the beef satay is always well cooked and better than any other Thai restaurants in our area as they don't taste like thin pieces of teriyaki sticks coated in peanut butter. Concerned as a local favorite is under new ownership. Ordered the walnut shrimp, unfortunately overcooked, with pieces of raw onion and unripe mango. Appreciate coconut sauce packaged on the side to prevent soggy tempura batter, but unfortunately no cohesion. No toasting of the walnuts, disappointed in the execution. This was a popular item on previous owner menu, maybe they will need to fine tune. Coconut rice is tasty, also a little overdone and mushy but flavor is good. Will try again, but if not, Siam Corner in Windsor will be my go to. Drove to Bloomfield specifically for the walnut shrimp. Staff was friendly, restaurant appeared clean. read more

What a shame! I just got lunch there and it is nothing like the delicious food they used to make. I see that they are now under new owners, and boy, does it show. The dish I bought was absolutely ridiculous: rubbery shreds of chicken and things like pineapple chunks in it that were not even listed as an ingredient for this dish. I ordered from online, and they have not even updated their online menu with what is currently their menu. The Tom Yum Goong soup used to be delicious. The current version is just terrible. The only item that survived the change in ownership are the spring rolls. Sadly, I won't be going there again, and I can see from others' reviews I am not the only one. Years ago when I was a Yelp newbie in San Francisco, I rated a Long John Silvers in Modesto 5 stars. Folks were perplexed. My rationale was that it was fantastic for what it was supposed to be: a fast food place. For the same reason, I have to rate this place only one star. This place is so not Thai. We wanted introduce some new friends to Thai food and they live in the area. So they picked this place. I immediately worried when I asked the waiter to please make the basil dish with ground chicken. (The authentic basil chicken is made with ground meat. This way the flavor is incorporated into the meat. Often in the US folks think ground meats are of lesser quality. Therefore, the restaurants use sliced meat.) He could not make that and informed us that all the staff was Chinese. Well, the dish came out and was very good: for a Chinese dish. But not Thai. The flavor was not right. My larb gai was hot, not room temperature. It has jalapeños in it rather than the Thai peppers. The flavor was also totally off. Whereas I Inked the Chinese basil chicken, I did not like the Chinese larb. So if you want to have real Thai, go to Middletown to Thai gardens. read more

I want desperately to give Thai Palace at least four stars, but the half dozen or so times I've been, it's been a hit or miss -- sometimes at the same time! Happily many times it's been a hit, so Thai Palace is a solid 3-stars for me. When we've been there for dinner, the atmosphere (both times have been on weekends) is very busy, and oddly, the restaurant is very dark. I'm not sure why this bothers me, but I guess I like to see what I'm eating (and who I'm dining with). With the exception of one dish (more on this below), there is nothing particularly memorable about the food, except that, overall everything was tasty. I remember that for dinner, dishes were elaborately plated/served (i.e., pleasing to the eye, but again, nothing memorable for the palate). The majority of our visits have been lunch. Again, lunch time is very busy, which I believe due in part to their $8.50 lunch menu. I really enjoyed the dish called "Red Bull" and the chicken Pad Thai is also very good. It's not the best Pad Thai I've had, but it's not the worst, either. The chicken coconut soup is excellent, but it should be served a bit hotter (not in spice, but in temperature). The one dish I highly recommend is the mango salad which I don't believe they serve all the time.This is the one dish that I remember craving and thinking about over and over again. The food is never too spicy, but it's not "that" spicy to begin with; also, it's not the most authentic Thai restaurant I've been to in CT -- but what it lacks in authenticity, it does make up for in relatively good, quick service and tasty food. Perfect lunch spot when I am craving some Thai food. I wouldn't say the food is phenomenal but definitely worth the $8 for a meal, soup and two spring rolls. Today I shared drunken noodles and the panang curry with a friend. If you are looking for a little spice in your life, don't get these dishes or ask them to be super spicy. I would say this had the mildest of spice. My only complaint was that the service is sub par. The server literally spoke so quietly, I couldn't tell if he was asking me if I wanted another water or what type of rice I wanted with my dish. And if that's not enough a small plate of pineapple is brought out for desert. My companion warned the spicy shrimp soup might be too much for me so I opted for the chicken noodle soup instead. The broth was light, plenty of white meat chicken strips present along with fresh basil. The noodles were the glass variety, which are not my favorite. The spring rolls were light and crispy and the dipping sauce was sweet and satisfying. I had the pad see ew. This massive heap of noodles was flavored with onions, beef, egg and a rich brown Thai sauce with a hint of sweet. I've been to Thai Palace twice in the past few months. The first time I went l got the green beef curry. I went again yesterday and got the yellow chicken curry. I can't rave enough about how good the food was both times. I'm not a big fan of spicy food at all, but the curry is so good that I deal with the heat. They have rankings for the hotness of the curry (both dishes that I've gotten were 2 peppers out of 3) so if you really can't tolerate spicy food then you can still order something with one pepper next to it. The price of curry is about $10-12, which I find extremely reasonable. They give you a good amount of food and it tastes great. The rest of the menu is a bit more pricey; most things are between $14-20. My friend got the drunken noodles which looked good, but the portion size seemed small. The first time I went my mom got the red snapper for about $25, and it was absolutely delicious. My ideal rating would be 4.5 stars, but I'd rather give this place five stars as opposed to four. I've been to Thai Palace a couple of times for the lunch specials and I've never been disappointed. The lunch special runs from 11:30-3:30 Mon-Sat (except holidays). For $8.50 ($9.05 after tax) you get a choice of soup: Tom Yum Goog (spicy with shrimp), Chicken Coconut, Chicken noodle or if you order from the vegetarian side Vegetable Tofu; you get 2 spring rolls and a side of rice (with a non rice or noodle dish). There are lots of options to choose from for the lunch menu. This is not one of those places with 4 options on the lunch specials, there are over 20 here. From Green curry to pineapple fried rice to pad Thai they've covered all of their bases. The service is decent. My waitress was a bit on the cold side but there was always someone around in case I needed something. There's a cute little patio area outside too which is cool. But food wise I think it's a pretty decent Thai place. The lunch specials are a good value. You get soup and two spring rolls on top of your entree. They did up the price from like $8.25 to $8.75 but it's still a good value. I love all the curry dishes here; panag, green, yellow, etc. The pad Thai is good too. I haven't tried anything that wasn't good here yet. They offer vegetarian options as well. Lunch hours during the weekday are busy but not packed enough where you will have to wait to be seated. A lot of workers in the area seem to get takeout from Thai Palace. This is restaurant is directly responsible for my recent weight gain. I came with a friend one time for lunch and we were blown away with their lunch special. They'll give you a nice bowl of Tom Yum or coconut curry soup with actual content. They'll give you 2 mini spring rolls per guest. Then, they'll bring out the massive main dish. It's your own little mountain of delicious Thai goodness. When I first had their Pad Thai, I thought of trying out every single dish on their menu. I continued this personal challenge with their Drunken Noodle which also marked its premature end. What happened? I did not dislike the dish nor was I dissatisfied with the service or staff. I just could not move on from their Drunken Noodle. This pile of carbohydrate somehow managed to coalesce into a plate of flavorful gelatinous flat noodles that demands to be eaten. I am completely defenseless. The chop sticks move on their own and feed me against my better judgement until the little mountain disappears.
